2 Responsible to: Accountable to: Responsible for: Digital Resources and Collections Manager Head of Library and Learning Services Assistant Cataloguer, Information Assistants, Resource Development Assistant Overall Purpose To be responsible for the provision of a positive information discovery experience via the library s systems. The library s systems include, but are not limited to, the discovery tool, the library management system, the electronic records management system, the institutional research repository and the reading list system. The role holder will manage the Discovery Team, and work across Academic Services and beyond to enhance resource discovery. Principal Duties and Responsibilities To manage and develop processes and workflows for both digital and print content that lead to a quality resource discovery experience. To generate and analyse usage data and metrics from library systems to enable responsive collection management and data driven decision making. To gather feedback on the user experience of the library s resources, both digital and print, to monitor quality and enable service improvements. To investigate and promote new technologies and standards relevant to information discovery, including artificial intelligence, machine learning and metadata. To manage the population and maintenance of high quality resource records across the Departments library systems. To communicate effectively with colleagues within the department and across the University to troubleshoot issues affecting the discovery experience. To manage and motivate the Discovery Team, including the development of projects to create a positive impact on the discovery experience. To assist in induction for new staff, assessing training needs of, and undertaking appraisal processes for Information Assistants. To deputise as appropriate for the Digital Resources and Collections Manager. Page 1

3 To represent the Department proactively at institutional meetings and events and to liaise as appropriate with other departments on metadata and interoperability issues. To participate in appropriate local, national and international professional networks to influence appropriate change within the sector. To develop a network of peers in the H sector and elsewhere, for mutual benefit and support. Generic Duties and Responsibilities The post holder will be expected to undertake other responsibilities and tasks as reasonably requested by the Head of Library and Learning Services. The post holder will be responsible and accountable for ensuring all employment legislative requirements are adhered to including equality and diversity and health and safety issues. 6 Terms and Conditions of mployment Job Title: Duration: Hours: Salary: Work Base: Pension: Holidays: Substantive Full Time, 37 hours per week Grade 6: 27,025-33,199 per annum Waterside Campus or any of The University of Northampton premises as required ligible to join the Local Government Pension Pro rata 23 days per annum plus 5 days after 5 years continuous service plus Bank Holidays and Closed days. Notice period: 1 month Probationary period: 6 months Additional Points to Note Applicants are required to provide two referees who can give an opinion on academic and/or professional work experience. Successful applicants are required to provide any stated/required qualifications and evidence of any memberships to professional bodies.
