1 Northern Tasmanian Natural Resource Management Association POSITION DESCRIPTION Position Title: Location: Chief Executive Officer Launceston Award / Classification: Reports To: Salaried Full-time Position for up to 3 years, subject to funding The Management Committee of Position Objective: The CEO will lead and provide oversight to all aspects of s corporate objectives, programs, staff, partnerships and communications. Key Result Areas: Vision and Strategy Develop strategies focusing on sustainability into the future that give meaning to and its stakeholders Provide Strategic vision and direction to expand s business and capacity to broker investments that align with the Northern Tasmanian Natural Resource Management Strategy. Develop and implement corporate and business strategies to ensure efficient integration of programmes, resources and systems across the organisation. Oversee the implementation and ongoing review of the Northern Tasmanian NRM Strategy and supporting strategies. Develop, implement and monitor the organisations corporate goals, objectives and outcomes. Establish and communicate s purpose, vision, values and goals. 2 Evaluate controls to mitigate strategic risks and leverage newly identified opportunities. Lead, manage and motivate managers, staff and partners to create an environment of excellence. Ensure effective management of delegated functions under the Natural Resource Management Act. Business Efficiency and Effectiveness Manage s resources and operations in an efficient and effective manner, in regards to both internal and external service provision Ensure effective management of the organisations financial systems including budgeting, recording, reporting and audit. Proactively lead a culture of strong customer service, including monitoring and responding to customer complaints. 3 Community Engagement, Development and Well-Being Establish and maintain effective relationships with community groups and members, gaining an understanding of the relevant issues and priorities for the region Maintain the profile of NRM in the community. Ensure s initiatives and activities meet the needs of the community. Community consultation programs are initiated, conducted and analysed for strategic planning, emergency management and policy development/review Address public meetings in a constructive and positive manner to enhance NRM North s reputation Develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of appropriate media organisations to positively promote and communicate s activities and initiatives. Relationship with Management Committee Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the Management Committee Provide competent and professional advice to the Management Committee. Regularly and formally report to the Management Committee on the progress of current initiatives, potential projects, committees and operational outcomes. Assist with the development and review of services and practices, by developing strategies, policies and plans that ensure decision making is in the best interest of. Timely and accurate advice is provided to the Management Committee, to ensure they are equipped to make informed decisions. Stakeholder Engagement Establish and maintain effective relationships with community service providers/organisations, educational institutions, government agencies, business groups and customers. Effectively represent the organisation s best interests in dealings with the community, government, industry and all other potential Natural Resource Management stakeholders. Maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders, including all Association members. Apply all necessary mediums to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders the role, function and activities of. Represent the region s interests in statewide and national processes relevant to NRM issues. Represent at meetings and events to maintain and enhance the profile and reputation of within the community and with stakeholders. ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: Reports to: Management Committee, on a day-to-day basis as represented by the Chairman, but the position is expected to work autonomously to meet performance targets set by the Management Committee. Supervises: Corporate Services staff and Regional Operations, Partnerships and Community Engagement managers. Internal Liaisons: External Liaisons: Business Development: Financial: Audit and Finance sub-committee, Governance and Policy subcommittee, Management Committee members, staff. External auditors, Associations members, Federal, State and Local Government Agencies and Representatives, Industry and Community Groups Contribute to maintaining and increasing organisational growth and performance targets consistent with the Corporate Plan Responsible for expenditure within the annual budget. 5 ORGANISATIONAL CONTEXT: The Northern Tasmanian Natural Resource Management Association () is one of three formally recognised regional natural resource management bodies in Tasmania and one of fifty-six in Australia. was established in March 2003 through a community-driven process in response to the Tasmania Government s Natural Resource Management Framework and its enabling legislation, the Tasmanian Natural Resource Management Act 2002 (2009 Amendments). is a regional organisation that draws together the collective aspirations and actions for the natural assets of the area defined as Northern Tasmania. brings people, organisations, information and investment together to ensure that regional priorities drive the management of our natural resources to get the best environmental, social and economic outcomes for the region. has statutory functions under the Tasmanian Natural Resource Management Act with respect to integrated natural resource management. There is a member management committee which is responsible for controlling and managing the business affairs of, setting and monitoring the strategic direction of the organisation, ensuring that as an organisation meets all required areas of compliance. There is also a team of professionals who support the management committee and work with the community of Northern Tasmanian to support them in the management of the region s natural resources. Person Specification / Selection Criteria: The successful applicant will be an experienced, highly motivated self starter who will value working within a team environment. He or she will enjoy working on multiple tasks within very tight time-frames, and thrive on developing solutions for a complex environment. He or she will be sensitive to political and community issues regarding natural resource management in Tasmania and will have an understanding of the philosophical principles of non-government organisations. Has demonstrated experience in natural resource management (NRM) practices and is passionate and strongly committed to promoting the profile of in the community Ability to deliver best practice programs, achieve milestones and targets and delivery tangible outcomes Is a genuine, personable leader who truly inspires and engages with management and staff along with the ability to relate to a broad variety of stakeholder groups Exercises good time management, judgment, demonstrating loyalty, honesty and high integrity with a broad understanding of effective governance and management Has a demonstrated ability to work with a Board/Management Committee and understands the complexities that this can involve Has the ability to think strategically and collaboratively to lead the organisation to achieve its vision, empowering management and staff Has strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write concise reports and speak in public forums Page 5 of 6
