The post involves working 1:1 with David Smith, a 47year old man with learning disabilities. It requires picking David up from his home address in Great Tey and driving him to the Level Best Art Café in Colchester. The post holder will then work 1:1 with David at the Café, engaging him in a range of activities. At Level Best we provide work and life skills training to adults with learning disabilities through four social enterprise projects: Dacon Bake Catering and running of the Café Seasonal produce Making Jams, Chutneys, fruit cordials and various gifts for special occasions Horticulture To help grow our own produce on our allotment ArtCo Art and design and the running of our art gallery David works across each of these projects so a keen interest in one of these areas is essential. The post is part-time (13.5hrs per week) and forms a job share. The usual days of work will be Monday and Tuesday. The post will require covering annual leave (15days per year) and sick leave on Wednesdays, Thursdays and/or Fridays. You will also be required to work one bank holiday per year and one day over the Christmas period (not a bank holiday) this will be agreed in advance. 2 JOB DESCRIPTION Post Title Personal Assistant to David Smith (Part-time - Job Share) Accountable to The Dacon Trust Council of Management Responsible to David Smith Primary Carer and Art Café Manager Organisational relationships With all other Dacon Trust staff and associated agents working with and on behalf of David Smith Job summary: To provide 1:1 support to David Smith at the Art Café to ensure he is fully engaged in work skills activities as discussed and agreed with the manager and David s primary carer. To transport David Smith between home and the Level Best Art Café.

3 Main duties and responsibilities Personal Assistant Role: To escort David by car from his home to the Level Best Art Café in line with support guidelines and risk assessments. (NOTE: The post holder must hold a full UK Driving License.) To work alongside Level Best Art Café staff in providing programmes of activities for David within both the Art Café and other locations as required On occasions when David is unable to go to the Art Café (e.g. due to holiday) the post holder will be required to work at the Art Café under the direction of the manager. Tasks will include working alongside Art Café staff in the provision of work skills training to trainees in art, cooking and horticulture. If David is unable to attend the Art Café due to sickness support will be provided at David s home or in hospital as applicable. Contribute to David s reviews, providing verbal and written progress reports as requested Contribute to risk assessments by identifying risk behaviours and assist in formulating a risk management plan to minimise risk behaviours To support David with his personal and health needs, including administration of medication Maintain a functional working relationship with the manager and David s carers, ensuring that all relevant changes in health and well-being are notified To cover day shifts, sometimes at short notice, when David s other personal assistant is on sick leave or annual leave To work one bank holiday per year. This will be agreed in advance and will not include bank holidays over the Christmas period. The day will be paid at double pay. To work one day over the Christmas closure period (not a bank holiday). To be agreed in advance. This day will be based at David s home and not at the Art Café.
