1 Queensland HLT37215 Certificate III in Pathology Collection

2 This work placement skill observation record is used to provide evidence of at least 35 hours of pathology collection work under the supervision of a person currently working in a phlebotomist role for at least 18 hours per fortnight. You will be required to follow established technical, infection control and safety procedures. As a requirement of HLTPAT002 Perform venous blood collections you must perform venous collection on 20 different people in total during your training and work placement periods. Your LTT assessor will you visit you during your work placement to observe you perform 5 collections. You also need to demonstrate skills developed/acquired from, HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures, HLTPAT004 Collect pathology specimens other than blood and HLTPAT003. Perform capillary blood collections during your work placement to meet the requirements of competency. Venous blood collection techniques should be performed using the following collection method: Evacuated systems Winged infusion sets and / or needle and syringe Overview of skills needs to be developed and demonstrated in workplace healthcare setting: Problem solving skills Clinical skills in pathology and drug screening specimen collection Interpersonal skills Time management skills Your responsibilities Work within your scope Comply with organisation s policy and procedure If unsure about any procedures, always seek assistance of your workplace Perform work activities under the supervision of workplace supervisor Remember it is up to you to take the initiative and get the most out of your work placement Submit this completed record to your LTT trainer Instructions for supervising Phlebotomist As part of the assessment for HLT37215 Certificate III in Pathology Collection, the Candidate is required to complete a work placement under the supervision of a person currently working in a phlebotomist role for at least 18 hours per fortnight. LTT requests that the supervising Phlebotomist assist by observing the candidate perform the tasks listed and completing the work placement record checklist. LTT values the Referee s contribution and ask them to provide the evidence honestly. LTT recommends that you have a short discussion with the Candidate about the each task before completing the work placement record.
