You will work collaboratively and in partnership with your peers, directors and trustees and will work closely with staff across Mind. You will also work with other stakeholders and external contacts. You will have a significant level of responsibility and autonomy in a senior leadership role. You will deputise for the director internally and/or externally. Specifically, the post is responsible for: Coordinating the operational management of Mind Cymru Coordinating the implementation of Mind s strategy and its annual business plan in Wales Managing the involvement of staff and managers from corporate departments in the development and delivery of Mind s work in Wales Deputising for the Director of Mind Cymru Ensuring the active involvement of Mind Cymru staff in the work of Mind s corporate departments, and ensuring close working relationships between Mind Cymru and these departments Mind aims to ensure that the needs and interests of mental health service users, women, black and minority ethnic communities, disabled people, lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender and people of all ages are reflected in all its activities. You are expected to contribute to this aim.

2 Key responsibilities 1. To deputise for the Director of Mind Cymru internally and externally, including providing out of office cover, being on call and dealing with emergencies. You will be an ambassador, spokesperson and representative of Mind as required at events and in the media, leading effective communication about Mind Cymru s work and ensuring this is aligned to other organisational communication. 2. To assist the Director of Mind Cymru to achieve Mind s mission, vision, values and strategic objectives in Wales. This includes planning, organising and taking accountability for Mind Cymru s operational performance. 3. To be an active member of the Mind Management Team, manage relationships with key Heads of Corporate Departments, and agree with them the key deliverables required for the achievement of Mind s targets in Wales. To also ensure the active involvement of Mind Cymru staff in the work of corporate departments 4. Lead and develop effective working relationships with all staff and stakeholders and create a culture of co-operation, flexibility and adaptability to achieve Mind s strategic objectives and in accordance with Mind s commitment to a mentally healthy workplace 5. To lead and develop Mind Cymru operations to meet Mind s goals in Wales. This will include formulating Mind Cymru s and cross organisational work programmes, projects and plans, policies, procedures, objectives and outcomes. This includes regularly monitoring, reviewing, evaluating, developing and reporting on performance. 6. To actively contribute to Mind s strategic and corporate objectives including working with central Mind and Mind Retail while actively developing the work and relationship with Local Mind network in Wales 7. To lead on financial and budget management for Mind Cymru and other designated programmes and projects in Wales, regularly assessing and managing problems and risks to Mind Cymru and to develop a range of possible solutions and responses. Leading on the effective planning, management and use of Mind s resources. This includes workforce, financial, office space and other resources, adhering to relevant legal and statutory requirements including the Data Protection Act, Health and Safety at Work Act and relevant charity law. 8. To provide strong leadership and line management to staff including appraisals, supervisions, team meetings, delegating, managing, engaging, developing and supporting staff to be the best they can be and to achieve Mind s strategic objectives and in accordance with Mind s commitment to a mentally healthy workplace. To attend and contribute to the overall supervision and appraisal process in Wales attending meetings, training, and other events as required. 9. To prepare papers, reports and presentations for internal and external meetings including Mind Management Team meetings, executive team, trustee and Pwyllgor meetings. To attend and contribute to other meetings, briefings, reviews, due diligence, auditing and compliance activities.

Proactively and regularly monitor, review and evaluate your own, the team and the department priorities, objectives and performance and impact against objectives, targets and budgets to ensure that they remain relevant and effective for Mind providing regular updates and reports as directed 11. To make decisions on a wide range of policy and strategy matters which influence the effectiveness of Mind Cymru and which are appropriately informed and made in accordance with Mind s approach 12. Take the lead in ensuring the views of people with experience of mental health problems inform and guide Mind s work in Wales in line with Mind s commitments to engage with people with lived experience of mental health. 13. Lead Mind Cymru to provide excellent customer services internally and externally, championing effective and highest levels of customer care and as necessary develop and introduce new standards of customer care and customer service levels. 14. Keep abreast of external trends and developments and changing circumstances in mental health and related health fields to influence health policy and legislation and provide strategic direction and leadership, including work with the Welsh Government, Wales NHS, Local Health Boards, strategic networks, collaborations with other national organisations, and academics in order to develop and maintain contacts with other MH and associated organisations, LHB s, Wales NHS and to negotiate and influence on complex and significant issues 15. 4 Mind Person specification: Head of Operations (Wales) (Grade G) Essential criteria Experience 1. Significant senior managerial experience of planning, organising, controlling, managing, developing and directing strategic and operational activities including multi-disciplinary areas of work which are complex and/or diverse and of delivering outcomes against agreed objectives 2. Demonstrable senior management level experience of financial and budget planning, monitoring evaluation, reporting and management 3. Demonstrable senior management experience in programme and project management and of providing leadership and management of a team, section or department including line management of direct reports. 4. Significant experience of managing performance, monitoring and evaluation including developing and delivering quality improvement 5. Proven track record of contributing to corporate and cross organisational business strategy and operations management 6. Demonstrable influencing and negotiating skills and political judgement with proven success in building productive professional relationships and partnerships with a wide range of individuals and organisations 7. Experience of working collaboratively and in partnership with individuals, groups, organisations and other internal and external stakeholders. 8. Demonstrable commitment to your own continuing professional and personal development 9. Demonstrable knowledge of Welsh Government policy and legislative procedures and the relationship to UK legislative and parliamentary procedures 10. Demonstrable understanding of the Welsh language, the requirements of the Welsh Language Act, and its implications for Mind, local Minds and funders with evidence of working in a bilingual environment. A commitment to ensuring that Mind complies with the spirit and detail of its Welsh Language Scheme across England and Wales Skills 1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including writing senior and complex correspondence, reports, policies, strategy papers presentations, network and work effectively with internal and external staff and stakeholders at all levels 2. Proven ability to act as a spokesperson for the organisation 3. Proven interpersonal and influencing skills including being able to manage relationships with confidence, make decisions, negotiate, give feedback, persuade, influence, network, work effectively and manage a range of internal and external stakeholder relationships 4. Excellent IT skills including use of Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, etc. 5. Outstanding self-management skills to work independently, autonomously and as part of a team, using own initiative and being flexible and adaptable 6.
