1 Job Summary Production Manager (Studios) Responsible to: Technical Director Salary: Terms: 32,946 per annum plus overtime for Sundays, Bank Holidays and overnight calls (between 11pm and 9am). This is a 12 month fixed term contract. The Production Manager (Studios) will be required to work flexible hours. The minimum hours are 35 per week, normal office hours are 10:00-18:00 Monday- Friday, but you will be required to work such hours as may be necessary to carry out your duties properly. Benefits include: Contributory pension scheme; season ticket loan scheme; training and development opportunities. Holiday: 25 days per annum pro rata, rising by one day for each full financial year worked to a maximum of days per annum can be specified as annual leave by Young Vic management. Probationary period: 3 months

2 Notice period: 2 weeks during probationary period, 3 months thereafter This role works across the following three departments to help deliver the programs scheduled in our studio spaces and external venues. The Production Department: The purpose of the Production Department is to create and run to the highest standards all the technical aspects of the Young Vic s productions and related projects, in partnerships with directors, designers and project leaders. The aim is to help creative teams achieve their artistic vision within the agreed timescales and budgets to the highest possible standards. The Taking Part Department: The Taking Part Department provides schemes which develop a love of theatre, nurture creativity and promote closer links between the Young Vic and the local community. This includes running a variety of workshops and projects, and producing shows, all in response to the Young Vic programme. The Directors Program: The Directors Program provides positive and proactive support for young directors by offering a range of opportunities to help them develop their craft. This includes workshops, research and development

3 opportunities and the chance to assist on Main House productions and make work.

4 Job Description Production Manager (Studios) Responsible to: Technical Director Key Objective: To deliver specific productions and projects allocated to you by the Technical Director to the highest standard within the parameters and resources set by the Artistic Director and Executive Director. In collaboration with Young Vic Producers, Director of Taking Part, Associate Artistic Director and creative teams ensure the most effective use of resources in the realisation of all production and technical elements of these productions at the Young Vic and other venues. To be the lead Production Department contact for the life of the studios, and the shows, events, and other activities that take place within them ensuring all are planned, supervised and delivered to the highest standard. Key Responsibilities: Departmental Responsibilities: To actively contribute to the effective operation of the Production Department s work.

5 To work with the Technical Director and HODs in the effective planning and management of Production Department operations, particularly in relation to all shows and events in the Studios. To attend production HOD meetings and lead discussions on all shows, events, and other matters relating to the Studios. To be the production department point of contact for the wider organisation for all matters relating to the Studios. To keep up to date with forthcoming shows, events, workshops and other activities in the Studios and ensure plans are in place to set up the space for each user. To ensure that all production operations are carried out in compliance with relevant and applicable Health & Safety legislation and any other applicable statutory regulations or legislation. To remain current with industry best practice and applicable technologies. To attend, and contribute to Update, Production Tracking and Alternative Tracking Health & Safety group and other regular meetings. To continually seek out opportunities to adapt our working practices to make things better for team members and incoming creative teams.

6 Production Responsibilities: To work with the Producers, Associate Artistic Director, Director of Taking Part and Technical Director on initial planning and costings of allocated productions and projects. To work with the creative teams and Producers of allocated productions to realise the production within allocated resources. To ensure that resources and parameters are clearly defined and agreed with creative teams, Producers and Production HODs. To carry out an assessment at the white card model and final design stages to ensure that the design does not exceed the agreed parameters, and to collaboratively find ways to bring any overshoot back within the parameters. To generate accurate budget forecasts in conjunction with Young Vic production staff and outside contractors. To produce risk assessments and other relevant Health & Safety paperwork as appropriate. To ensure that designs and all aspects of the productions comply with Health & Safety and other applicable legislation.

7 To plan construction in the Young Vic workshops in conjunction with the Head of Stage and Workshop Manager, taking into account the requirements of other productions in the schedule. To engage and manage external contractors to deliver elements of productions as required. To monitor expenditure and production progress on allocated productions and communicate any areas of concern in a timely fashion. To plan the use of technical resources in conjunction with the Heads of Lighting, Sound, Stage & Costume. To plan and manage, in conjunction with the HODs and production team, fit ups, production periods and get outs for allocated productions. To call and chair production meetings for allocated productions. On occasion to provide production support for the work of other departments, including the Development, Marketing and Press Departments. To ensure our productions are delivered in a positive, collaborative and professional manner. To act as a point of contact, support and information for incoming freelance PMs on studio shows and other projects. To liaise with the Company Manager and Technical Director on the recruitment of stage management teams for productions and projects in the Maria and Clare.

8 Taking Part (TP) and Directors Programme (DP) Responsibilities: To attend the weekly TP update meeting and act as a conduit of information between the TP, DP and Production departments. To plan, organise and run the Backstage Pass workshops. To ensure provision of production and technical support for TP and DP workshops and activities. To be responsible for the TP store and maintenance and upkeep of TP production resources. General: Any other reasonable duties required to assist the Production Department or the Young Vic operation as a whole. To be familiar with and be personally responsible for acting within the Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety Policies of the Young Vic. To actively participate in and support the work experience programme of the Young Vic. To be an active and supportive member of the Young Vic staff team.

9 To provide the highest level of customer and audience care and service at all times whilst a member of the Young Vic staff team. To participate in departmental administrative and HR systems as required. To actively seek out and help implement improvements in the way we work. To ensure the backstage areas of the Clare and Maria studios are kept in a safe and presentable state at all times. You may be required to work offsite on Young Vic projects away from the building. Freelance Work Periods of unpaid leave may be requested to undertake external freelance work and may only be taken with the written agreement of the Technical Director.

10 Person Specification Production Manager (Studios) Essential Skills Prior experience of coordinating professional theatre projects and delivering them to the highest artistic and technical level. A good knowledge of production and technical techniques including stage, construction, rigging, lighting, sound and projection. The ability to demonstrate excellent technical and financial control. Proven project management, organisational and time management skills. The ability to lead a project in a calm, clear and professional manner. The ability to nurture the skills of individuals under their supervision. Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and procedures as related to the theatre industry and proven experience of implementing these legislative requirements in a positive and sympathetic manner. Computer literate, fluent in the use of MS Office applications. An interest in and enthusiasm for theatre.

11 Ability to work well within a small dedicated production team. Ability to work with and support all other departments. An ability to remain, calm, professional and positive when working under pressure. Desirable Skills CAD drafting skills (AutoCAD) Production Management experience Health & Safety qualification or training Full clean driving licence First aid training.
