1 Digital and Social Media Coordinator Position description Position overview The Digital and Social Media Coordinator in the newly established Respect Victoria will be responsible for leading and establishing innovative and comprehensive digital and social media engagement to address the drivers of family violence and violence against women with the community, and lead effective social and digital interventions and engagement. Working with internal and external stakeholders, and reporting to the Manager, Communications and Engagement, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating effective social media and digital strategies, initiatives and tasks. This includes establish relevant systems, processes and products, including working across all of Respect Victoria s social media channels (including Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and new channels), and Respect Victoria s website, to plan, create and publish engaging and relevant social media content in line with the agency s mandate. As a story teller you will actively engage with and build Respect Victoria s online community, reporting on social media listening and activity and staying up to date with the latest social media tools, trends and research. You will work closely with the Research and Evaluation team at Respect Victoria and key internal and external stakeholders, to ensure interventions are evidence based and effective in driving long-term cultural change. Organisational environment Respect Victoria Respect Victoria is a new organisation, established as a Statutory Authority under the Prevention of Family Violence Act 2018 (the Act) on 4 October Respect Victoria, by its establishment fulfils Recommendation 188 of the Royal Commission into Family Violence. Respect Victoria will deliver on the commitments legislated in the Act and the objectives outlined in Free from Violence: Victoria s strategy to prevent family violence and all forms of violence against women. Respect Victoria is governed and lead by a skills-based Board and CEO. Respect Victoria is focused on the prevention of all forms of family violence for all Victorians. No matter their gender, age, sexuality or cultural background. Prevention means stopping violence before it starts, by changing the culture that allows it to happen. Respect Victoria provides leadership in the prevention of all forms of family violence and violence against women, through advice on policy and program reform to improve the way Government, organisations and the community prevent family violence. This includes setting standards, building and testing outcomes, advising government on the suitability of funding, and communicating, raising awareness, and engaging with the community on family violence prevention. Respect Victoria s key functions, as outlined in the 2018 are to: Provide advice to the Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence to assist in policy and decision making, and the suitability of funding for family violence prevention programs Monitor, assess and endorse programs carried out by organisations, and support organisations with advice, information and support Promote awareness in the community of programs, activities and campaigns, including behavioural change campaigns and the Victoria against Violence campaign. Undertake, procure, and disseminate research Report on trends in family violence prevention. More information on Respect Victoria is available at Communications and Engagement Function The key responsibilities of the Communication and Engagement function include the establishment and delivery of critical whole of state and targeted communications, campaigns and engagement in prevention of family violence and violence against women. This includes strategic internal and external communications and marketing, brand management, public relations, media and social media engagement, community awareness and behaviour change campaigns, publications, strategic stakeholder engagement and events. The Communications and Engagement team works closely with the Research and Evaluation team to ensure the effective alignment of research initiatives and application of evidence-based research outcomes in all communications initiatives in order to address the drivers of family violence and violence against women, and effect long term social change based on other successful social change and prevention efforts. Accountabilities Support the development, build and management of Respect Victoria s social media and communications strategy, editorial plan and social media guidelines to establish best-practice, in consultation with management, executive and the Board. Support strategic campaign and priority initiatives with Respect Victoria s social media platform to engage the community. Provide expert advice, knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective Position Description Digital and Social Media Coordinator 2

3 participants, as well as understanding how to implement distinctive content specific channel strategies, to improve social media outcomes, including increasing website visits, community engagement, and Respect Victoria s brand awareness. Collaborate with stakeholders (internal and external) and work with other members of Respect Victoria to develop and deliver engaging and strategic social content and strategies, employing best practice tools and techniques, in compliance with whole-of-victorian Government guidelines. Proactively monitor and build social channels and escalate emerging issues of concern and suggest strategies to resolve. Oversee compliance and delivery of services against the contract between the agency and supplier, including oversight of the budget and undertaking any reporting requirements. Contribute to long-term planning and alignment of communications policy and strategy with key performance indicators and outcomes in relation to the prevention of family violence and violence against women, including evaluating and assessing measures, reporting on interventions and engagement, and building and adapting innovative approaches over time. Work flexibly as required to provide overflow and peak period assistance to the broader organisation, taking reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and Respect Victoria s occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures. Qualifications A tertiary qualification/s in communications, writing, digital media, marketing or another related discipline, or equivalent experience, would be desirable. Specialist expertise Demonstrated experience in creating content for social media channels. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in gender equality, diversity and inclusion, primary prevention and/or family violence will be highly regarded.
