2 Recognition It s no secret among winning companies that employees should be honored for their achievements. CustomInk hosts the Inkademy Awards to recognize team members for their exemplary demonstration of company values. HPTi employees can showcase their work at the company s internal tradeshow. Knight Point Systems grants a Standing Ovation Award each quarter to employees who show exceptional performance. Ventera instituted a peer recognition Bulldog Award, which is awarded quarterly at the company s all-hands meeting. At InTec, employees are invited to lunch with the president. At Consumer Electronic Association (CEA), there are shout out boards located throughout the office that encourage employees to recognize the contributions of their peers. Prizes are given quarterly for participation. NetImpact Strategies, Inc. sends out a Kudos Bulletin from the CEO to highlight successes and client feedback for specific employees. Outside the main lunch area, Compusearch posts various em ployee accolades received from clients. Family First CARE-ing companies embrace family-friendly policies. CustomInk provides three weeks of 100% paid maternity and paternity leave for the birth or adoption of a child. Federal Management Partners, Inc. (FMP) offers up to four months of maternal leave; paternal leave is also available. SRA provides three months extended leave beyond the Family and Medical Leave Act period. Volkswagen Group of America offers an adoption subsidy per adopted child to help defer the legal costs associated with the adoption process.

3 Promoting Development Part of retaining a highly skilled workforce is emphasizing the importance of continuous training and education. SRA provides up to $6,250 per year for tuition reimbursement. It employs an internal mobility team focused on job reassignments and career development. ManTech University is a first-class, award-winning corporate university established to support the emerging training and educational needs for ManTech International Corporation. Tenacity Solutions has an annual four-day all-inclusive company offsite trip for all employees and a guest. It provides employees with various trainings and social events. Reston Association offers lunch-and-learn educational seminars. Compusearch holds an extensive three-month on-boarding program. All employees can send anonymous questions or suggestions, which are read personally by its CEO. Stanley conducts a two-day training workshop for all supervisors and invites them to talk with investors to encourage building the company. All Ventera employees have a dedicated career coach. This individual is responsible for helping set career development goals and provide feedback through the semiannual review process. HPTi University offers a variety of courses to employees, including leadership programs taught by the CEO. Evans Incorporated offers 52 paid hours a year for employees to use toward external and internal training, and up to $5,250 a year for college courses.

4 Healthy Living Promoting health and wellness goes hand in hand with keeping employees engaged and happy. FMP provides community standing work stations where employees can walk and work on treadmills. Employees at Kearney & Company have the opportunity to purchase fitness and exercise equipment at half the cost, with the company covering the other half. Nation Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) has an on-site fitness center, exercise classes and massage therapy. Tax Analysts provides incentives, such as gift cards, for participating in wellness initiatives. Greenspring created a smoking cessation program to assist in creating a smoke-free environment. Nation Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (NRUCFC) has a wellness seminar on Fridays where fresh fruit is distributed for the employees. CustomInk provides free shoulder and neck massages and serves healthy snacks at the office. A bike rack room is provided to promote alternative commuting and to support those who bike to work. NATEK provides employees with a free gym membership and a health & wellness program. Smartronix reduces employee contribution to health care premiums by $520 per year if they enroll in the company s wellness program.

5 Employee Engagement Winning companies speak of positive cultures that engage and inspire their workforce. Often companies cite their employees as their greatest resources for success. At L-3 Stratis, an employee Engagement Champion is nominated and charged with ensuring that efforts to further employee engagement are effective. The SRA Connects program unifies various communities under a common umbrella and provides a venue for enhancing employee involvement. Through Random Acts of Retention AMERICAN SYSTEMS managers are encouraged to catch employees doing good things. Dimension Data is committed to developing a global performance-based culture that gives autonomy to each location to bring in its own programs to support the company s values. Incadence delivers monthly care packages to each location. Care packages contain employee goodies, ranging from candy, donuts and muffins. If employees are forward deployed, a care package of their favorite item will be sent to them in their current location. At High Performance Technologies (HPTi) learning café, employees can share their knowledge with co-workers. NetImpact Strategies, Inc. sends out a Kudos Bulletin from the CEO to highlight successes and client feedback for specific employees. ICFI encourages employees to take part in various social activities, such as a monthly company-sponsored happy hour where employees are able to network and learn about other groups within the organization.

6 Extra Cash/Benefits Whether or not times are difficult, winning CARE companies will go the extra mile for their employees. ManTech established a special assistance fund that aids employees and their families when they are victims of natural disasters or severe hardships. Dimension Data offers identity protection/monitoring coverage at no cost to all employees because many clients require extensive background checks. CEA offers mortgage assistance up to $25,000 to employees who purchase a home in Arlington County, the city of Alexandria and the District of Columbia. Reston Association provides comprehensive employee benefits for part-time employees, as well as cancer insurance. It provides an Employee Resource Center a place for employees to review benefit information, access online resources and convene for meetings, performance reviews and training. Green Living Many winners are striving to reduce their impact on the environment. Greenspring s Going Green program is dedicated to supporting its employees, residents and local community s environmental issues. FMP s Go Green Get Green program educates and supports staff efforts to be environmentally friendly. NRUCFC opened a brand-new LEED-certified headquarters building in September It features open stairwells to encourage extensive use of natural light.

7 Supporting the Community CARE winners strive to create a CARE-ing community inside and outside of the office. AMERICAN SYSTEMS hosts an annual Carnival Against Cancer where employees bid on a round of golf with the president/ceo, take turns dunking executives and moonbounce for money. All proceeds go directly to charity. Compusearch and FMP have charitable action committees that are chaired and run by employees. All employees can request contributions be made to worthy charities. Greenspring s volunteerism policy offers employees paid time off for qualified volunteerism and matches charitable contributions up to $500 per year per employee. Employees of ManTech and ICFI donate resources and thousands of volunteer hours to hundreds of community organizations, including Fisher House Foundation, Charity Works, Toys for Tots and Adopt-a- Highway. NRUCFC annually supports an adopt-a-family program through employee donations and fundraisers. Military leave is offered to employees at NetImpact Strategies, Inc. with immediate reinstatement without loss of seniority, rate of pay or loss of continuous service status. Cassaday & Company, Inc. created a donor-advised fund where employees can donate directly from their paychecks. All fund donations are matched at 200%.

8 Flexible Work Arrangements Many CARE winners provide telecommuting opportunities, compressed work schedules, and/or commuting assistance. Nearly 30% of ICF International s (ICFI) employees telecommute regularly, and CEA encourages employees to telecommute once a week. NATEK and NetImpact Strategies, Inc. s employees have flexible work hours. Cassaday & Company, Inc. offers early release days during the high-traffic holiday season in Tysons Corner. FMP suggests flexible and part-time work schedules for employees, with telecommuting at least once a month. Tax Analysts permits employees to bring children and pets to work regularly.
