CGS VALUES Courtesy & Respect, Integrity, Innovation, Adaptability, Commitment, Accountability POSITION OVERVIEW The role of the Turf & Grounds Officer is to maintain the general appearance, condition and presentation of the school sports field and surrounds of the Keith Anderson Oval plus various works at the Gordon Barnard Reserve ovals, Hislop Reserve, Leason Street Tennis Complex and other fields used by CGS. The presentation of the sports fields is to be of an excellent standard and appropriate to the relevant seasonal sport whilst adhering to OH&S policies and compliance laws. Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain the school cricket pitch and practice wickets o Rolling o Mowing o Watering o Soil Conditions o Scarifying o Fertilising o Line marking and set up for use o Turf health and growth Maintain the School s synthetic hockey pitch and Junior School multi-purpose sports field o Grooming o Sweeping o Top dressing o Identify unsafe areas and/or requiring repair Sports fields preparation and maintenance: o Mowing o Aerating o Fertilizing o Scarifying o Line marking o Insecticide and Herbicide selection and use o Topdressing o Pest and disease ID and control Assist with the maintenance of the School s lawns Ensure that plant and equipment is maintained in good and safe working order compliant with OH&S legislation Assist the Assistant Property Manager in planning future grounds development work and maintenance according to the school s busy sporting calendar Monitor the programming and operation of irrigation systems. Repairs and maintenance of irrigation systems. Page 2 of 5

3 Have appropriate spraying licences for chemical distribution. Erect goal posts, nets etc. as required according to the season Monitor and report any issues with the grounds to the Assistant Property Manager Role will involve towing and operation of machinery at various sites. Monitor turf and playing surface conditions. Identify and resolve any issues that may arise Keep up to date with any industry issues or council requirements e.g. Water restrictions or community requirements Follow all School Policies and procedures when applicable. Operate to a set budget Other Duties Perform various other duties as required KEY RELATIONSHIPS & AUTHORITY Internal Headmaster Business Manager Property Manager & Assistant Property Manager Head of Physical Education Head of Sports Physical Education Staff Maintenance and Grounds team CGS Staff External Trade Contractors Goods and service providers of the Sports Field Direct Reports NA Expenditure Authority Authority to incur School expenditure in line with approved authority limits POSITION REQUIREMENTS Knowledge & Skills 5+ years of experience in Sports Ground and Turf maintenance Experience in a similar position within in a School Environment Previous experience in large gardens, parks or open space areas Knowledge and skills in safe operation, care and optimum practice in use of machinery and equipment Excellent knowledge of plants, pests & diseases Knowledge associated with the keeping of the grounds (e.g. Council & Government Regulations) Experience monitoring, controlling and overseeing project activities Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours some weekend work will be required Knowledge and appreciation of OH&S Page 3 of 5
