Stobhill Church-based Community Development Worker This is a new part-time post, initially funded for 3 years, which aims to build community within Stobhill, based around the new Beacon Project at St. Aidan s C of E church. Job Description: In conjunction with other Parish staff, work closely with individuals, families and groups in socially or financially deprived areas. Provide leadership, and bring local people together to make changes and tackle social inequality. Help people develop the skills needed to eventually run their own community groups. This would typically include: finding out about the community's needs, problems and barriers making sure that local people have their say developing new opportunities, with a focus on building sustainable projects, and monitoring existing projects helping to raise public awareness about community issues encouraging local people to take action building links with other groups and agencies raising funds for local projects recruiting volunteers planning meetings and events helping groups to settle differences of opinion on local issues doing any necessary administration work. This could be achieved with a variety of activities or through one targetted project. Person specification/key competencies Knowledge (desirable) Understanding of issues around social exclusion, loneliness, community cohesion Understanding of relevant statutory and voluntary provision Experience ( essential) Ability to develop and foster relationships with members of the community, members of the church team, statutory bodies and voluntary sector providers.

Qualifications (desirable) Professional qualification in Youth & Community work or Social Work GCSEs in Maths & English grades A* - C (or euqivalent) A commitment to continuing professional development Additional information This is a three year permanent post working 18 hours a week. Employment will be conditional upon receipt of satisfactory enhanced DBS Disclosure and references, and be subject to satisfactory completion of a probation period of six months. The post-holder would need to be prepared to work some unsocial hours, including evenings and weekends. The post-holder would be ultimately responsible to the PCC but management would be provided by one of the Church staff team. Salary is 7,800+ pa and Annual leave entitlement 21 days (pro-rata) There is a Genuine Occupation Requirement (GOR) for the holder of this post to be a Christian.
