2 1. Get the Right People to Start With Employing the wrong people will end up costing you money, eating into your profits, it is also a lot of time wasted that you can t get back again. Our tried & tested training and employability course weeds out the tyre kickers who will just give it a try. Trying to do it all yourself is a tiresome process when recruiting for one or two new people, it often ends up with the wrong people in your company who lack the essential Health & Safety competence. You can be assured that we have already done the back-breaking work in selecting and training the right people through our large class sizes to then hand pick the right lift mate to start with your firm. 2. Have a Partnership Model We don t work alone. Our trusted partner includes PEW Electrical Distributors, Apex Lifts, Lester Controls and Global Lift Equipment who all provide additional support, training and lift equipment. When a lift mates completes our course, they have our support. Over the years of running funded lift employability courses, we have found that lift mates having us to ask questions to and provide support to them, helps both the lift mate and the lift firm. It helps to break down barriers of communication and makes them feel that by working towards becoming a qualified lift engineer is a real possibility. Without a partnership model in place, most lift mates tend to leave their employment as it is just between them and you, they have nowhere else to go, no lift unions, no support, no guidance or helping hand. Often the lift mates will either go to one of your competitors, or take a job outside of the lift industry, in retail, security, or driving for example, and employers become frustrated with taking on new people just to repeat the whole training exercise again at extra cost.

4 5. Working Safely in An Engineering Environment (EOR202N) accredited course The EOR202N accredited course helps to reduce workplace accidents and incidents for themselves, other co-workers and members of the public who use lifts. Safe and competent access and egress to tops of lift cars and lift pits for both traction & hydraulic lift types and the dangers around lift machinery are all essential work operations for any type of lift works. Working safe while onsite is hazardous at the best of times and any lift personnel can seriously put the lift company in trouble with costly HSE investigations, downtime, near misses, damaging lift equipment - the list goes on. The lift industry recognises the EOR202N course as a foundation entry level requirement for people working on and around passenger and goods lifts. This safety course compliments with the code of practice for safe working on lifts BS Make Sure They Are Lift Engineer Safe Registered All our lift mates are registered on the National register so that they are able to prove their level of training to the Level 2 Lift Industry Standard 2426 certificate of validated achievement. How could you prove to your customer that your new and existing employees are safe, trained and competent at what they do? You can check registrations at any time by navigating to and click on CHECK AN ENGINEER, just follow the onscreen instructions. We operate the online lift engineer safe register and display each person s training record for the benefit of the lift owner. We are sometimes asked to audit the lift firm s paperwork and conduct onsite visits to inspect the lift equipment shortly after a routine service visit has been completed and report back.

5 7. Take Up the Right National Vocational Qualification At Training Centre Direct, all our lift mates get enrolled onto the NVQ level 2 programme which is ideal for a trainee lift engineer to assist in the large lift jobs where two pairs of hands are needed. We monitor this training and co-invest in the new person to help them stay longer in the position, so you have less money wasted by re-training a new employee. NVQ s have been around since the 1990 s and not all lift firms will invest in this training, particularly because of the cost and that sometimes the employee leaves their company once the certificate has been obtained. There are lots of NVQ s with even more pathways and individual units to choose from. NVQ s fall under the qualification and credit framework (QCF). The names of the qualifications in the QCF tell you 3 things, how difficult it is, how long it takes and what it s about. The level shows how difficult the qualification is, there are 9 levels in the QCF from entry level to level 8, the size or how long the qualification takes to complete, there is an award, a certificate or a diploma and the content is what it s all about. Whether it s a level 2 performing engineering operations, a diploma in engineering maintenance and installation, stair lifts, service lifts, equipment installation, lifting platforms to a level 3 qualification in engineering maintenance for lift servicing/repair or a qualification in installation and commissioning for traction/hydraulic lift installation, we have it all covered. +44 (0)
