The success and expansion of our meals service has led to an exciting new opportunity for a Catering Officer. Reporting to the Catering Operations Manager, you will assist in the overall management and supervision of the catering function. The successful applicant will have a proven track record in managing a multi-site catering operation and broad experience of all areas of staff management including recruitment, training and performance management of a geographically dispersed team. Experience of conducting food safety audits with an up to date knowledge of all areas of HACCP and current food safety legislation, possession of a minimum REHIS Intermediate Food Hygiene certificate or equivalent, together with a strong business acumen and experience of managing food budgetary controls, purchasing, production planning and stock control are all essential requirements for the role. 3 Job Description POST: RESPONSIBLE TO: LOCATION: extensive CATERING OFFICER Catering Manager Headquarters, New Mart Road, Edinburgh (national)* (please note this is a national based post with travel throughout Scotland required)* Purpose of Job: To assume responsibility for catering operations across the association under the direction of the Catering Manager to ensure a consistent, cost efficient service is delivered throughout adhering to all relevant food safety laws and regulations. To ensure that all developments are providing nutritious, well balanced meals to tenants and service users, ensuring all cultural and specific dietary requirements are catered for. To carry out food safety audits, devise remedial actions and issue developments with food safety audit reports. Provide support, guidance, training and management to geographically dispersed catering staff. Main Duties & Activities: 1. Assume responsibility for the adherence of the Association s Food Safety Management system within developments. Update the Associations Critical Control Points / house rules as required. 2. Carry out food safety audits in each of our food providing developments. Advise developments on remedial actions from the audits and follow up where necessary. 3. Where necessary liaise with the relevant local authorities food safety department and Environmental Health Officers. 4. Maintain an up to date knowledge of and communicate relevant legislative and good practice changes relating to catering and nutritional issues to staff. 5. Consult with the Health and Safety Advisor on matters relating to the health and safety of kitchen equipment, materials and environments.

4 6. Ensure developments are providing appropriate and nutritious diets to all tenants and service users. Assist developments in menu planning whilst operating within food budgets. 7. Assist development s food budget controls through providing advice and guidance on effective stock ordering, menu planning and waste controls. 8. Assist developments in the recruitment, training and line management of all dedicated catering staff. 9. Monitor all non-food and catering related spend, highlighting any concerns to the Catering Manager. 10. Authorise requests from developments for small catering related equipment. Provide guidance to developments on the purchasing of all small equipment items ensuring they are fit for purpose and are durable. 11. Where required work with the association s Development Team and provide guidance and assistance on kitchen expansions or refurbishments. 12. Assist in the setting up of new or expanding meals services within the association. Carry out meals evaluations and recommend areas where food services can be extended. 13. Support developments during periods of remodelling works, ensuring that there is minimal disruption to the meals service and to tenants. 14. Undertake tenant consultation and use the findings to advise developments on any alterations required to their meals service. 15. Assist development based staff with any tenant related matters in connection with the meals service 16. Where required, represent the Catering Manager at both internal and external meetings and provide the required feedback. 17. Maintain an active approach and responsibility for professional development including attendance at relevant learning and development events. 18. Undertake any other duties within the scope of the role as required and directed by the Catering Manager. Reporting Arrangements: The post is a distinct professional specialist role within the organisation and carries out a large range of variable tasks at a professional and specialist level under the direction of the Catering Manager who will set out the broad work priorities within regular planning meetings. However the postholder is required to take forward the bulk of work to a conclusion on own initiative and manage workload timescales appropriately on a day to day basis.

5 Scope to carry out tasks largely within the parameters of set policy, guidelines and agreed priorities, although recognising that there is significant scope for original input, creativity and judgement leading to the delivery of set targets, priorities and improved service.

6 PERSON PROFILE AND SPECIFICATION: Skills & Abilities: Experience of managing a multi site or large catering operation. Experience of managing budgets. Well developed IT skills and experience in the use of a range of Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Confident communicator and able to operate with credibility, both verbally and written, as a professional adviser in areas of knowledge and technical expertise. Able to manage own workload Ability to work under own initiative Excellent verbal and written presentation skills with high attention to detail and accuracy. Experience of managing, developing and monitoring the successful delivery of projects. Experience of carrying out food safety audits and the management of remedial action plans. Education, Qualifications, Training & Development: Possession of a relevant tertiary education qualification at degree level in a relevant professional or technical discipline backed by professional experience in a similar role. Alternatively, able to demonstrate significant professional experience backed by a strong record of training and personal development in a similar role. Hold a relevant food related qualification, a minimum of REHIS Food Hygiene Intermediate or equivalent Full current UK driving licence Satisfactory PVG check Corporate membership of a relevant professional institution. A demonstrable commitment to continuing professional development.
