1 SECTION I: GENERAL INFORMATION POSITION DESCRIPTION WILLMAR PUBLIC SCHOOLS Position Title: Community Education and Recreation Coordinator Immediate Supervisor s Position Title: WCER Director Job Summary: Department: Willmar Community Education & Recreation FLSA Status: Under the direction of the WCER Director, the Community Education and Recreation Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing adult/youth enrichment programs, activities and classes. SECTION II: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Plans, creates, promotes and implements youth enrichment programming in the areas of art, theatre, science or other after school, evening, weekend or summer enrichment activities. a) Promotes and informs the public regarding youth enrichment programming. b) Plans and makes arrangements for classrooms, gyms, transportation or other facilities needed for youth programs. c) Finds instructors and seeks additional resources in the community. d) Plans and makes arrangements for field trips. e) Makes sure programs and events have adequate participation, materials, and resources to make the program viable. Plans, creates, promotes and implements adult enrichment programming. a) Promotes and informs the public regarding adult enrichment programming. b) Plans and makes arrangements for classrooms, gyms, transportation or other facilities needed for adult programs. c) Finds instructors and seeks additional resources in the community. d) Makes sure programs and events have adequate participation, materials, and resources to make the program viable. Assists in recruiting, interviewing, training and supervising part time and casual employees as needed for the various programs. Lead the review and evaluation of programs in areas of responsibility. In conjunction with the Director maintains a fiscally sound budget in program areas of responsibility. Orchestrate the development and distribution of three district wide program offering publications. Develop and implement appropriate Youth Service/Youth Development opportunities within the community. Performs other duties of a comparable level or type, as required. a) Provides professional epertise and assistance to individuals, other district staff and the community concerning areas of epertise/knowledge. b) Attends training sessions and conferences. 2 SECTION III: WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT: Minimum education required to perform adequately in position could reasonably be attained only by completing the following: REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING (choose one) less than high school diploma High school diploma or GED. 1 year college 2 years college DEGREE INFORMATION: Type of degree: (B.S., M.A., etc.) Bachelor s Degree Major field of study or degree emphasis: Sports Management, Recreation, Leisure Services, Park and Recreation, Education or Related Field. 3 years college 4 years college 1st year graduate level Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job: 2nd year graduate level Doctorate level Fundamentals of public relations theories and techniques in promoting, advertising, and/or informing the public of programs, services, courses or other events/projects. Basic knowledge concerning the use of computers and related software applications and general business equipment. Knowledge of the issues, needs, problems and concepts of addressing and incorporating adult/youth enrichment and activities consistent with the district s curriculum. Knowledge of community resources and community organizations within the community. Knowledge of the theories, philosophy and approaches to youth enrichment and youth development programming, evaluation, and implementation. General knowledge of district administrative policies and procedures pertinent to the activities and programs of WCER. Required Work Eperience in Addition to Formal Education/Training: Prior eperience in working with adult/youth programming. LICENSE/ CERTIFICATION Identify licenses/certification required upon hiring: Valid MN Driver s License or evidence of equivalent mobility. ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE WORK Skilled in: Applying supervisory theories and practices in delegating, monitoring, evaluating and training contract and volunteer program personnel. Planning, implementing, coordinating and arranging for youth development, adult/youth enrichment activities and programs. Prioritizing, organizing and managing time and project activities. Applying public relation theories and techniques in promoting, advertising and informing the community of programs and services. Applying judgment and discretion in handling problems and issues in accordance with the Page 2

3 policies and procedures of the grant the department and district. Using computers and related software applications and general office equipment, e.g., copiers, facsimiles and phones. Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to echange or convey information and to receive work direction.
