1 Reconciliation Action Plan

2 Message from Reconciliation Australia Reconciliation Australia congratulates ABB Australia Pty Limited on the launch of their first Reconciliation Action Plan. The RAP outlines the start of your journey, commitment and contribution to reconciliation. The partnership between ABB Australia and LBF Consulting in developing your Indigenous Employment Strategy is a great initiative - and something Reconciliation Australia commends. It is important to see more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples employed in the workforce and that ABB are seeking to recruit more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talent. As an international organisation that provides power and automation technologies to many countries across the globe, the implementation of ABB Australia s RAP is a great achievement and will be wide-reaching. Congratulations once again on the launch of your RAP. Reconciliation Australia looks forward to supporting and strengthening your commitments to reconciliation. 4 A message from our CEO Firstly I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land throughout Australia; land in which we operate our businesses, work, live and enjoy the comforts of everyday life. As a global leader in power and automation technologies, employing 145,000 people across 100 countries, we understand what it means to provide a workplace that is culturally safe. We encourage individualism, value difference and understand that culture forms part of everything we do at ABB. Our vision for this strategy is about providing meaningful opportunities for the many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living and working in Australia. Our action plan will focus on three key areas: to build strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and businesses; cultivate a deeper understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and contemporary issues; and increase Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation through employment and procurement opportunities. We know that our key focus areas will need much more than just a plan. Our commitment to developing this strategy has involved many dedicated individuals who volunteered their time to contribute and attend cultural training sessions and focus groups across the business. I am immensely proud to be a part of this journey and to present our inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan for 2013 to Axel Kuhr CEO, ABB Australia 5 Reconciliation Action Plan ABB Australia

5 Our vision Our vision for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australia is simple. Improve the living standards and provide greater opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across the diverse communities in which ABB operates. Underpinning this vision is a strong commitment to do business with, and/or find opportunities to employ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander talent. ABB recognises that a diverse and talented workforce is a key competitive advantage. As a truly global company, our business success reflects the quality and skill of our people. We understand the cultural intricacies needed to do business across 100 different countries and recognise the importance of supporting and partnering with first peoples as part of this cultural mix. ABB s Reconciliation Action Plan is not only the right thing to do for the growth and success of our business, it is the right thing to do for the growth and prosperity of all Australians. 7 Reconciliation Action Plan ABB recognises that a diverse and talented workforce is a key competitive advantage. Our business is driven by three guiding principles - Respect, Responsibility and Determination. These principles recognise and reinforce, amongst other things, the celebration of differences; being open to other cultures and seeing all ABB employees as equals; showing fairness and honesty and earning respect by respecting others. To ABB, inclusiveness means a workplace in which diversity is welcomed, respected and valued. Developing a Reconciliation Action Plan was a natural evolution for ABB Australia considering the work we do across both the urban and rural environment and the important role we play in developing key infrastructure for Australia. The development of our RAP was championed at the highest levels within the organisation, including the CEO, the head of Human Resources and our senior business managers. The initial working group that developed the RAP consisted of senior members of the ABB management team and other representatives from across the business who are passionate about this journey.
