1 Shift Leader Reports to D1 and Cream Production Manager Company Synlait Milk Ltd Date: June 2014 Location 1028 Heslerton Road, Dunsandel, Canterbury Purpose To ensure the operations shift team have all the tools and skills to process all milk into the range of products we have capability for, ready for packaging and export. To effectively plan and organize the plant operations over the shift to ensure good manufacturing practices, employee safety and product quality are maintained at all times.. To ensure (in conjunction with the Process Leader and D1 and Cream Production Manager) that the operations team has a solid training plan and performance feedback system in place for each Process Operator. Key Performance Areas Leadership Quality Make key decisions under pressure Control staff leave, covers and roster changes. Have a strong focus on getting ALL staff to meet required performance standards. Coaching of senior operators ready for a shift leader role Delegating tasks to operators who have displayed an interest in developing skills, have a training need, or have demonstrated ability to carry out the task Identifying skills gaps and planning training accordingly Communicate clearly to all members of the team and to ensure their understanding Lead the 8.30 am production meeting on a rotating basis Ensure that Quality will always be the #1 focus for the Synlait Site. CCP sign offs every shift is a key requirement. Responsibility on a weekly basis for the manufacture of correct amounts of product at lowest cost while meeting quality standards Accurate and timely completion of LOT folder, Inprocess performance, In/Out of specification Shift Leader PD June 2014 Page 1 of 6

2 Key Performance Areas Planning product, Yield Form and Team Leader list Ensuring daily cleaning rosters are completed and signed off Ensure the facility is cleaned to agreed standards Comply with and lead the change control process. Perform regulatory checks and audits as required Be the super user of M3 ERP system on your shift Solid time management across your shift Planning the cleaning of the plants to maximise equipment efficiency. Proactive planning in the areas of yield, milk management, lactose, ingredients and packing Monitor waste rates off each plant and improve where necessary Problem Solving Lead fault finding actives for your shift Be an active member on RCA activities. Be the super user of MEX for your shift. Planning, ordering and management of key plant consumables, e.g flexible socks, dryer nozzles etc Customer Focus Relationship Management Achieve customer requirements for product quality, specification and delivery. Attend customer audits and lead customer tours as required. Liaise with energy centre staff, quality staff, planning staff, maintenance staff and transport staff to ensure the smooth running of the facility Communicate effectively with shift colleagues and production management to ensure the long term goals and targets are met Communicate openly with other Shift Leaders to ensure smooth shift handover Compliance / Risk Management Comply with all relevant company policies and delegations Comply with all Quality Assurance / ISO system Shift Leader PD June 2014 Page 2 of 6

6 Qualifications: School Certificate or equivalent qualification A qualification in dairy processing, such as a Dairy Diploma is preferred Experience: Previous work experience in milk powder plant processes is critical Proven knowledge of Food Safety and HACCP systems Experience in and applied knowledge of industrial and personal safety behaviours Skills: Advanced problem solving and fault finding abilities Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills Proficient in computer packages ( MS Word and Excel ) Proven ability to lead and motivate a team Strong organisational and planning skills Ability to multi-task in a pressurised environment Health & Safety 1. All staff must be conscious of potential safety problems at all times 2. A Health and Safety Policy is in place within Synlait.
