Since 2004, it has campaigned to uphold the rights of trafficked children and children that are abused by British nationals travelling, living or working abroad, lobbying government, conducting research, training frontline professionals and supporting child victims of trafficking in the UK through ongoing peer support initiatives. ECPAT UK has advocated for the best protections for children who have been trafficked into, within and out of the UK for the purposes of exploitation including forced labour, domestic servitude, forced criminality, sexual exploitation and other forms of abuse. In 2015, ECPAT UK successfully lobbied the Government to introduce a number of key child protection provisions in the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and Sexual Offences Act Please visit our website for more information about our work and campaigns: ABOUT THE ROLE ECPAT UK is recruiting a Policy and Campaigns Officer to help influence systemic change for children who have been trafficked. The successful applicant will provide essential support to the Head of Advocacy, Policy & Campaigns to ensure the policy and campaigning work generates, leads and informs public and political discourse on child trafficking in the UK. Central to this role is having the confidence, skills and capabilities to produce and present convincing arguments at the highest levels in the public, private and the NGO sectors to uphold the rights of children. 2 JOB DESCRIPTION The Policy & Campaigns Officer is a key role in helping ECPAT UK influence positive change for children. You will provide essential support to the Head of Advocacy, Policy & Campaigns to ensure policy and campaigning work generates, leads and informs public and political discourse on child trafficking and child exploitation, with a particular focus on the Greater London region. Central to this role is having the confidence, skills and capabilities to produce and present convincing arguments to uphold the rights of children. As Policy & Campaigns Officer you will support the Head of Advocacy, Policy & Campaigns to realise ECPAT UK s campaigns strategy, which supports the overall mission of the organisation. You will have a range of outward facing responsibilities and will represent ECPAT UK in network meetings, and be expected to be a key advocate for children while representing ECPAT UK s key policy and campaign calls in any public forum. Of equal importance is keeping ECPAT UK staff up to date with trends, emerging issues and contacts relevant to child trafficking and protection of children. You will also lead ECPAT UK s online campaigns, generating petitions and actions to mobilise the public and secure substantive support for children who have been trafficked. You will work closely with other ECPAT UK staff and actively participate in team meetings, training and events, and report to the Head of Advocacy, Policy & Campaigns. You will be expected to demonstrate a commitment to the core values of ECPAT UK, including being a passionate advocate for the rights of children. DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFIC Support the Head of Advocacy, Policy & Campaigns with campaigns, policy work, research and lobbying Promote and engage in partnership working with statutory and non-statutory organisations involved in anti-trafficking, including the Metropolitan Police (child abuse and human trafficking divisions), the Mayor s Office and all 32 London Boroughs Represent ECPAT UK at networking and steering groups, including local authority groups, NGO forums, statutory sub-groups and events, including training and speaking events and other meetings when requested Promote ECPAT UK to a range of legal networks, including child law, criminal law and immigration law networks Assist in developing convincing arguments, briefings, research reports and communication materials to lead ECPAT UK advocacy and campaigns plan on exploitation of children, with a specific focus on child trafficking Generate online campaigns and actions, including drafting petitions, letters to MPs and other key assets to secure change for children Inform ECPAT UK staff of any new developments in international and national law, policy and emerging trends, particularly through the use of staff bulletins and internal meetings Assist in delivering training to frontline professionals Assist the Head of Advocacy, Policy & Campaigns on projects

3 GENERAL Work with the ECPAT UK Head of Youth Development Programmes to involve young people directly in ECPAT UK s work Actively participate in ECPAT UK staff meetings and team briefings Provide relevant information to the administration, communications and fundraising teams Provide quarterly reports on own work, annual reports and monitoring and evaluation data Assist the CEO from time to time with projects Represent ECPAT UK externally at events, meetings and platforms PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL 1. Experience of developing or supporting policy and campaigning work 2. Experience of developing communications or advocacy strategies, including online campaigns 3. Knowledge of parliamentary, national and local governmental legislative structures and processes, including European parliamentary structures and bodies 4. Experience of lobbying MPs and drafting campaign briefings 5. Strong grasp of national and international statutory and regulatory framework on child rights and child protection 6. Knowledge of issues facing children vulnerable to trafficking and exploitation, in particular migrant children 7. A confident and persuasive communicator including fluent spoken and written English 8. Experience of public speaking, including speaking to different target audiences 9. Excellent research and writing skills, with the ability to translate sensitive or complex policy issues into a strong narrative 10. Experience of building strategic relationships with public sector leaders, as well as community groups 11. Knowledge of online campaigning tools, tactics, actions and platforms, including e-newsletters 12. A team player with a flexible approach, good interpersonal skills and the ability to manage a varied and demanding workload 13. Excellent working knowledge of office software packages, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. 14.
