For further information regarding YMCA Victoria, please visit Departmental Overview The Engagemnet Team is part of YMCA Victoria s Shared Services. The team provides specialist strategic advice and support, and project management that supports the strategy development for the YMCA through planned internal and external communications activities. The Media Specialist works collectively with other specialist staff within the team in the areas of Media, Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, Advocacy, Online Communications, Internal Communications, Graphic Design and Research. The fundamental role of the Engagement Team is to connect and communicate with the public, YMCA centres and stakeholders and implement our organisational objectives in line with our Vision Our purpose is to strategically drive and influence engagement with the YMCA. The team leads the organisation in three key areas: Brand, Growth, and Charity.

2 Position Summary Classification / Grade: SS7-SS8 Employment Status: Full time permanent Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications may include but not be limited to a Degree in Communications, Public Relations, or Journalism. YMCA Victoria is looking to further increase its profile on issues that relate to its Vision 2020 and goals. It requires an individual with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The successful applicant will have a solid understanding of online and offline media channels and current marketing and communications practices and tools. Key Relationships Position reports to: Direct reports: Communications Manager N/A Key internal relationships: Members of the Enagement Team YMCA sector marketing communications staff Recreational PR and Media Manager and Media Advisor and other staff specialising in media and communications Senior leadership team Advocacy team YMCA national communications group (staff based across Australia) Key external relationships: Key statewide, national and online media/publications Media monitoring supplier Key Deliverables and Accountabilities Proactively seek to develop relationships with key media outlets and journalists relevant to the YMCA s target audiences and organisational goals, specifically around media KPI s relating to Vision 2020 goals and objectives. Lead in the development of organisational media and advocacy strategy for YMCA Victoria, including exploring media partnerships where appropriate. Assist with formulating key messages and training of organisational spokespeople to represent the YMCA in the media. Where required provide organisation-wide media training (i.e. local media or programmatic such as YMCA Youth Parliament Press Gallery) and supporting resources to staff across operations maininting centralised media templates.

3 Oversee media monitoring for YMCA Victoria, distribute media clips to relevant parties, prepare media evaluation reports on campaigns and for the organisation each month. Be proactive in seeking opportunities and delivering stories and key messages across social media and traditional media platforms. Coordinate weekly internal communications publication read by managers across the organisation. Assist with writing, editing and proof-reading of YMCA publications and resources, including e-newsletters and SMS communications using the Traction communications system as required. Work with other YMCA Associations and YMCA Australia where appropriate on shared project and inatiatives. For example, leading YMCA Swimathon national media strategy and execution. Provide advice or manage video production for long-form video content focused on storytelling. Perform other duties as required. Key Challenges This role requires a high level of stakeholder management and the ability to manage expectations and brief staff. Cooperate with the YMCA with regard to caring for the environment, by acting in a sustainable way and minimising YMCA s environmental impact by adhering to the organisations policies, procedures and work practices. To enable the YMCA to meet its obligations for providing a healthy and safe working environment for you, you must inform your Manager of any issues which may impact your ability to safely perform your role. 4 Capabilities and Behaviours Essential Demonstrated abilty to lead the development of media and PR startegy Exceptional communications skills, written and verbal Demonstrated experience in writing, editing and proof-reading Demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and deadlines Personal initiative and commitment to a high-quality product The ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and work in a communication focused team environment A high level of attention to detail A commitment to working in the not-for-profit sector. Knowledge and Experience Essential Working knowledge of current media environment both traditional and new media Demonstrated ability to identify positive news opportunities and pitch stories to the media Demonstrated experience in working with media and journalists and achieving media outcomes Familiarity with MS Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and familiarity with SharePoint A minimum of three years experience in a relevant media and PR role. Desirable Knowledge of marketing systems Experience in advocacy campaigns. Qualifications and / or Licences Qualifications may include but not be limited to a Degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism and/or similar experience. Conditions of Employment The successful applicant will be subject to a Police Records Check. The successful applicant will hold a current Working with Children Check. The position holds a SS7-SS8 status.
