Signature Date Orientation Leader Job Description Selection to be a member of IPFW s Orientation Leader team is an honor and a rewarding opportunity for personal and professional growth. Each year the Orientation staff selects a group of mature and dedicated student leaders to assist with implementing New Student Orientation. Orientation Leaders (OLs) serve as peer educators, peer advisors, group facilitators, resource contacts, and role models to new freshmen, transfer students, and their families in their adjustment and transition to IPFW. As an Orientation Leader, you are responsible for reading and understanding the Orientation Leader job description and agree to abide by all terms specified. Multiple conflicts with responsibilities and expectations as an Orientation Leader will result in termination. I. To be eligible, each candidate must: Uphold all aspects of the IPFW Student Code of Conduct Be an undergraduate, degree-seeking student who is enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at IPFW. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0 at the time of application and must maintain at least a 2.0 throughout the position. Be free from disciplinary warning, probation, and suspension. Demonstrate a desire to learn about IPFW, its regulations, its people, and its programs and to share the information with others. Possess the following role model qualities: maturity, responsibility, initiative, motivation, flexibility, enthusiasm, integrity, and a good work ethic. Exhibit good interpersonal communication and group presentation skills. Be eager to improve leadership and teamwork skills. Be able to work effectively with a diverse group of Orientation team members and to promote the benefits of diversity. Special conditions of the position: ability to work long hours that begin early in the morning and that end late at night for days in a row. II. Terms and Conditions of the Position

4 A. Length of Position The duration of this position is April-August specifically on dates specified above. Up to 10 members of the team may be asked to continue in some capacity in the department as a year-round employee. B. Campus Life Skit As an Orientation Leader, you are a participant in the Campus Life Skit and will audition and be assigned a role. Throughout the summer, Orientation staff will work with you to develop lines, character, etc. Do not let this scare you it is an incredible experience. Rehearsal dates will be provided to those selected to the orientation team. C. Classes Orientation Leaders may not take summer classes that interfere with any orientation responsibilities. D. Employment Other employment is allowed, but must not conflict with orientation responsibilities. E. Remuneration/Payment Each Orientation Leader will be paid an $8.50 hourly wage (less applicable taxes). F. Attire Orientation team polos and orientation day shirts will be provided to you. You will be responsible for purchasing khaki pants, shorts, etc. If you encounter a financial hardship, please contact the Assistant Chancellor in SST. G. Absences and Tardiness During training and orientation sessions, members will be expected and required to be on time and available for the entire time scheduled. Time off, therefore, is limited and excused on an emergency permission basis only. OLs are expected to notify the Orientation professional staff of absences in order to be considered for an excused absence. OLs will be held accountable for all unexcused tardies and absences. H. Conduct Orientation Leaders must abide by all University Policies as stated in the IPFW Student Code of Conduct, at all times throughout tenure as a member of the Orientation team. III. Responsibilities The following is a summary of expected duties. The list is not comprehensive and additional duties may be assigned at any time. A. Assistance to family members and students 1. Welcome new students and family members to IPFW and assist them in the initial registration and check-in. Specific tasks are assigned to each OL during check-in. These tasks, among other duties, serve a critical role in the execution of the orientation program. 2. Serve as a role model and facilitator for new students and be constantly accessible to interact with students and their parents to make them feel comfortable, answering all of their questions to the best of the OLs ability and referring questions to the appropriate personnel if the answer is unclear. 3. Be a source of information regarding academics, policies and procedures, campus services, activities, building locations, and all other aspects of life at IPFW. 4. Represent all University organizations equally and accurately to new students and family members.

5 B. Administrative Duties 1. Assist in the organization and preparation of Orientation activities. 2. Assist with office duties as needed. Efficiently complete all logistical tasks as requested by staff. 3. Assist presenters, college representatives, academic advisors, and other admin as needed. 4. Maintain regular communication with all Orientation staff, discussing with them situations that warrant their attention or action. 5. Fully participate in all assigned duties with a positive attitude while taking initiative. **Please note that this is not an exhaustive list. Throughout training and the job itself, requirements may be added or deleted. You must be willing to accept other duties as assigned. All dates and times given are the best source of our knowledge. Wednesday, March 29 Friday, March 31 Individual interview (20 minute time block) Team announcement: Friday, March 31, 2017 Team Training: Training 1 April 7 Training 2 April 14 Training 3 April 21 Training 4 May 19 Team Retreat: Retreat/Walk-thru May 20 Skit Rehearsals: Skit rehearsals will be announced at a later date. They will take place from 4:30-6:30 pm after some of the Advising and Registration summer sessions.
