We provide specialist services for adults and families engaged in homelessness and justice. JOB CONTEXT MCM s Early Years, Education and Employment (EEE) division supports young people and adults who experience unemployment, disengagement &/or disadvantage. The EEE division provides a continuum of programs, support and advocacy to enable young people and adults to achieve their social and economic potential, we advocate learning for everyone, for all of life. Within the EEE division is Hester Hornbrook Academy. Hester Hornbrook Academy (Academy) is an Independent School that provides the Victorian Certificate in Applied Learning (VCAL), at the Foundation, Intermediate and Senior levels. VCAL is delivered in a flexible learning environment, with a holistic approach to wellbeing and educational goals giving students the opportunity to work on individual areas of interest, integrated projects and team activities. Our aim is to reconnect young people with education and training and empower them to use these tools to build a positive future. Our classrooms are designed to support young people who have faced barriers to learning in the Page 1 of 5

2 past. Our education spaces are child safe environments. We actively promote the safety and wellbeing of all students, and our staff are committed to protecting students from abuse or harm in the school environment in accordance with their legal obligations including the child safe standards. JOB PURPOSE The Area Manager is a senior leader within the Education, Training & Transitions team and is primarily responsible for management of a designated area/region and all MCM and Academy programs within it. The Education, Training & Transitions team includes a diverse and professional team of both employees and volunteers, and this role supervises a number of direct reports including Educators, Team Leaders, and direct program employees across a particular region (i.e. city/north, west and southern Melbourne region). Core to this role is managing classrooms of the Academy that fall within the designated area. The Area Manager will also lead the delivery of a diverse range of transition and engagement initiatives funded by state, corporate, philanthropic and council partners. This role contributes to Academy and ETT leadership planning and decision making by offering a strategic and operational overview for all young people and stakeholders that come into contact with programs of MCM and the Academy delivered within the region. This leadership role has requirements of policy development, implementation and ongoing compliance. The Area Manager will be responsible for developing all local networks to ensure sustained referral paths into the relevant programs. The Area Manager will be responsible for the implementation of new innovative and financially stabilisable transition programs within the Education, Training & Transition team and further strengthening existing stakeholder relationships. The Manager will be responsible to identify funding sources and write grants and/or tenders where required. This position will also be responsible to develop and implement new initiatives and continue to strengthen new and existing relationships. This role works closely with the Manager Learning & Teaching Practice, Manager Student Support, and other Area Managers in all matters related to the Academy and MCM programs to achieve consistency and collaboration. JOB OBJECTIVES Duties of this role may include but are not limited to the following: Financial management of all program related expenditure. Staff leadership and management of the Academy Educators and Team Leaders. Operationally manage all activities and employees in the site/region to ensure safety and compliance. With oversight from the Manager Student Support, be responsible for all student movement (intake, engagement and exiting) in the region between programs (the Academy and other). Using strategic imperatives ensure student engagement for young people are implemented. Delivery of quality programs within the region with clear understanding of all funding streams and reporting requirements. Site resources management and interface with relevant corporate services. 3 In collaboration with corporate services, support key division projects where required. Work with new and existing stakeholders to support partnerships, future growth and innovation including sourcing new funding opportunities. Participate in, and facilitate, meetings, debriefing, supervision, training, and forums. Contribute to a culture with the Academy leadership of continuous review and improvement. Support with the implementation of strategic imperatives of education and training according to the MCM and the Academy Strategic Plans. Ensure services are delivered within the framework of MCM/Academy s policies and procedures, legislative requirements, and meet the relevant service standards. Perform other duties and responsibilities, as directed by the Principal or delegate. Selection criteria KEY RELATIONSHIPS Accountability Internal Relationships External Relationships The position is accountable to Principal/Senior Manager Education, Training & Transitions or any other person nominated by Melbourne City Mission from time to time. This position may have relationships with employees from a range of Melbourne City Mission program areas, dependant on the needs of the people they are supporting. Some examples may include: Hester Hornbrook Academy managers and education employees Hester Hornbrook Academy Youth Workers Employees from the MCM EEE division Employees from MCM such as People & Culture and Finance This position will actively liaise and network with a significant number of local external service providers, organisations and stakeholders within the community, with the view to providing the most appropriate and effective services and supports to the people they support. Some examples may include: Education Partners Relevant community service providers Student s communities KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Essential: Experience leading a team of professionals working in a community services context with the ability to oversee a range of crisis interventions and management strategies to young people at risk. Tertiary qualifications in youth work, education or a related discipline, and/or experience in the community services/education sector, working with young people with complex needs. Page 3 of 5

4 Understanding and experience working within the education and training environment as experienced by young people experiencing disadvantage. Demonstrated experience and understanding of case management practices, legislation and policy, particularly for programs and initiatives funded by DHHS. Demonstrated experience in the development of new initiatives and program enhancements. Demonstrated experience in financial management and ability to work within program budgets. Excellent written and report writing skills including experience in grant and tender writing. Ability to build and maintain relationships, and work collaboratively with other organisations in formal and informal partnerships to achieve client outcomes. Demonstrated capacity to work flexibly, and have the ability to manage competing demands. High level interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) within a diverse education community or similar environment. Well-developed keyboard and computer skills in Microsoft Applications and the ability to learn new systems. Understanding of relevant legislation, including Child Safe Policy, Equal Opportunity and Occupational Health & Safety, and their application. Satisfactory completion of safety screening including a National Police check, International Police check (if required), a current Victorian Working with Children Check (Employee), current Victorian Drivers Licence, and the right to work in Australia.
