1 EXCITING CAREER OPPORTUNITY DIRECTOR, DEVELOPMENT Canoe Kayak Canada Salary commensurate with experience. Canoe Kayak Canada is the national body for competitive paddling in Canada. We are a volunteer lead and staff driven organization made up of a community of paddling enthusiasts athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, staff and supporters from coast to coast. We are seeking a Director, Development to join our team. The Director, Development is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of domestic programs that support the effective achievement of the high performance vision and plans. The Director is responsible to take measures that are necessary in the daily operation of the development program within the bounds of approved policy and the annual operating budget for that program. Through a collaborative model, functions include leading the design, implementation and monitoring of CKC s customized Coach Education and Professional Development Program; leading the design, Implementation and monitoring of coach recruitment and retention strategies to increase quality coaching throughout member clubs across the country, in line with the Coach Development Model, lead the athlete development pathway program and to ensure effective partnership building with

Qualifications and Experience: Post-secondary degree in a discipline of sport science, coaching, physical education or related experience. Preferably a master s degree in a similar field complementary to sport. 3 years in a sport leadership role, managing people to achieve measurable outcomes. Experience with planning and evaluation processes. Strong Communication skills essential. Education background and curriculum design experience is a strong asset. Experience working successfully with sport scientists to use innovation and evidence to enhance programming and athlete improvement is a strong asset. Practical experience as a professional canoe-kayak coach is a strong asset. 3 JOB DESCRIPTION Director of Development A. General Description The Director of Development (DD) is responsible for overseeing the development and delivery of domestic programs that support the effective achievement of the high performance vision and plans with Olympic and other Organizational Disciplines. The Director of Development will work with the Technical Leadership Team to support high performance and domestic development objectives. This position is based at the national office in Ottawa, Ontario. B. Organizational Scope The Director of Development, in consultation with the CEO or Director of Finance, has sufficient authority to take measures that are necessary in the daily operation of the development program within the bounds of approved policy and the annual operating budget for that program. C. Reporting Structure The Director of Development reports to the Chief Technical Officer and collaborates with

4 the Technical Leadership Team comprised of the Chief Technical Officer (CTO), Head Coach (HC) and Director of Development (DD) to ensure coordination and collaboration of plans and activities. The Domestic Development Senior Manager, the NCCP/LTAD/Officials Coordinator and the Events Coordinator report directly to the Director of Development. D. Specific Responsibilities o Be the staff lead for the Long Term Athlete Development program and Podium Pathway/Gold Medal Profile project. For both, oversee the design and implementation and evaluation in partnership with the Domestic Development Senior Manager, CTO and Head Coach. o To actively work with Divisions, Provinces and Clubs to ensure strong partnership development and relations are developed and maintained. o Lead the design and oversee the implementation and monitoring of coach recruitment and retention strategies to increase quality coaching throughout member clubs across the country, in line with the Coach Development Model. Lead the design and management of the National Coaching Certification Program in partnership with the Coaching Association of Canada.

5 o Lead the design and oversee the implementation and monitoring of CKC s customized Coach Education and Professional Development Program for Senior National Team Coaches, Centre and Hub Coaches in collaboration with the Head Coach (Maybe identified club coaches only). o Engage with the Coaches Committee to ensure the voice of Coaches is reflected in CKC policy decisions. o Oversee the development and delivery of domestic events including National Championships, and Canada Cups o Oversee engagement and development of member clubs and disciplines o Oversee engagement and development of officials. o Oversee development staff. Develop performance targets and evaluate the staff; determine gaps and professional development needs. o In collaboration with the Technical Leadership Team and CEO, develop funding submissions to Sport Canada, Own the Podium and other potential funders are necessary.

6 o Manage the financial aspects of the development budget, in partnership with the CEO and Director of Finance o Other such duties as are assigned from time to time by the CEO E. Travel The Director of Development will be periodically required to travel throughout the year. The association has a compensatory time off policy to cover such travel necessity as outlined in CKC s Human Resources Manual.
