MSCA IF 2016: Objectives and modes Enhance the creative and innovative potential of experienced researchers by providing them with opportunities to acquire new knowledge, work on research projects in a European context or outside Europe For fellows from Europe going to Third countries and returning (Duration: months) For fellows coming to or moving within Europe (Duration: months) 8

MSCA - IF 2016: Key Concepts Research Experience Mobility Rule Experienced Researchers (ER): in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience. Criteria to be fulfilled at the deadline of submission: 14/09/2016 Must not have resided or carried out his/her main activity in the country of the host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to 14/09/2016 Specific Rule for 3 multidisciplinary panels: CAR, RI, SE Who and How Country Participation Beneficiaries (recruit, based in MS or AC) / Partner Organisations (secondments + GF outgoing phase) Academic Sector / Non-Academic Sector Member States: 28 + ultraperiferic territories Associated Countries to H2020 (Switzerland included again since the 2015 Call) Third Countries 9

MSCA - IF 2016: Research Experience IF Call finances Experienced researchers (ER) that are in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least 4 years of full-time equivalent research experience. To be fulfilled at the deadline for the submission of proposals: 14/09/2016 MSCA IF covers 100% salary costs: 100% dedication time No upper age or experience limit. Full time equivalent research (FT): is measured from the date when a researcher obtained the degree which would formally entitle him / her to embark on a doctorate, etiher in the country in which the degree was obtained or in the country in which the researcher is recruited. 10

15 II. MSCA IF 2016: GF Duration: months, outgoing phase in a TC + 12 months returning phase in Europe. ER elegible: nationals and long-term residents in MS / AC Mobility from any country to the TC of the outgoing phase Mobility rule to be fulfilled in the TC of the outoing phase Minimum participation: 1 beneficiary in MS / AC (host institution) + 1 Partner Organisation in TC Letter of Commitment from Partner Organisation in TC compulsory 15

16 II. How does it work? Joint preparation: ER and the Host Institution A researcher (ER) can only submit one proposal Bottom-up: 8 scientific panels + 3 Multidisciplinary Panels (CAR + RI + SE). Researcher applies with European host Researcher applies with European host Supported by non- European host (Partner Organisation: P.O) Host signs contract with EC European host signs contract with EC P. 17 II. MSCA IF 2016: some characteristics Individual research project: training-through-research under the direct supervision of the supervisor / key staff of the institution. Hands on training: for developing scientific skills (new techniques, instruments, etc. ) For developing and acquiring transferable skills: Proposal preparation to request funding Patent applications, management of IPR, take up and exploitation of results, entrepreneurship Action management, task coordination, how to properly communicate Intersectoral or interdisciplinary transfer of knowledge (secondments ) Organization of scientific / Training / dissemination events Communication, outreach activities, public engagement Ethical Aspects 17

MSCA IF 2016: secondments Have to take place in a Partner Organisation in a MS / AC Meaningful and appropriate to the type of fellowship and research field Importance of the involvement of the non-academic sector Partner Organisations: no need to include a letter of commitment Clearly justified in Part B (just 1 P.O in Part A) IF Duration 18 months Duration max. secondment 3 months > 18 months 6 months 18

19 II. How to communicate and disseminate your results Outreach Reaching a big audience (presentations at schools, seminars, visits to labs ). Looking for interactive activities. Inform the general public of the benefits / results of the research carried out (Night, EU Open Days, MSCA Ambassadors ) Communication activites Articles in newspapers, journals, TV and radio programmes. Needs a clear language and an attractive scientific topic with results in order to attract the public interest Dissemination and Exploitation results Scientific Papers / Open Access/Industry/ Final Users Have a RRI (responsible research and innovation) approach in your project 19
