1 Director of Marketing & Fundraising JOB PURPOSE To lead, manage and develop the marketing and fundraising strategies to enhance the profile and reputation of Aberlour, and to increase income. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES Providing Direction Assist the Chief Executive in the preparation of strategic and operational plans, providing specific advice and direction in respect of marketing, fundraising and communication. Work closely with the Director of Children and Families and Business Development team to identify, evaluate and prioritise new business opportunities, developing marketing and communication and fundraising strategies to support the growth and development of Aberlour. Lead the marketing and fundraising functions. Develop and deliver a marketing and fundraising strategy, ensuring compliance with charity regulations and standards. Develop and deliver a communications and public relations strategy and assist in the development of key messages and policy positions. Achieving Results Increase income through fundraising events, successful trust applications and corporate support. Raise the corporate profile of Aberlour s work, brand image & brand recognition levels across Scotland. Increase the number of corporate partners, individual donors and supporters. Identify, develop and promote new communications and marketing tools (including on-line and e-marketing). Ensure that all activity complies with charity law, tax, and other statutory requirements. Ensure that all fundraising activities are in line with the organisation's socially responsible finance and investment policies. Director of M&F June 16.doc Page 1 of 5

2 Manage, set and measure the performance of outsourced work. Working with People Lead, support and develop the marketing and fundraising teams. Work in partnership with SLT colleagues to contribute to the sustainability of the organisation. Develop, implement and monitor departmental and individual work plans, liaising with the Director of Children and Families and Business Development team on potential restricted income priorities Provide appropriate training and development opportunities for managers to develop skills and capacity in marketing, communications and public relations. Using Resources Negotiate and work within agreed budgets. Deploy financial and physical assets to achieve maximum impact, return on investment and best value. Ensure that all activity is socially responsible and promotes sustainable development. Facilitating Change Lead, plan and manage change across the Marketing and Fundraising function to deliver strategic ambitions. Lead and promote innovation to enhance the profile of Aberlour and to increase income. Influence change and improvement in the voluntary sector, and specifically in the child care sector, through external networks, partnerships and working groups. Quantitative Responsibilities Responsible for the management of the Marketing and Fundraising Team. Overall responsibility for Marketing and Fundraising budgets and delivering against agreed income targets SCOPE OF ORGANISATION AND PLANNING The post holder is responsible to the Chief Executive and provides advice and support to the Board and other committees as required. The post holder contributes to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) sharing corporate responsibility for the sustainability and development of Aberlour. The post holder has responsibilities for planning at strategic planning and organisational levels typically over a 3 year period. The post holder works closely with all Directors and plans in partnership with the Director of Children and Families. The post holder has the lead organisational role for the marketing and fundraising function. Based on the Aberlour strategic plan the post holder will agree an individual work plan with the Chief Executive. 3 implementation of the plan and reporting is by exception. The post holder will have a high degree of autonomy in progressing and developing the work plan. The post holder will plan and deliver the marketing and fundraising function ensuring that activity meets all constitutional, legal and regulatory requirements. SCOPE OF DECISION MAKING AND JUDGEMENT The post holder has the lead responsibility to develop the strategic and operational objectives in respect of M&F function. The post holder will inform and influence strategic decision making across these functions, drawing on professional expertise and up to date technical knowledge. The post holder is the organisation s technical expert in these fields. The post holder is responsible for day to day decision making to achieve these objectives and provides support to other senior managers in this process. The post holder ensures effective delegation and provides direction and guidance in support of tasks to be achieved within the departmental strategies; assists with prioritisation where required and may support the resolution of complex or difficult staffing issues. The post holder has an agreed annual target for income generation and fundraising. He/she is required to budget, forecast, interpret and act appropriately on financial information. RELATIONSHIPS Internal External Advise, guide and support the Chief Executive and Board of Directors, providing specific advice on marketing, fundraising and communications issues. Work closely with the Director of Children and Families and Business Development team to develop plans for restricted income. Advise and support members of SLT and wider management team. Work closely with the CEO and Policy to develop key messages, policy positions and to determine future campaigns and initiatives. Regular meetings with operational managers to advise and collaborate on M&F objectives and tasks. Establish, develop and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders including: Major Donors. Corporate contacts. Solicitors. Charitable Trusts. 4 Voluntary & Statutory agencies. QUALIFICATIONS A relevant qualification at SCQF level 10 or above or Equivalent knowledge acquired by other means EXPERIENCE Significant experience working as senior Fundraising Manager or Director preferably within the voluntary sector. Proven successful track record of fundraising from a variety of sources (e.g. individuals, corporate agencies, trusts and foundations, major gifts and legacies). Developing and delivering multi-channel marketing strategies and campaigns. Evaluating campaigns and identifying key learning. Brand management and development. Liaison and management of external suppliers and third party relations, including partnerships and alliances. Public relations & working with the media. Experience of managing projects effectively and building project teams. Demonstrate an ability to inspire others and build effective teams as well as being a strategic thinker and an excellent communicator. KNOWLEDGE Good understanding of corporate social responsibility & knowledge of Scottish business community. Good understanding of financial management; income generation and budgetary controls. SKILLS An excellent and exemplary skill base will be demonstrated in; Verbal and written communication. People skills, including team leadership and management. Business planning and reporting.
