Context The Marketing Department contributes to Compassion UK s (CUK) strategic and operating success by managing Compassion UK s brand in the market place; and develops and maintains marketing strategies to meet agreed organisational outcomes. Job Purpose Work within the Marketing Department to implement the Marketing Strategy and deliver the Acquisition Targets for CUK. To build the name of Compassion amongst various target audiences, as well as obtain child sponsorships through a variety of marketing initiatives. Key Outcomes 1. Promote & Maintain CUK s Christian ethos and values; 2. A Marketing Presence team structured and developed to meet CUK s outcomes; 3. Implementation and delivery of the Marketing Presence team s strategy/targets; 4. Appropriate Marketing communications produced, distributed, evaluated and archived.

2 Core Responsibilities 1. Promote and Maintain CUK s Christian Ethos and Values Actively live and work in accordance with the Christian ethos and values of the organisation at all times, actively demonstrating the practical outworking of these values and taking personal responsibility for how your individual attitude and actions impact on the Christ centred working of Compassion; Actively participate in the spiritual life of the organisation in the following ways: Model Godly character in all aspects of conduct; Pursue and maintain your Christian faith through ongoing personal spiritual development and a personal relationship with God; Contribute in Christian praise, worship, prayer and biblical reflection during collective prayer times, joining with colleagues in praying for the work of the organisation; Provide support and spiritual encouragement to colleagues, in line with biblical principles; Assist in ensuring that services provided actively promote, maintain and articulate the Christian ethos and values as laid out in our Covenant Charter, Statement of Faith, Core Values and Ethos Statement; Assist in promoting inclusivity within the organisation, so the organisation continues to champion diversity whilst maintaining a clear Christian distinctive. 2. A Marketing Presence team structured and developed to meet Compassion UK s outcomes Lead the Marketing Presence Team, ensuring the team s engagement, personal development, efficient administration and excellent customer service; Seek to keep the vision evident within the team and forefront when communicating change, providing leadership, direction and supervision; Line manage and develop individuals within the team to release full potential; Establish and maintain a positive sense of team, cultivating an effective working environment which fosters staff engagement; Implement Compassion UK s HR policies to ensure effective people management and excellent performance; Chair regular team meetings, conscientiously involving team members in strategy building, team spirit as well as mitigate team conflicts and communication problems; Meet regularly with each team member as an integral part of their ongoing development enabling them to excel by feeling trusted and valued in their role; Manage and delegate team and personal workload, prioritising appropriately, linking targets with team vision and monitoring success; Train team on Compassion core values and processes; Participate in the recruitment and selection of staff. 3. Implementation and delivery of the Marketing Presence team s strategy/targets Deliver agreed acquisition targets; Deliver the implementation of the Marketing & Communication strategy and developing a detailed plan to deliver the implementation for the Presence team s strategy and targets; Remain on top of market trends and competitor activity; Review existing materials and optimize where required; Liaise with global partners to share best practise Lead the development and implementation of all Direct Marketing campaigns;

3 Develop films to support the Compassion brand (e.g. Compassion show reel and campaign films); Manage Ad hoc marketing and communications projects; Manage Compassion s brand equity; Pro-actively investigate opportunities to reach new audiences; Work closely with agency suppliers to develop ideas to leverage these opportunities effectively. 4. Appropriate Marketing communications produced, distributed, evaluated and archived Deliver Direct Marketing Campaigns Oversee Media and PR opportunities, relationships and initiatives; Oversee the implementation of the digital strategy; Support media and PR relationships and activities Support the Innovation Marketing Manager in the development of new ideas Accurately represent Compassion s Christian mission, ethos and values in all marketing materials and communications pieces; Assist in production of broadcasts; Ensure all materials are archived and copies saved, materials are shared with the GMC and other countries (BLUE); Write copy as required, proofread and edit copy; Occasionally represent Compassion at events to speak about the work; Research and write feature articles, news items mailings; Proofread and edit copy and write additional copy as required; Contribute to the CUK blog; Manage and oversee the development of ad hoc communications pieces; Ensure formerly sponsored children, sponsors and others associated with Compassion are interviewed; as needed for acquisition initiatives Upload campaign material to the international asset exchange (BLUE), send discs of Compassion marketing materials and field country offices with links three times a year or as needed. 4 Person Specification Christian Ethos Essential Desirable Active Personal commitment to the Christian Faith with the ability to promote the Christian ethos of Compassion UK and enable others to experience, explore and express the faith based motivation of its work In agreement with and committed to respect and work within Compassion s Christian mission, values and faith statements Willing and able to pray for supporters and colleagues Qualifications & Experience Essential Desirable Educated to tertiary level in Communications and/or Marketing 5 years + experience in Marketing and/ or Advertising Understanding of Media, PR and Social Media Demonstrable working knowledge of researching and writing news and feature articles Knowledge of HTML Project management experience Office administration experience: Microsoft packages including PowerPoint, EXCEL and Adobe Acrobat Pro, telephone systems, Internet and Intranet, keyboard, word processing, photocopiers etc. Understanding of graphic design and print production processes Knowledge of digital and website marketing Fluent in English and competent in numerical work Understanding of branding and brand guidelines Experience of managing design jobs and print handling Understanding of variable mailing data and data management A background in innovation or new product development Attributes Essential Desirable Strong positive character, with integrity, and trusted by others including those he/she leads Servant leader with a desire to empower others to excel. 6 Information for Applicants Job Title Marketing Manager Presence Team Salary Range Hours of Work Travel 31,580 pa (within the grade 31,580-36,460 pa) 09h00 17h00 Monday to Friday Not required except for occasional meetings and training events Salary & Benefits: Compassion UK operates a salary grading system (linked to performance), where each staff member has the opportunity to move up an increment within their grade during their first four years in post. This takes effect in April of each year, when an annual cost of living change is usually also applied. Benefits include full health (AXA PPP) and dental insurance (Denplan) for all permanent staff on satisfactory completion of their probationary period. Annual Leave Full Year: All employees will be entitled to 5 normal working weeks annual leave a *year (pro rata), plus normal bank holidays (pro rata). It will be compulsory for up to 5 (or relevant pro rata) days of that entitlement to be held in reserve and taken during the Christmas Period when Compassion UK close their offices, this is usually around 21 December to 1 January each year. (*Year = 1 January to 31 December) Pensions: There is a non contributory pension scheme for permanent staff to join on satisfactory completion of their probationary period. Learning and Development: Compassion UK seeks to enable each individual to develop to their full potential through a comprehensive performance review process and ongoing opportunities to develop within their role and through external and internal training as applicable. All new staff will be given a comprehensive induction. New Staff Service: Six month probationary period with three month review. Internal Appointments: Performance review at three and six months. Statement of Faith: Compassion is a Christian organisation. The post holder will be part of the Capacity Department, who support the delivery of the main Christian message of Compassion. All applicants for any role in Compassion UK should be able to agree to respect, uphold and commit to working within Compassion UK s Christian faith based ethos, faith statements and values and for this post be able to agree with the Statement of Faith (as referred to in the Application papers).
