DESCRIPTION OF UNDERGRADUATE FINANCE PROGRAM CURRICULUM CLASS 2011 The FINANCE undergraduate program curriculum has been designed to be aligned with CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge which is accepted and applied by investment professionals around the world without eliminating PMBS core courses. During the 4-year program, the curriculum consistently and gradually includes four aspects of finance expertise: ethics and general business, accounting and quantitative methods, finance theory, and research. The curriculum of undergraduate business program is divided into three major courses. They are: Ethics and General Business Courses, Tools: Accounting and Quantitative Methods Courses, and Finance Courses. Finance Courses consists of Basic and Specific Finance Courses. Ethics and general business courses which characterize Prasetiya Mulya values will be offered in constant proportion throughout the 4-year program. Accounting and statistics courses will be given primarily during the first and second year to make sure students fully prepared to take finance courses which require a lot of quantitative skills and deep understanding of accounting principles. During these first two years, basic finance courses such as corporate finance, investment, and bank management will also be introduced. Finally, students will conclude the program in the last year by conducting an in-depth research on a specific finance, investment, or banking topic. B. OBJECTIVES The curriculum blends theoretical fundamentals and practical applications to fulfill the 4 (four) objectives: 1. To encourage more intense interaction among students and Faculty Member 2. To encourage learning process and emphasize the implementation of financial management concept 3. To encourage learning process which build value and attitude accepted not only in financial industry community, but also in family and society environment 4. To encourage learning process with international atmosphere 1

COURSE DESCRIPTION FBEC 5201 BUSINESS COMMUNICATION 1 In this course, students will learn how to communicate in English. Cases and situations will be presented and students will be expected to discuss, negotiate and solve problems. This course will be conducted in English. a. To introduce students to English as it is used in business situations. b. To develop students confidence in communicating using the four skills in English. c. To lay the foundations for further skills work in the language FBEC 5202 READING AND WRITING This course discusses critical knowledge for using Indonesian language as one of important communication means. Give the fact that the language is dynamic; it requires better skills to know the proper ways to use it. a. To be able to recognize the common mistakes in using Indonesian language b. To be able to communicate ideas effectively in writing c. 6 FEKN 5201 INTRODUCTORY ECONOMICS This course introduces the students to the concepts and theories of economics. The foundation provides a general knowledge of markets and how they function in our economy system. a) To transform the knowledge of economics foundation to students combined with hands-on experience from best practices. b) To understand the basic relation of economics to practical fields c) Students are able to comprehend the issues stated in media: kompas and business Indonesia newspapers Basic Concepts; Microeconomics: Supply, Demand, and Product Markets; Factor Markets: Labor, Land, and Capital; Applied Microeconomics: International Trade, Government, and the Environment; Macroeconomics: Economic Growth and Business Cycles; Economic Growth and Macroeconomic Policy; Unemployment, Inflation, and Economic Policy FOPR 5201 BUSINESS MATHEMATICS This introductory mathematics course is specifically designed for students of business and management. In this course students will be exposed to and practiced with the use of logical and quantitative reasoning in making rational decisions in the context of business. The emphasis of this course is on the development of a sound mathematical model. 1. To get a better understanding of mathematical concepts and tools for business decision problems. 2. To get equipped with the ability of conceptually modeling business problems and solving them mathematically. This course also gives students an understanding in civil rights as the basic concept of nationalism, which focuses on civil rights in relations with civil liberties. a. Business world has changed significantly due to the revolution in communication, information, transportation, operations technology, globalization and free trade. Recently, the business competition has increased tremendously, and it will increase more in the near future. Business managers and entrepreneurs are forced to develop creative ways to win business competition. Business 7

Use the concepts to make business decisions FAKI 5201 INTRODUCTORY FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING This course introduces students with the concepts and theories that are fundamental to the use of accounting in business. Business transactions could be very dynamic, but the fundamental concepts of accounting theories remain the same. Therefore, it is important for students to understand deeply the fundamental accounting concepts in order to prepare, analyze and interpret corporate financial statements. a. Understand the basic financial accounting principles and the accounting cycle. b. Prepare general purposes financial statements and understand the relationships between the statements. c. Prepare and analyze financial statements, especially for service and merchandising companies. d. Understand the basic recording concepts of major accounts related to financial statements, such as cash, receivables, long-lived assets, payables and stockholders equity. 9 FGEN 5201 PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT This course is structured to help students develop appropriate mind-set and prepare them for the business study in Prasetiya Mulya. Also develop attitudes directed towards professionalism and personal skills needed to be future business champion. The areas to be developed refer to 5-Dimensions for S1 Prasetiya Mulya Students : analytical ability, personal maturity, communication skill, interpersonal relationship, and achievement in oriented to business. This course also contains projects, workshops and activities designed to help students experience the skills in real situations. Students are asked to reflect the experience and learn from it to develop their own personal growth. The class will be handled by the Student Affairs Division Team, with psychological and human resource management background. Guest lecturer and other speakers will be invited to share knowledge and experience in some workshops. FFIN INTRODUCTION TO CAPITAL MARKETS This introductory course offers an overview of what a capital market is and how an investor may use the various capital market instruments for investment opportunities and to diversify risk. FEKN 5202 MICROECONOMICS This course discusses economic concepts in the level of the customer, firm, and individual market place. It is to build the fundamental understanding as to how markets operate. a. To build fundamental, conceptual thinking through the frameworks of Microeconomics theories. b. To develop analytical skill by employing Microeconomics models in approaching, identifying, explaining, and constructing conclusions for basic managerial problems. Thinking like an economist; Comparative advantage: the basis for exchange; Supply and demand: an introduction; Efficiency and exchange; Demand: the benefit side of the market; Elasticity; Perfectly competitive supply: the cost side; The quest for profit and the invisible hand; Monopoly and other forms of imperfect competition; Thinking strategically; The economics of information; Externalities and property rights; Environment, health and safety; Public goods; Labor markets and the distribution of income; International trade. FOPR 5203 INTRODUCTORY STATISTICS Introductory statistics is a basic course in statistical reasoning and analysis, and the foundation for statistical decision making. 10

To Conduct hypothesis tests for one and two means and proportions using small and large samples FGEN 5103 CIVILIZATION OF PLURALISM In this course, students will learn to develop student s understanding in ideology of Pancasila as an open ideology and it s values to increase their national identity as a basic of understanding in an importance of local genius in a sustainable development. This course also gives students an understanding in globalization issues, likes clash of social based on economy and religion different, the urgency of pluralism and tolerance to develop a civil society in Indonesia. a. 12 FAKI5301 INTRODUCTORY MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING This course introduces students with the concepts and theories of managerial accounting. Specifically, this course will emphasize the use of accounting information in planning and controlling a business and in supporting management decisions. Since goods and services produced by different companies vary substantially, there is no one accounting system or alternative superior to others. Therefore, it is important for students to understand not only the system of collecting, organizing, processing and reporting economic data using different accounting systems, but also the logic behind different alternatives chosen. Understand how economic information being used in order to design an accounting system to collect and report the information needed. Understand the techniques and methods developed in management accounting, especially the logic behind those methods. Prepare managerial accounting reports using different techniques and methods developed in management accounting. Understand how accounting system works in order to use the reports appropriately. Cost behavior and forecasting; Cost-volume-profit analysis; Decision analysis; capital budgeting; Cost application and allocation systems; Variable, throughput and activity-based costing; Budget preparation and variance analysis; Segment reporting and performance evaluation FFIN FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT 1 The ultimate goal of financial management is to maximize the market value of the owner s equity without ignoring legal and ethical business practices. This first part of Financial Management course introduces students to the principles of financial management from the operation s point of view. 12

13 Some topics which will be explored include Risk and Return Analysis, Time Value of Money and Discounted Cash Flows, Introduction to Cost of Capital, Capital Budgeting, Cash and Receivable Management, Leasing and Long Term Financial Planning and Growth. FGEN 5501 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (1) This course aims to make students understand the concept of company and environment as one entity. As the business growth, the companies are responsible to the environment as their stakeholder and develop their community welfare. This course intends that the students be able to develop a project to increase the community welfare. a. To make students aware of the community needs b. To generate and organize social activity for the community welfare FBEC 5204 BUSINESS COMMUNICATION 3 In this course, students will learn how to communicate in English. Cases and situations will be presented and students will be expected to discuss, negotiate and solve problems. This course will be conducted in English. a. To develop students ability to communicate in English in a variety of business settings. b. To develop students confidence in communicating using speaking, listening, reading and writing skills in English. FEKN 5203 MACROECONOMICS This course introduces students on how the aspects of various macroeconomics work. Students will examine how consumer and business practices affect and are affected by the current and future condition of Indonesia, and also look for the future 13

14 as well. Students will analyze how the government's monetary, fiscal, and trade policies affect, and are affected by macroeconomic conditions. a. 15 FFIN FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT 2 This second part of Financial Management course introduces students to the principles of financial management from the financing and investment s point of view. Some topics which will be explored include Capital Structure, Raising Capital (Equity, IPO, Bonds and Bonds Offering, Bank Loan and Loan Proposal), Capital Budgeting, and Capital Rationing, as well as the issues of Mergers and Acquisitions. FFIN 5303 TAXATION This course provides the understanding in and application of taxation in Indonesia. a. To provide an overview of tax law in Indonesia b. To provide the skills of tax management c. To be able to calculate the taxable income and payment Basic principle of taxation; Tax categories and differences; Regional tax and regional retributions; General rules, terms, and definition; Tax collection; the subject and object of tax; Tax institutions; Tax dispute settlement; Tax investigation FGEN 5104 RELIGIOUS STUDIES This course introduces the students to the different perspective of moral from each religion in Indonesia. This course aims to teach students on how religious set of mind is applied to business and management. a. To learn about different perspective of moral and ethics from each religion b. To be able to apply the moral and ethics in society and business 15

16 FMJN 5403 LEADERSHIP This course introduces students about leadership and group dynamics. Students will develop how to be a leader, practice the communication skills, work in groups, and strengthen the sense of community. a. To understand the concept of leadership and team work b. To enhance the ability to work effectively in groups c. To recognize how leadership skills are developed d. FMJN 5301 HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT Managing human capital in the new economy is a challenge for all business professionals. This course introduces students to HRM basic aspects, both from theoretical point of view as well as its practical application. Students will learn not only from books, cases and internet, but will also discuss real life issues 16

17 such as factors affecting employee motivation and performance, effective versus ineffective selection tools, problems of performance appraisal, legal aspects of HRM practices etc, through their Real Business Activities. During this semester, student will run their real business under BSTA 5501 Small Business Project subject, whereas this course has relation with that subject. The project assignment will be based on the student activity in their real business. a. Understand the basic concepts of Human Resource Management (HRM) b. It is the very reason a business exists. Therefore, it is vital for business students to have a basic understanding of how the operations department functions and the interface between the operations department and the other departments of a business. The primary objective of this course is to equip you with analytical tools, concepts and techniques required to solve business problems pertaining to Operation of a firm. In addition, this course seeks to develop your skills in constructing 17

18 conceptual frameworks to solve the problems of an organization in the existing business environment. a. To understand the concept of operations management b. To understand how operation functions contribute the accomplishment of corporate strategy Capacity management; Facility location, design and layout; Cycle time management; Material requirements planning; Supply chain and logistics management; Forecasting; Quality management; Manufacturing; Just-in-time operations; Timebased competition FFIN INVESTMENT This course will develop techniques to value financial assets which have two properties: characteristics extend across time and payoffs depend upon the resolution of uncertainty. The topics will cover the Notions of Investment, The Essence of Financial System, Financial Securities (Money Market Securities, Fixed Income Securities, Equity Securities, Derivative Securities), as well as Markets and Market Structure. FAKI FINANCIAL STATEMENT ANALYSIS The course will focus on analyzing a company financial report, more specifically companies that are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The topics will cover various techniques of financial statement analysis This course required students to apply their studies into analytical thinking process, creating a comprehensive financial statement analysis report and get an insight from various sectors of industries by attending the presentation of their fellow students. 18

19 FFIN INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMETRICS In this econometrics course the economics theory, statistics, mathematics, and research philosophy are blended to measure economic relationships. Students learn to define research problem, construct a logical system of behavior or model to achieve the research objective and use a sample data to test the hypothesis proposed by the economic model. Topics which will be covered include Least Squares Regression Theory, Multiple Least Squares Regression, Correlation, Distribution Theory and Hypothesis Testing, Problems Encountered in Econometrics such as Multicollinearity, Heteroscedasticity and Autocorrelation, as well as the topic of Time in Regression. FMKT 5301 MARKETING MANAGEMENT This course introduces students to the broad discipline of marketing. It encompasses marketing s role in a dynamic business environment and introduces students to concepts and strategies employed by marketer in facing the challenges presented by the ever-changing world of business. The aim of the course is to provide student with the conceptual skills necessary to identify and solve marketing problems. This course provides a foundation for those students seeking to pursue further study in marketing; however it covers broad scope of marketing for those students undertaking only one marketing course. a. Explain the key concept upon which the practice of marketing is based b. Recognize these concepts in the market place and everyday life c. Appreciate of the role and influence of marketing in the organizational environment. d. Develop an understanding of how key concepts can be used in analyzing a range of marketing problems. 19

20 Managing marketing resources; Managing marketing mix and other strategic considerations; Setting the right structure and system for marketing; Organization culture and marketing; Entrepreneurship and marketing; International dimensions of marketing; Marketing, ethics, and social responsibility; Evaluating of marketing performance FBEC 5205 BUSINESS COMMUNICATION 5 The course will focus on Business Writing, Presentation and Introduction to IELTS II. The topics will cover varieties of business writings such as; formal letter, interoffice memo, e- mail and reports and emphasize on preparing and planning presentation, do presentation, and taking notes in a meeting. The course will also include further introduction of IELTS. Several quizzes would be held during the class sessions. Both quizzes and assignments are combined making 20% of total student marks Upon the completion of this course, students are expected to understand and to be capable of writing business letters in various business context. Students will be able to give a presentation based on a business report they have prepared. In additiion they will be able to hold meetings, and write up the minutes of meetings. The second half of the semester the course will focus on Introduction to IELTS II. Students through this course will have a better knowledge of all formats in the IELTS test and the 4 skills ( Listening, Reading, Speaking & Writing ). FFIN Business Valuation This course is designed to provide an introduction to the concepts of business valuation or security analysis. The class will focus on the fundamental aspect of analysis by introducing students with the concepts of intrinsic value and going into 20

21 considerable details in how to measure this intrinsic value by applying corporate or entity valuation model. Each student will be asked to conduct a valuation project of a certain public company. FAKI INTERMEDIATE FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING This course is continuation of Financial Accounting course, which is being a prerequisite of thic course. The topics which will be covered include banking products, bank performance measurement analysis, bank liquidity management, banking regulations as well problem loans and banking crisis. The course will also acquaint students with the international requirements of implementing BASEL III in the banking industry. It will also explain the role of Indonesian Banking Architecture (API) as a comprehensive basic framework for the Indonesian banking system which outlines the direction and structure of the banking industry for the next five to ten years. FFIN PERSONAL FINANCE In this course, students will study various topics in individual financing decisions such as the development of personal financial goals, determination of personal income sources, and identification of saving and consumer spending patterns. FMJN 5402 CORPORATE RESPONSIBILTY AND ETHICS This course introduces student the theories of business responsibility from multi-disciplinary and managerial perspective. The course provides a blend of descriptive information and empirical analysis to understanding recent economic development in Indonesia. Theoretical analysis forms an essential part of the course and requires knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics. Students will work with actual macroeconomic data to get sense what is going on in Indonesia's economic development. FIPP 5206 IELTS PROFICIENCY PREPARATION I In this course, Students will learn how to prepare themselves effectively to face the various aspects of the International English Testing System (IELTSTM) Objectives: To familiarize students with the four (4) skills in English, Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking Skills. To lay the foundations for taking the IELTSTM test. To develop Students confidence in Communicating using the fours (4) skills in English. FFIN DERIVATIVES SECURITIES This course provides more advanced topics of options, futures and other derivative securities. The course will focus on the theories explaining the level of interest rates and the mathematics of bond pricing. FMJN 5404 DECISION ANALYSIS Decision analysis has the ultimate aim of helping decision makers with real-world choices. This course introduces students to the theory and practice of decision analysis. The course will focus on enhancing student s ability in the four skills (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking) of the International English Language Testing System and thus prepare them to be able to deal with the various aspects of language in the test format. The course challenges the students to progress in the 4 skills in IELTS test (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking),. FFIN ASSET MANAGEMENT This course is for students who are interested to learn about the process of managing investment portfolios. Students will learn portfolio management from the perspectives of real life applications. We will examine the process of portfolio construction starting from understanding investor s expectations and their risk profile and continues the discussion with the process of selecting the appropriate asset selection and allocation for the investor. The course will be completed with a discussion on portfolios performance measurement. Student will also learn equity and fixed income analysis in more detail as practiced in the capital market industry.
