1 Leeds Academic Health Partnership Faculty of Medicine and Health Director of Strategic Delivery and Development Full time With the health and care system in England facing some of the most significant challenges in its history such as increasing demand for services, an ageing population, greater health inequality, and financial pressures - it is imperative that we innovate in order to find new ways of delivering services in the future. The Leeds Academic Health Partnership (LAHP) aims to unite the full research and educational expertise of our universities with the needs of our health and care system, and at the same time work in collaboration with industry partners to develop great ideas that can be transformed into life-changing initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the growth of this innovative organisation, as we implement our new strategy, and to operate at a senior level within an organisation at the forefront of advancing health and social care. We are seeking a Director of Strategic Delivery and Development to provide senior strategic and operational leadership. Accountable for the successful delivery of our ten strategic workstreams, you will develop senior relationships with national and international stakeholders, secure inward investment and lead the LAHP team, acting as deputy for the Chief Operating Officer where necessary. You will be accountable for delivering the partnership s agreed strategy, and with the Chief Operating Officer, for shaping our future strategic direction. Through the management of our small team, you will develop and deliver detailed delivery plans across ten diverse and complex workstreams in close collaboration with senior partners across the city and beyond, ensuring the LAHP develops an international profile. You will also secure inward investment through the management and coordination of multiple high-value, multi-partner bids. You will also be responsible for developing key local, national and international relationships, including for example with senior government ministers and civil servants, NHS and social care chief executives, directors and senior leading clinicians, senior academic leaders including vice chancellors, and the chief executives of multi-national corporations. You will be expected to regularly attend external meetings and events in and beyond Leeds, representing the LAHP nationally and internationally, meaning that international travel may also occasionally be required. You will have substantial experience of working at a senior level within health and care and also preferably academia and/or within the life sciences industry, with significant experience in the planning and delivery of strategic objectives across a complex partnership. You will have detailed knowledge of the priorities and challenges facing health and care locally, nationally and internationally. Knowledge of the operating context for the member organisations which comprise the LAHP is also essential to this role. You will be highly emotionally intelligent and self-aware, self motivated and driven to deliver, with an eye for detail and a passion for producing work of the highest quality. You will also be able to exercise a variety of leadership styles and to provide clear, compassionate and inspiring leadership and direction to a small team.

2 Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience This position will be hosted on an open-ended contract by the University of Leeds on behalf of all Leeds Academic Health Partnership organisations. To explore the post further or for any queries you may have, please contact Danielle Thornton- Lee, Business Manager for the Leeds Academic Health Partnership, Tel: +44 (0) or Reference: MHLAH1002 Closing Date: 23 April 2018 Job Description As the Director of Strategic Delivery and Development, your main duties will include: Accountability for the planning and delivery of our Strategy and with the Chief Operating Officer, for shaping our future strategic direction; Deputising for the LAHP Chief Operating Officer where required; Leadership, management and development of two Strategic Delivery Managers, working with them to ensure that workstreams are appropriately prioritised, scoped, planned and delivered; Responsibility for ensuring effective governance and risk management arrangements are in place for successful delivery of work within your remit; Responsibility for identifying and securing inward investment through the management and coordination of multiple high-value, multi-partner bids; Responsibility for ensuring that impact and outcomes are measured, realised and reported on as appropriate, representing the LAHP at high-level city-wide governance meetings; Accountable for the management of the LAHP s strategic delivery and operational budgets; Responsibility for ensuring that LAHP partners are engaged and well connected with the development of each of the workstreams, ensuring they continue to receive the benefits of being within the partnership; Responsibility for developing and maintaining key stakeholder relationships, and for developing an understanding of their needs and priorities in order to support and promote a culture of integrated working around the health and care agenda in the city, and position the LAHP as key to this approach; Responsible for an account management system to ensure effective contact and communication with LAHP members, as well as taking an active role in the account management process, acting as first point of contact for partners, meeting with them regularly to understand their needs, share LAHP business, keeping the internal contact database updated and regularly briefing the team on issues of importance; Responsible for developing key stakeholder relationships (including, for example, NHS and local government chief executives, directors and senior leading clinicians, senior academic leaders including vice chancellors, managing directors of multi-national corporations, the third sector, and the public) to develop an understanding of their needs and priorities, and to support and promote a culture of integrated working around the health and care agenda in the city, positioning the LAHP as a key strand of this approach; Leadership, development and management of the LAHP s Marketing and Communications Manager, working with him or her to ensure that the LAHP and its member organisations are locally, regionally, nationally and internationally recognised and respected;

3 Responsibility for ensuring strategic alignment with other key City and national strategies in particular the Leeds Health and Wellbeing Strategy, the Inclusive Growth strategy, the NHS 5 Year Forward View and the Leeds Health and Care Plan; Representing the LAHP at national and international conferences and events; Authoring high quality reports and papers for internal and external meetings; Providing strategic specialist advice, support and expertise to LAHP members; Ensuring compliance with legislation, national standards, best practice and all relevant policies in pursuit of excellence in service delivery. These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post. You will report to the Chief Operating Officer. What will you bring to the role? As the LAHP s Director of Strategic Delivery and Development, you will have/be: Masters level qualification in a relevant subject, or equivalent level of experience working at a similar level in a specialist area; Substantial experience in a senior delivery-focussed role within health and care with extensive knowledge of, and experience of working within, the health and care sectors and challenges they face, locally and nationally; Senior experience of working through complex, high level partnerships; able to develop and deliver strategies in and through partnerships with stakeholders and team members; Able to form relationships with, secure the buy-in of, and give expert advice to, senior stakeholders from a variety of sectors and backgrounds; Demonstrable experience and capability to plan over short, medium and long-term timeframes and adjust plans and resource requirements accordingly; Evidence of, and experience in, the ability to make decisions autonomously, when required, on difficult issues, working to tight and often changing timescales; Extensive knowledge of the academic sector and the challenges it faces, locally and nationally; Knowledge of the operating context for LAHP member organisations; Demonstrable experience of writing reports, carrying out presentations and communicating at all levels, adapting style as appropriate to ensure engagement by others; Highly numerate, with the ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options; Highly emotionally intelligent and self-aware, self motivated and driven to deliver, with an eye for detail and a passion for producing work of the highest quality. You will also be able to exercise a variety of leadership styles and to provide clear, compassionate and inspiring leadership and direction to a small team. A demonstrable willingness to actively participate in training and development activities to ensure up to date knowledge, skills and continuous professional development. You may also have: Experience in a senior delivery-focused role within academia and/or the life sciences industry; Professional membership in a relevant field.
