Closing Date 28 July 2017 Interview Date To be confirmed Job Purpose Lead the delivery of data & systems development services and new capabilities tailored to business requirements, ensuring the quality, legislative compliance and accessibility of our supporter data Key Result Areas Accountable for the management & development of SDMU s data and systems portfolio, and its alignment with business needs, so that our suite of services is highly effective in supporting delivery of business objectives & the varying needs of all user groups. Accountable for the design and implementation of the quality assurance processes that will deliver excellent services to our supporters whilst maintaining the highest quality across all data sources. Responsible for our compliance with all legislation, licensing & charity regulation relevant to our supporter data holdings and use, so that RSPB is fully compliant and protected against data related legal & reputational risk. Responsible for ensuring that business change projects needing services from SDMU get the right skills and resources from the unit to enable the projects and programmes to succeed.

2 As a Data Steward for the organisation, this role is responsible for ensuring best practice for managing data is developed, implemented and adhered to across the organisation and by all external data suppliers, to mitigate against data related risk and provide excellent customer service to our supporters. Responsible for ensuring problems and incidents within the data management and service delivery functions are resolved appropriately to provide the best customer care and enable projects to fulfil their objectives Responsible for provision and accuracy of the fundraising data which supports the RSPB s monthly and annual reporting cycle, to ensure our performance, forecasting, Saving Nature Scorecard outcomes and external audit requirements can be fulfilled and assessed within required timescales. Responsible for the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of our processing for all critical financial outputs such as our monthly Direct Debit claim, to ensure the continued flow of funds into the organisation from our largest individual income stream. Responsible for the creation and management of the tools to identify if, when and to what level a data breach has occurred in order to fulfil our legal obligations and also our commitment to our supporters to protect the data they have shared with us. Responsible for monitoring & researching the development of new systems and tools within the external data industry and advise how these could be utilised to enhance our Supporter experience. Key Contacts and Working Relationships Internal External Information Systems to jointly resolve data related system issues and implement new programmes of work and system upgrades and maintenance. Corporate & Legal Services to advise, discuss and agree response to data related risk issues Programme & project managers to understand their data requirements; identify solutions to their data needs and to ensure development work is delivered within project timescales. F&C delivery managers to escalate & resolve data related issues from their campaigns or work programmes. Other Data Stewards to effect an enterprise approach to the management, policies and practices surrounding data at the RSPB Digital Production and IT colleagues to collaborate on development of the RSPB website to ensure data requirements are incorporated into fundamental design. Any internal staff requiring expert advice, training or help to resolve supporter data related queries or problems. All external data capture suppliers, to advise on our data formatting requirements, audit their data security compliance, set up new campaigns requiring data import and monitor ongoing performance. Auditors and external regulators, to provide data and information on our data handling protocols, in order to meet any requirements they may make of us e.g. The Gambling Commission, HMRC, ICO etc. Third party system suppliers that support or develop tools to aid our data infrastructure, to integrate their systems, negotiate developments, contract renewals and manage upgrades. Equivalent data specialists in other charities to share best practise and technical expertise in relation to databases and CRM solutions. Commercial software &CRM suppliers to understand the new technologies that are available and how these could be integrated with our data systems Financial Responsibility

3 This role has sign off authority for expenditure through, for example purchase orders. Essential qualifications 1. Degree in data-related specialism, or equivalent experience Essential knowledge 2. Expert knowledge of the principles of data management, batch data processing, scheduling, testing and quality assurance techniques 3. Expert knowledge of all data related legislation, in terms of data protection, HMRC Gift Aid regulation, Direct Debit and PCI compliance 4. Expert knowledge of database and information management software (e.g. SQL Server or Microsoft SharePoint) and database languages (e.g. SQL). 5. Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, SharePoint and Word. 6. Good understanding of project management frameworks and techniques and of a range of development methodologies. Essential skills 7. The ability to manage a team 8. The ability to evaluate and communicate clear, logical solutions to data processing and information management problems 10. Able to build and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external contacts. 11. Self motivated, innovative and able to take the initiative 12. Able to devise and write Sequel scripts to analyse and correct data issues 16. Able to communicate complex technical issues in a simple way to non technical users 17. Extensive experience of managing complex data processing systems within a large organisation 19. Experience of managing projects and project teams 20. Proven experience of leading a data processing unit in a technical support role 21. Experience of prioritising between reactive and planned work 22. Experience of managing working relationships with external suppliers Desirable qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience 23. Good understanding of the RSPB s supporter data processes 24. Experience of acting in the role of Data Steward for an organisation 25. Experience of working with Advanced Business Solutions Care NG, Salesforce, Run My Jobs, & BizTalk or equivalent CRM and job scheduling software. 26. Knowledge of agile development methods such as SCRUM.

Some standby and on-call work will be required. This role will require occasional travel within the UK. This role will require occasional overnight stays away from home.
