4 key to success A key factor in a successful safety program is employee training. Effective training not only checks the compliance boxes but reduces injury and incident rates by raising awareness of hazards and teaching safe work practices.

8 types of training Online learning can and should be used as part of a successful safety training program. Online training is a useful tool in safety and other areas of employee training. One thing in common want high participation and completion rates.

10 defining culture Work culture is a product of the values, beliefs and expectations that guide employee behavior. A strong and carefully developed culture can help a company operate safely and efficiently. A poorly designed cultures can create unsafe work environments and potentially be very costly.

11 culture is critical Culture sets the expectations for much of what happens in an organization. The company s culture is embodied most prominently by the employee s manager. So firstand second-line managers are the critical links in bringing a company s culture to life. If leaders and supervisors don t value and make training a priority neither will employees

13 boost participation and completion It can be challenging to entice and engage people in training, especially online training. But it s not impossible. Online learning doesn t have to mean low participation and completion rates.

14 Accountability is a key component in culture. Specifically, if you set completion goals for training, you need a way to track progress and hold people accountable to make sure goals are being met. accountability

Sharing results throughout the organization also brings visibility to safety and accountability to everyone. caution A word of caution, setting the stakes too high can be counterproductive and encourage false reporting of results and a misplaced focus on winning rather than learning. Keep the competition friendly and the value of the prize reasonable and related to the goal.

28 carrots Incentives can be a great way to boost participation and completion. Tangible carrots could include $5 gift cards to a coffee shop for hitting a monthly goal or a pizza party for achieving a quarterly goal. Carrots in the courses themselves can also be fun and meaningful.
