1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Head of Community Fundraising Team/Directorate: Fundraising Salary range/pay band: Reports to: Deputy Director of Fundraising Direct reports: Community Fundraiser (North) Community Fundraiser (South) Interim position - Community Events Fundraiser (Community Fundraising Manager on secondment) Education and Youth Groups Fundraiser Hours: 37.5 Location: Bridge House, Addlestone Job holder: Part 1: Job Profile a) Main purpose of job This post is responsible for overseeing the management and development of all fundraising activity related to SSC s Community Fundraising programme. b) Work relationships The post holder will work closely with and report to the Deputy Director of Fundraising and will also work closely with the following: Community Team Director of Fundraising for Community development focus All Heads of fundraising streams in regular meetings for cross-strand working purposes, sharing of best practice, joint initiatives Heads of Care and Lead Nurses regarding visits to hospices Communications & Marketing team for integrated working, to develop effective promotional collateral and support required for Community activity Head of Finance on management accounts Organisational Management Team Supporter Care Services in order to provide excellent donor care HR to support management and learning and development of team External service providers External sector networks to share knowledge, best practice and enhance innovation External networks to drive future fundraising opportunities

2 c) Decision making authority This post holder will be required to make decisions regarding the implementation of Community Fundraising strategic plans, with responsibility for monitoring team productivity and the achievement of financial and non-financial targets Producing, monitoring and delivering income and expenditure budgets (as agreed with the Deputy Director of Fundraising) The post holder has an expenditure sign-off level of 1,000 d) Scope of job Leadership and line management of the Community team Strategic planning and budgeting Income generation Cross-team working Keeping up to date with sector trends, best practice and policies Part 2: Main duties and key responsibilities Leadership and line management of the Community team - 25% Leading and managing team members effectively using the SSC Appraisal Framework to achieve agreed objectives Creating a positive working environment in which equality and diversity are wellmanaged and staff can do their best Recruitment and induction of new staff Strategic planning and budgeting - 15% Planning, producing and implementing Community strategic plans and budgets to maximise income from this source. This will include recruitment plans for obtaining new supporters, as well as a key focus on supporter retention initiatives and relationship management to develop existing support Supporting and managing team members in producing team plans and budgets Agreeing all plans and budgets with the Deputy Director of Fundraising Income generation - 45% Undertaking key fundraising activity, as agreed with the Deputy Director of Fundraising, leading on identified projects, relationships and partnerships Cross-team working 10% Working collaboratively with HoDs and Deputy Director of Fundraising to support the Communications & Marketing team in delivering SSC campaigns to inspire people to engage with and support the work of Shooting Star Chase Working with the Supporter Care Services Manager to ensure excellent supporter care to existing and new donors Support the Deputy Director of Fundraising in the development of team-wide projects and initiatives Page 2 of 5

3 Promoting and encouraging effective cross-team working, with the Community team proactively contributing to cross-team fundraising activities Contributing to the wider fundraising activities of the organisation working closely and in co-operation with other members of staff Keeping up to date with sector trends, best practice and policies 5% Ensuring compliance with recommendations and regulations related to Community Fundraising activity from regulatory bodies Sourcing and sharing knowledge from the sector Other duties The post holder will be working in a developing environment and they will therefore be expected to undertake other appropriate duties as required for the effective operation of Shooting Star Chase. The post holder will be required to apply for a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check The post holder must be able and willing to get to/work in our office at Addlestone and at both hospices in Hampton and Guildford as required The post holder will need to travel throughout the catchment area of SSC This post holder should be prepared to work / attend meetings and events which may be during early mornings, evenings and weekends Mandatory Criteria 1. Professional Codes of Conduct The post holder will be required to respect professional codes of conduct and practice relevant to their role, as appropriate 2. Health and Safety The post holder will be responsible for health and safety in the area under their control and ensure that they are familiar with SSC s policy on health and safety at work. 3. Mandatory Training The post holder will attend all mandatory training relevant to their role 4. Excellence We will strive for excellence in all that we do. and behaviours Part 3: Person specification: Qualifications, experience and skill levels a) Qualifications 5 GCSEs grades A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (E) Related degree or Fundraising qualification (D) b) Experience Significant and demonstrable experience and a record of achievement in all forms of fundraising activity related to this post (D) Substantial and demonstrable team management experience (E) Significant and demonstrable experience and skills in budget management and delivery (producing, monitoring and achieving income and expenditure budgets) (E) Significant and demonstrable experience in planning and strategic development of all forms of fundraising activity related to this post (D) Knowledge and understanding of best practice, policy and legal issues relating to those forms of fundraising related to this post (E) c) Knowledge and Skills Excellent leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate, empower and encourage others (E) An approach that gives clear direction and inspirational leadership, shows a willingness to learn and develop and seeks to maximise impact and results (E) Excellent communication skills, written and spoken (E) Excellent organisational, planning and project management skills, with the ability to work flexibly, multi-task and adapt to new priorities as required (E) Sector awareness, with good knowledge and understanding of best practice, policy and legal issues as outlined by Fundraising regulatory bodies (E) Page 4 of 5
