1 Ohio Statewide Independent Living Council (OSILC) Position Announcement Position Title: Executive Director Reports To: Governing Board FLSA Status: Exempt Duties and Responsibilities Under the direction of the Governing Board, the Executive Director is responsible for the administration and coordination of all Statewide Independent Living Council (SILC) activities, including policy and program development, leadership and oversight of SILC legislative and advocacy efforts, membership recruitment, public relations as well as management of SILC staff, budget, and activities. General Management Oversight of all SILC meetings Management of SILC staff Prepare and submit timely reports, recommendation, and updates Maintain collaborative and cooperative relationships Develop, schedule, and plan an annual orientation to new Board members and ongoing training to all members, as needed Program Management Monitor compliance with grants, contracts, regulations and Statewide Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) including the preparation of performance reports and the maintenance of appropriate records Organize the development and implementation of the three-year Statewide Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) Develop a strategic plan which incorporates the goals and objectives that work toward the direction of the SILC Develop and implement an annual timeline of required activities related to the SPIL Prepare meeting agendas and material for Council meetings Draft policies for the approval of the Council and review existing policies on an annual basis Ensure the mission of the organization is reflected in all program planning, implementation and evaluation Demonstrate creativity, leadership and initiative in carrying out assigned tasks Research and promote program expansion through grant proposals from government, foundation and other private entities Ensure that contracts, grants and services accepted by the SILC contribute to the mission and reflect the priorities of the Council Oversee the planning, implementation, execution and evaluation of special projects Identify the need for and coordinate all aspects of public meetings addressing independent living

2 Human Resources Management Determine staffing needs for the organization and appropriate service delivery Recruit, interview and select staff that have the right skills to help further the SILC s mission Ensure all staff receive appropriate training Manage staff of the SILC so that each person contributes effectively to SILC s mission. Develop and implement a performance process that includes monitoring staff on an on-going basis and conducting annual performance reviews Finance and Resource Management Ensure that a comprehensive budget and subsequent budgetary updates are developed annually and presented to the Board for review and approval. Ensure sound bookkeeping and accounting procedures are followed Serve as a Fiscal Agent and administer funds per grantor guidelines Develop and maintain financial management systems, including but not limited to: tracking, recording and managing all revenue and expenses; reconciling bank statements; reimbursing Council members for travel and other allowable expenses associated with Council meetings and approved activities Public Relations and Systems Change Provide support and participation in community awareness, public education, systems advocacy and outreach activities Confer with state and federal legislators, Independent Living (IL) organizations and other disability organizations to exchange information, interpret laws, regulations and policies, and build a common agenda Maximize the cooperation, coordination and working relationships among the Centers for Independent Living (CILs)/ Ohio Abilities Network (OAN), the Council, and other Independent Living organizations or disability entities Responsible for developing and maintaining appropriate communication and public relations tools and efforts including maintaining the web site and publishing the annual report of SILC Develop and distribute information and educational materials Work in conjunction with Ohio Abilities Network (OAN) to develop positions and strategy on key advocacy issues that impact consumers

3 QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor s Degree preferred Five years of work experience in a nonprofit or with a disability-associated organization Executive Director experience preferred Strong financial management skills Demonstrated knowledge of the Independent Living Philosophy Demonstrated experience with facilitation of diverse group Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to establish personal transportation for in and out of town travel Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Strong working knowledge of data collection software, and Microsoft Office Products Self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal direction and as a collaborative team member that embraces multiple perspectives Capacity to organize and prioritize multiple projects, while meeting deadlines Must be flexible with the daily work schedule, including occasional evening hours and overnight travel Application Deadline April 11, 2017 How to apply- Please your résumé, cover letter, three professional references and your salary requirements to ohiosilc1@gmail.com or mail to The Ability Center- Attn: OSILC Search Committee, 5605 Monroe Street, Sylvania, Ohio for consideration.
