5 OUTDOOR EDUCATION TRAINEE Position Description Purpose Position Descriptions are written statements that clearly describe the duties or task to be undertaken, including responsibilities of a particular job. The position description may also include information about working conditions, tools, equipment used, knowledge and skills needed possible relationships with other positions and health and safety requirements of the position and the organisation in general. The Position Description is to be used as a reference document when assessing the workplace health and safety conditions at the worksite/s. Trainee Name: Host Employer: Position: Manager/Supervisor: Field Officer: Date PD issued: Duties of position The Trainee will gain experience working with students from ELC to Year 12 VCE. The Trainee will provide support in expanding the Outdoor Education programme and in the management of outdoor experiences. The Trainee will be required to attend camps, excursions and incursions; and be responsible for follow-up procedures including the washing, maintenance and storing of equipment as well as the booking of facilities, services, buses and equipment. Tasks involved The Outdoor Education Trainee will be responsible for: Assist with the organisation and coordination of the Outdoor Education programmes at the College. Attend camps and excursions and assist teaching staff with the operations of these events. Assist the Physical Education staff with the set-up, conduct and clean-up of practical classes. Liaise with Head of Health and Physical Education (HAPE) to ensure an accurate inventory of all outdoor education equipment is maintained. Take responsibility for the cleaning and general maintenance of equipment and facilities used as part of the Outdoor Education programme. Assist the Head of HAPE and other staff in developing Operations Manuals for all outdoor education experiences. Maintain photographic and written records of all outdoor educational experiences. Produce and distribute to staff, students and parents a term, monthly and weekly Outdoor education calendar. Assist Head of HAPE in conducting reviews of all outdoor experiences via surveys and interviews. Liaise with the College Sick bay to ensure all first aid supplies are maintained to a legally acceptable standard. Assist Head of HAPE and other staff members in writing up trip reports for the College newsletter. Complete administration for all outdoor education experiences including collection of permission forms, compilation of medical records handbook and distribution of Operations manuals. Complete administrative tasks at the College including equipment hire agreements, invoicing of hire fees (provide information to Accountant), bus bookings, lunchtime equipment borrowing, reconciling outdoor education equipment orders and maintaining records of each camp. Other tasks as directed by the Head of HAPE. Page 1 of 2

Tasks involved The Physical Education Trainee will be responsible for: The maintenance and auditing of sports equipment and to identify equipment to be repaired or replaced. The preparation and return of equipment and first aid kits for each sports afternoon The preparation of gyms/venues for each sports afternoon (move furniture, erect poles and nets as required etc.) Ensure that the sports store room and equipment is maintained in a neat and orderly fashion Follow up staff/ students with messages and information Assistance and attendance with carnivals (e.g. time keeper at House and EISM Swimming Carnivals) Assistance and attendance with School Camps Sports administration e.g. creation of fixtures and update ladders; submit competition results.
