1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Alumni Engagement Manager Job Ref: MKG193 Campus: Hendon Grade: 7 Salary: 36,179-41,560 per annum Period: Permanent Reporting to: Head of External Relations Reporting to Job Holder: N/A Overall Purpose: The Alumni Engagement Manager will develop and deliver the Alumni engagement strategy and associated enabling plans in line with the University s strategic plan. Responsible for building and strengthening the existing alumni community and creating a vibrant and compelling global alumni network. To ensure Middlesex has an engaged and sustainable group of contributors and endorsers whose sustained interaction with the university will benefit both themselves and our students. The post holder will be part of a team delivering innovative and industry-leading alumni engagement and marketing communications that share the University s values and achievements, encourage lifelong learning, bring real benefit to the careers of our alumni and encourage active support for the University and its students. A critical part of the role will be the development of industry-led engagement strategies to encourage alumni engagement with the University. This engagement will be beneficial for alumni as it will provide on-going professional development and access to professional networks. The engagement will also encourage alumni engagement in development of the curriculum to ensure it is reflective of industry needs, mentoring and coaching of students to build social capital, as well as provision of internships, placements and entry into graduate level jobs for Middlesex students. The post holder will lead and influence the strategy for alumni engagement across the university, linking with Faculties where relevant and senior service colleagues as and when required. The post holder will be expected to establish a productive, collaborative working relationship with the Governors, Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellors, Executive Deans of Faculties, Corporate Engagement and Employability and other senior staff to ensure alumni engagement and supporter relations are embedded in the activities of the University and aligned to key priorities. 2 To develop professional networks of alumni aligned to strategically important industry sectors and international markets for the university s future development and the careers of our graduates and alumni. This will include development of an engagement programme that is a mixture of online and face-to-face engagement focused around key industry sectors and international markets. The programme should drive real value for our alumni for their career development and to provide opportunities for upskilling and reskilling in key industry sectors. The programme will develop strong industry sector and international networks that will have mutual benefits for our alumni and for the university. To build and facilitate alumni networks both local and global, particularly by maximising new technology and social media but also by ensuring a healthy programme of reunions and other alumni events. This includes building strong links with our regional recruitment hubs and our overseas campuses and other overseas partners to deliver events and other activity outside the UK. To manage alumni volunteers and to build a strong network of alumni ambassadors or volunteers who can lead a programme of engagement activity in key industry sectors and international markets. Working in close collaboration with the Director of Corporate Engagement and Director of the Employability Service to achieve this. Working closely with the Alumni Data & Research Officer to identify and profile key alumni from target industry sectors and key international markets. Alumni supporting employability of students and recent graduates To develop a pool of engaged alumni who can support the curriculum development of courses to ensure industry insight is embedded in Middlesex courses. To scope out and deliver schemes that recruit alumni to volunteer their time for mentoring and coaching current students to social capital and drive the social mobility of our students. This will include identifying alumni from key industry sectors and international markets. To develop and implement a network of alumni who can provide job opportunities to students in line with the University s employability strategy to include placement and internship opportunities, alongside access and support into graduate-level schemes and careers. Working in close collaboration with the Director of Corporate Engagement and Director of the Employability Service to achieve this. Recruitment and retention support To scope out and deliver schemes that encourage alumni from key industry sectors and international markets to endorse and recommend study at Middlesex to potential and current students e.g. engaging alumni to support recruitment activities e.g. Open

3 Days and contribution to offline/online promotional campaigns or providing keynote lectures to current students to provide insight into future careers. The post holder will liaise with staff at levels including: colleagues in the Marketing Group, Senior Managers, Academics, Administrative & Facilities staff etc as well as key individuals, VIPs and external organisations. Effective management of the Alumni Engagement budget, driving value for money. To work with an in-house team of professional brand, design, PR and web experts in order to deliver Alumni Relations and Development plans. To explore, investigate, liaise and manage external providers of services where required. Hours: Leave: Flexibility: 35.5 hours per week for 52 weeks per annum, actual daily hours by arrangement. 30 days per annum plus six extra days taken in conjunction with Bank Holidays. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION Job Title: Campus: Alumni Engagement Manager Hendon The Alumni Engagement Manager is one of the University's key communicators and networkers. The skills and experience required are: Essential Outstanding interpersonal skills. Excellent written, oral and presentation skills. The post holder will have a first degree or equivalent work experience The post holder will be passionate about the benefits of higher education or have equivalent experience in a similar role. Good management and negotiation skills. Proven experience in one of the following: Fundraising, Alumni Relations, affinity marketing, corporate communications, membership communications or related disciplines. Knowledgeable in social media with direct professional experience of engaging an audience in this medium. Experience of dealing with senior internal stakeholders and managing relationships within a complex organisation. Experience of managing volunteers and establishing volunteer-led programmes Event management experience Desirable A background in a CRM or customer loyalty programme role is desirable as you will need to clearly understand the aims of our alumni engagement activity and how to improve the offering to enhance the alumni experience and their life-long relationship with the University. Demonstrated accomplishment volunteer management, specifically in fostering productive relationships with volunteers and developing volunteer leadership. Hours: Leave: Flexibility: 35.5 hours per week for 52 weeks per annum, actual daily hours by arrangement. 30 days per annum plus eight Bank Holidays and seven University days taken at Christmas (pro rata for part-time staff) Please note that given the need for flexibility in order to meet the changing requirements, the duties/location of this post and the role of the post holder may be changed after consultation.
