1 Request for Information (RFI) For the Toronto Transit Commission s Internship Program RFI No. R03CB13236 OVERVIEW The Human Resources (HR) Department of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) has an on-going requirement to provide internship placements in various Departments within the TTC, including but not limited to: finance, procurement, human resources, engineering, etc. The internships are required to support the TTC s outreach initiatives (for foreign trained professionals, persons with disabilities and recent university/college graduates) as outlined in the TTC s diversity plan. The objective of hosting internship programs is to support a non-for-profit organization in conjunction with the TTC s diversity plan, to provide meaningful work experience, give interns valuable workplace experiences related to their field of study, and help them enter the labour force successfully. The TTC has utilized this initiative in the past and has placed numerous successful candidates/interns in various Departments/disciplines in the TTC i.e. Materials & Procurement, Customer Communications, Human Resources, etc. All selections are conditional upon satisfactory results of a criminal records search. Prior to the commencement of an internship, the candidate/intern(s) selected must undergo a criminal reference check. The candidates/interns are responsible for payment of and obtaining the criminal reference check. The candidates/interns are also responsible for providing the TTC with the results of the criminal reference check for successful candidates, that is, either a Police Check Clearance letter or a Summary of convictions. OBJECTIVES OF THIS RFI This RFI is being issued by the TTC to obtain information from interested companies regarding the availabilities of the services described above. In addition, the TTC wishes to review what types of alternative internship programs interested companies are able to offer that can meet TTC s diversity and outreach initiatives.

2 RESPONDING TO THIS RFI In order to respond to this RFI companies must complete Appendix A (attached) and provide, as an attachment thereto, information respecting the above Objectives of this RFI including, but not limited to, services the company can offer and recommend from the following perspectives: Description of your company s vision statement and value Description of your internship program Description of your intern candidate pool and its main sources Administration of TTC program Web-based tools/features Other value added While cost estimates are not part of this RFI, any suggestions or recommendations made should take into consideration the fact that the TTC is a public sector organization that is also respectful of the climate of fiscal restraint within which it operates. DEADLINE TO SUBMIT A RESPONSE Responses to this RFI, by , should be submitted no later than Friday, January 17, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. Toronto time. Does your company comply with all safety regulations and other rules as appropriate and shall be responsible for making all deductions required by law (i.e. CPP, UIC, Income Tax, Health Insurance, etc.)? 5. Is your internship program on a direct-hire basis? 8. Does your website allow for online intern job posting by the host company? 9. Is online candidate pre-screening available for both the Placement Assistant in the HR Department as well as the hiring Manager in the TTC s host Department (where the hired intern will be working)?

Does your website provide TTC s host Department and HR Placement Assistant online access to review, shortlist candidates, directly contact the candidate, set-up a face-to-face interview, up to hire the intern online? 11. Does your company offer flexible recruitment services including online hiring, payroll administration, access to online resources and other self-serve options? 12. Do you provide online access to various reports, by i.e. specified date ranges, new internship postings, active internship postings, new hires, direct hires, active interns and interns hired at host?
