The role of audit committees is central to effective governance and the objective is to raise the standard and efficacy of the audit committee s work through an improved understanding of the way that they work. 85 TRAINING COURSES: public sector reform Trainer spotlight John Maddocks CIPFA Technical Manager, Charities, Social Enterprises and Sustainability John is an accountant with over 20 years experience of working in and with cooperatives, charities, and social enterprises. He works closely with the CIPFA Charities and Social Enterprises Panel and the CIPFA Sustainability Working Group and has contributed to a range of CIPFA publications, courses and workshops on related topics. Previous publications include Social enterprise and public service delivery and Whole life costing, and John also contributes regularly to the CIPFA TISonline information service. Prior to joining CIPFA, John was Director of Research at the Centre of Excellence in Accounting and Reporting for Co-operatives (CEARC), at Saint Mary s University, Nova Scotia.
