POSITION DESCRIPTION CRISIS SUPPORT WORKER (WOMEN & FAMILIES) CORPS/CENTRE/DEPT: Homelessness Services Network DIVISION: Sydney East & Illawarra REPORTS TO: Manager - Women & Families DIRECT REPORTS: N/A POSITION PURPOSE & DESCRIPTION: The Sydney East and Illawarra Homelessness Services Network will work as one team with a person-centred, safe & coordinated approach to service delivery to ensure the best outcome for all who seek our assistance. The Support Worker (Women & Families) will enable clients to feel safe and supported by providing assistance with practical tasks and supporting their case plans in line with the mission and values of TSA. This role requires travel between two sites Surry Hills and Dulwich Hill. ARMY MISSION STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is an international movement and an evangelical branch of the Christian Church. 2 DUTIES Support Services To offer appropriate support and assistance to clients in a collaborative client focussed approach aimed at empowering and working with participants to effectively meet individual needs in line with client case plans. Duties include but not limited to maintaining an environment that provides an appropriate level of cleanliness and tidiness and to undertake other appropriate practical caring tasks which may include: cleaning and tidying residents rooms, making and changing beds, cleaning of exceptionally dirty areas, preparing drinks and meals, preparing soiled laundry for laundering etc. Undertake ad-hoc duties as requested by Coordinator, Manager &/or Director. EXPECTATIONS Client requests and requirements are dealt with promptly in a caring and supportive manner (with respect, honesty and dignity) in line with TSA mission. All administration (exit procedures, medication forms, case notes and handover) requirements are completed appropriately and in a timely manner. Client information, reports and data collection should be entered and recorded into the SAMIS program consistently and in accordance with the Network and SHS procedures and policies. Mandatory reporting processes are following in a timely manner in line with legislation All clients to be supported in accessing services and resources relevant to their needs and this information recorded as SAMIS data Evidence that client rights are upheld, interactions are respectful and free from discrimination. Cultural needs are respected and catered for as shown by interpreter usage and documentation provided in appropriate language relative to the client. Evidence of flexible, proactive and client-centred approach to support work. Evidence of working positively and effectively with others in the Network s multi-disciplinary team as well as external community services and related agencies to support client case plans. Evidence of working knowledge regarding the community services sector industry particularly women & families experiencing homelessness & family domestic violence. Works within the organisations quality and risk assessment systems and provision of services to ensure meeting centre is meeting all funding and legislative requirements. Positive feedback is received from clients, staff and other stakeholders about programs and services. TSA core values and behaviours demonstrated in all work related activities. Maintains a sound working knowledge of all relevant TSA policies and procedures relating to area of responsibility. Client service standards are met both internally and externally. 3 DUTIES Networking & Partnerships Acquire and maintain a good working knowledge of support options for women and families within TSA Network and external agencies and work collaboratively and professionally with other agencies. Team Support Participates in team activities, attends staff meetings when scheduled and demonstrates a supportive approach to other staff members which contributes to the overall team effectiveness. EXPECTATIONS Evidence of strong working relationships built and maintained with external stakeholders and partnerships, resulting in beneficial outcomes for clients and contributes to the good reputation of TSA. Evidence and number of formation of new partnerships and participation in networking meetings/forums. Evidence of client utilisation of linked external agencies/services. Positive feedback is received from external stakeholders about programs. Evidence of strong relationships with other team members, which assists in building a cohesive workplace. Demonstrates on a continual basis, a commitment to assisting and supporting colleagues in all workplace activities. Minimum of 80% attendance at all staff meetings. Page 3 of 5

4 ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS: DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS: An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support the values and ethos of The Salvation Army. Criminal History Check & Clear Working with Children Check Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV) in Community Services, Social Work or related discipline. Current NSW Driver s Licence. Current Senior First Aid & Mental Health First Aid Certificate. WHS knowledge of work health safety obligations and to practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy & procedures and legislation. Professional development required to maintain skills for the role. Experience in Trauma Informed Care approach. OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATON: Flexibility with work hours and location of work (Surry Hills and Dulwich Hill) to meet the operational requirements of the position. Willingness to undertake further training for professional development. SKILLS & BEHAVIOURS: Strong organisational and time management skills. Ability to work well under pressure. Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Strong problem solving, conflict resolution and evaluation skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. High level of interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with and advocate/negotiate for a range of internal and external clients. Demonstrated ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour. Demonstrated commitment to quality customer service and continuous improvement strategies. Energetic and flexible with a positive attitude. Ability to critically reflect on professional practice and attitudes. Solid level of computer literacy (MS Office, IBM Lotus Notes, SAMIS) EXPERIENCE: Minimum 2 years experience working in a community setting, particularly working with those experiencing homelessness, mental health issues, drug and/or alcohol addictions Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of the community services sector in NSW, with a specific emphasis on homelessness and family/domestic violence (including issues, trends, resources & services etc.). Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining collaborative relationships with key service providers. Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions. Page 4 of 5
