This position was created because of the expansion of Micromine Africa. His main responsibilities include the following: Do mining resource evaluation Do mine design Do mine scheduling Do mine capital and operational costing Do mining risk assessment Assist with pre-feasibility and feasibility studies Assisted with the mining project assessment for major mining houses such as, BHP-Billiton and Randgold Resources Assist with marketing of in-house software Sasol Mining Planning Manager Timeframe July 1995 to April 2002 The Export Project, that resulted in the Export Business of Sasol Mining, started as a result of reserves that were not fit for the gasification Page 3

4 process, but had high CVs, and thus suitable for the utilities market. At the time, the Export Project implementation was complete, the coal market was severely depressed. It was decided to model the Export Business to enable management to determine what the drivers of the Export Business were and aid management in making decisions about the future of the Export Business. It was Mr van Vuuren s responsibility to model the Export Business and run various scenarios to determine which would be the best to follow. The business model was also used to schedule the reserve and deploy the colliery in such a way that the NPV would be maximised. As planning manager for the export business, he reported to the Mine Manager and the Plant Manager and was a member of the Export Business Management team. His accomplishments were: Used and coordinated consultants to model the export business Implemented a market driven planning system that included the mine, washing plant and export facility to optimise the export reserve and maximise NPV Successful implementation of the Sasol business planning cycle Successful implementation of zero-based budgeting Successful implementation of an ISO14001 program Successful implementation of a mine water management system to minimise the effect on the environment Sasol Mining Underground Manager Mining Services Timeframe July 1995 to April 2002 Twistdraai Colliery supplied coal to the Synthetic Fuels plant at Secunda. Mr van Vuuren s main responsibility was to manage the mining services department. This responsibility included a small production section, the managing and coordination of all the mining related projects and the services functions. In this capacity, he reported to the Mine Manager. Some of his accomplishments at Twistdraai were: Successful introduction of mechanised face drilling Successful implementation of diversity management in the mining services Successful development and implementation of a new safety program Coordination of the Mine planning, Survey, Geological and SHE functions AMCOAL Project Manager (New Denmark Colliery) Timeframe December 1991 to June 1995 New Denmark Colliery is an Eskom-tied colliery for the supply of coal to the Tutuka Power Station. This colliery uses longwalls as the main mining method with continuous miners to do the development for the longwall panels. At new Denmark Colliery, Philip was responsible for projects and planning and reported to the Mine Manager. He gained the following experience: Rock cutting with a Voest Alpine AM75 Implemented the concept of centralised transport services Assisted Consultants from Australia with Longwall roof support design for conditions unique to New Denmark Colliery Page 4
