3 Traffic Records Assessments A Traffic Records Assessment is required for 405(c) grants Assessments are based on the Traffic Records Program Assessment Advisory, written by subject matter experts and State officials The Advisory describes an ideal traffic records system and provides guidance on the contents, capabilities, and data quality measurements The Advisory includes questions that examines the State s capabilities relative to the ideal system 3

11 Assessment Facilitator Manages the assessment process Assists State with preparations to ensure the best respondents are assigned to answer the assessment questions Provides State with technical assistance and training on STRAP and manages assessors and respondents access to STRAP Monitors assessment progress via STRAP Compiles the assessment final report and conducts a webinar report out to State 11

14 Assessors Rates each response according to how it matches the standards of evidence Synthesizes multiple responses to gain understanding of the State System Reviews additional information and re-rates responses 14

16 Preparing for an Assessment Schedule early to get the slot you want. Work with NHTSA s Assessment Facilitator. Keep Traffic Records information current in TRIPRS (strategic plan, TRCC information). Identify correct people to answer each question. Assign reasonable number of questions to each respondent. Identify and upload documents into STRAP. 16

17 After the Assessment Annual 405(c) requirement for States to report on how they have addressed each assessment recommendation. Update Strategic Plan to address assessment Recommendations Consider a NHTSA GO Team for targeted technical assistance or training 17
