2 Message from the CEO We are looking for an outstanding leader to help grow the charity s supporter engagement, following significant changes in the charity s senior management. The new post of Director of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications will work very closely with me to oversee the charity s activities, and will play a pivotal role in the strategic development and long-term planning of XLP s fundraising, communications and marketing. Ensuring sustainability is one of three key strategic areas for the charity, alongside impact, and, in time, scale. The post-holder will be responsible for maintaining and growing XLP s current 2m annual income. XLP is looking for an energetic people-person with a heart for the work we do, and a relevant and proven experience in fundraising, marketing and communications. The person will need to be dynamic, enthusiastic, think strategically and have excellent relationship-building skills in order to engage a wide range of stakeholders. In doing so, they will keep some of London s most disadvantaged young people in school, out of gangs and working towards positive futures. Luke Watson

3 XLP is a youth work charity founded in 1996 in response to a stabbing in a school playground. We work with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and journey with them to help them into positive futures, irrespective of their pasts. Long-term relationship is the key to making a difference in young people s lives, and we recognise that young people often require many years to build trust, which enables them in turn to believe in themselves and in positive role models and for that belief to lead to transformation. Our vision is to see young people choosing to stay in education and succeed, choosing not to be involved in Introduction to XLP gangs, crime or anti-social behaviour, and choosing to set goals for the future and to work hard to achieve them. We do this by engaging young people in their schools, on their estates and through their passions, such as music, art or sports. We work with over 1,600 young people each week, across nine London boroughs, and together with the wealth of experience, expertise and commitment of our youth workers, help them to build aspirations and self-confidence for the future. We are a charity motivated by faith in Christ, that works equally with young people of all faiths and none.

5 Job Description To work with the CEO and Senior Management Team (SMT) to devise, implement and develop effective strategy for the fundraising, marketing and communications functions, in line with XLP s vision and values. Specifically: To generate income, raise awareness and ensure the fundraising, marketing and communications plans enable the youth work delivery and development To develop, implement and achieve a five-year rolling income-generation and communications strategy aligned to XLP s organisational objectives, through the development of sustainable, proactive, multidiscipline fundraising To lead the development of an effective external communications strategy To ensure that communications opportunities are prioritised and maximised, and to ensure the XLP brand is synonymous with high quality youth work and has a reputation for excellence and impact To maintain and build the profile of XLP, including brand development and reputation management To be an effective member of the Senior Management Team, contributing to the overall management, strategic development and quality control of XLP and ensuring that all fundraising and communication implications are fully considered in all senior management decision-making

6 Key Tasks and Responsibilities Create annual action plans, forecasts and budgets to support the fundraising and communications strategies, to review those plans quarterly, and develop and apply contingency plans Drive the strategic and operational development of income streams, including from trusts and foundations, and through individuals, communities, churches and corporate relationships Identify, assess and pursue new fundraising opportunities for XLP Develop strategy for key supporter groups, such as churches and faith groups, in the communities XLP works in. Ensure a growth in giving and volunteering Oversee the development and implementation of the communications strategy, to include media and political relations, branding, online communications, and the development of communication resources and publications to support XLP s fundraising and other organisational objectives Be responsible for knowing and keeping up to date with the latest fundraising legislation; ensuring XLP s compliance, implementing best practice, and disseminating guidance as appropriate throughout the organisation Manage the risk within each of these fundraising and communication streams and respond to changes Manage the Head of Corporate Partnerships, the Fundraising Officer and Marketing Communications Manager, and together with other office-based staff and any future fundraising staff Oversee and monitor the fundraising, marketing and communication teams against agreed KPIs through clear direction, delegation and regular feedback on key activities Build and nurture relationships with XLP s funders and guide the CEO and other senior staff (including Trustees) in doing the same Support and guide all staff in their communications and fundraising efforts, including seeking out public awareness opportunities and taking unsolicited ones Play a leading role in XLP s overall direction and provide spiritual leadership to the organisation Provide oral and written reports and presentations to XLP staff, Trustees and external bodies as required on all areas of responsibility Perform such additional tasks as may reasonably be requested from time to time by the CEO Deputise to the CEO

7 Person Specification The post-holder will be able to show experience in the following: Developing and implementing successful income generation strategies in line with an organisation s overall strategic aims Identifying and developing new income streams especially from major donors, corporates, foundations and trusts Building partnerships and maintaining effective relationships Leading, line managing and developing a multidisciplinary team covering fundraising, marketing and communications Leading within a complex organisation Understanding communications opportunities and risks, and the ability to deal with a crisis Establishing procedures for monitoring progress against plans and objectives and ensuring best use of financial and other resources Financial planning, including setting, managing and monitoring multiple and complex budgets Understanding the legislation, regulations, trends, best practice and financial issues relating to fundraising and communications Networking at a high level Experience of working for a charity in fundraising and being a spokesperson The post-holder should have the following: Degree level education or equivalent Excellent written and oral communication skills Christian Faith: XLP is a Christian charity employing Christians, but works equally with young people of all faiths and none
