1 Job Description JOB TITLE: Lead Learning Mentor GRADE/SALARY: 23,457-24,882 HOURS: RESPONSIBLE TO: Normally 37 hours per week, commensurate on completing the duties associated with the post. Lead Learning Mentor JOB PURPOSE: a) To line manage a group of Learning Mentors ensuring HR processes are followed. Ensuring a high standard of delivery and quality across the Learning Mentor team. b) This role will plan and deliver group tutorials ensuring that a range of personal, social and employment skills/ knowledge are developed. Monitor attendance for tutorial groups and drive high expectations and aspirations for students. c) The post holder will be expected to deal with a variety of safeguarding cases (including child protection) and liaise with external support agencies representing the College confidently. d) This role will focus on developing and supporting students on a wide range of pastoral issues and will involve working with a variety of support agencies. The role plays a key part in supporting student attendance, retention and success rates. e) Central to this position is the need to deliver key initiatives and projects that enhance the overall student journey and student experience. In addition, the post holder will lead the delivery of student engagement activities which will involve working closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. MAIN DUTIES Line manage the learning mentor team. Conduct probation meetings, appraisals and one to one s in line with HR processes. Plan lunchtime and enrichment activities for your designated Hub. Ensure the Hub is maintained to a good standard and is welcoming and engaging to learners. Deliver 2-3 group tutorials a day covering a range of personal, social, employment skills and raising awareness of welfare topics. 1

2 Support the cross college tutorial process by sharing best practice with Lead Personal Tutors and update tutorial resources regularly to ensure that they are accurate and current. Develop strong relationships with curriculum in order to foster an environment that supports a proactive approach to student welfare and to provide comprehensive information, advice and guidance to staff and students. To support a diverse range of students and to act as a mentor to identified students whilst on programme. Effectively manage child protection and Prevent referrals within Barnfield College in a timely manner. To act as a Safeguarding Officer and support and/or advise staff on procedures. To keep accurate records of all safeguarding and wellbeing concerns and actions taken Work closely with the Student Services and curriculum areas to support activities and events that support students develop and build on employability skills. To assist and signpost students effectively and efficiently to enable them to access specialist support services where appropriate. To support the student disciplinary procedures as and when necessary. Developing relevant promotional material for students. Prepare, attend and present detailed information at case conferences and multi-agency meetings in order to contribute to professional discussions. Take responsibility for keeping up to date on student related issues at both a local, regional and national level in order to lead on delivery of training to staff around key welfare and safeguarding themes (e.g. FGM, CSE and Prevent). Fully participate and contribute to professional discussions at weekly safeguarding supervision meetings, encouraging the sharing of good practice in order to continually improve on support processes and practices within the College. To maintain accurate, up to date and comprehensive records on the designated system providing at risk data reports for appropriate meetings and make informed recommendations to line manager. Develop stronger links with external support agencies by developing and arranging multi agency work on campus. Work closely with staff to develop a culture of zero tolerance towards anti-social behaviour including bullying, swearing, physical and emotional abuse. Lead on the proactive monitoring of student attendance and identify efficiently and effectively students in need of intervention and take proactive action where necessary liaising with the students personal tutor. 2

3 To work as a team to ensure student attendance is consistently monitored and actioned in accordance with the attendance and punctuality policy. Manage and lead on student voice within the College, supporting and developing a proactive and responsive Student Partnership Council and Student Reps system so that student voice is fully represented at all levels Proactively lead on specific student related projects. To plan and implement cross-college events and information campaigns for students. To lead on and manage a variety of cross College activities/events within budget that support student personal development, behaviour and welfare. Produce and manage a variety of enrichment activities that are engaging and fun, ensuring that the impact on the students is evidenced and adds value to an outstanding student experience. Lead on and increase student participation at social activities and events and lead on the management of student sponsored activities. To contribute to the selection, induction and mentoring of new staff. Fully contribute to the College Self-Assessment (SAR) process. Contribute to the production and supply of support and risk assessment processes in line with data sharing protocols with partner agencies. GENERAL DUTIES The post holder will be required to: Perform any other duties as may be reasonably requested by the Principal. Participate in appraisal and professional development as appropriate. THIS JOB DESCRIPTION IS SUBJECT TO NEGOTIATION WITH THE POSTHOLDER, AND TO REVIEW Person Specification The following essential qualifications, qualities, skills and experience are considered necessary in this key post. The essential criteria will be assessed in the following ways. A application, T test, I Interview. Essential: Level 3 in IAG or willingness to work towards gaining qualification within 18 months of commencement of employment A Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths or commitment to gaining within 12 months of commencement of employment -A Level 3 Safeguarding qualification commitment to gaining within the first 9 months of employment A Experience of tackling difficult issues using the appropriate response and resources. 6 General Terms and Conditions Salary: Tenure: Hours: Annual Leave: Probation: Notice Period: Pension: Staff Development: This post is offered on a permanent basis. 37 hours per week, on an all year contract. Pro-rata 29 days annual leave per year plus 8 days bank and public holidays on a pro rata basis. The college will award a non-contractual 3-5 efficiency days per annum. Confirmation of appointment will be subject to satisfactory completion of nine months probationary period. The notice period for this post is one month. Support staff are eligible to join the Local Government Pension Scheme. Staff are required to participate in reasonable arrangements for further training and development. 6
