1 Equality Objectives 2016 Objective 1 To continue to close the achievement gaps between protected groups. Directors and Managers to develop and implement specific annual action points based on the achievement gaps seen in individual curriculum areas between protected groups which are identified within the each Curriculum areas Self-Assessment Report (SAR). An improvement in achievement gaps shown at individual directorate level, working towards a parity of learner outcomes between protected groups (disability, age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion or belief, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, civil partnership and marriage). 1.1 Continue to enable and encourage Directors and Managers to monitor learners by equality and diversity performance data so that they systematically monitor for widening achievement gaps at directorate level. 1.2 Directors and Managers to scrutinise their equality and diversity data to identify achievement gaps which are found in Self- Assessment Reports (SAR). 1.3 Specific targeted action points found in directorates Quality Improvement Plans (QIP s) are set. The targets and actions are implemented and reviewed in order to address any potential widening gaps. 1.4 Directors and Curriculum Managers to identify individual members of staff who need or request support in advancing Equality and Diversity and access to a Professional Development Coach (PDC) and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) support for them. 1.5 Directors and Managers to develop the Curriculum in order to attract under represented group. 1.6 Produce and publish timely data to meet the requirements of the Equality Act (2010). 1.7 Continue to share College policies with employers and sub contracted providers in order to raise awareness through appointed College Work Based Learning staff and the Quality Monitor. 1.8 Provide a curriculum that is able to support underrepresented groups (including pre and post 16 Engage provision). 1.9 Work Based Learning staff and the Quality Monitor inform and support sub contracted provision and employers with strategies to close achievement gaps between protected groups Provide college free meals for those who require it Monitor and support looked after children Monitor and support children who are Carers Monitor and support learners who receive a bursary.

3 Objective 2 To continue to collect monitoring information for learners, applicants for employment, staff and other partners, and actively recruit and positively respond to any underrepresented groups. To collect, publish and utilise equality monitoring information so that we can improve our understanding of the staff and learner profile, check that sections of the community who are our potential customers regard us favourably and better meet support needs. Equality information is collected in a systematic way and to a sufficient degree that enables benchmarking so that strategies can be developed. 2.1 During conduct surveys and meetings with partners to ascertain the attitude towards, and recommendation of, groups from amongst the communities concerned. 2.2 The learner voice and complaints are recorded and actioned. 2.3 Increase the application and recruitment from staff from underrepresented to reflect local population percentiles. 2.4 Increase enrolment of apprentices from underrepresented groups to reflect local population percentiles. 2.5 Increase enrolment from underrepresented groups over the life of the Equality Objectives. 2.6 Ensure all marketing literature contains images which positively promotes protected characteristics and fosters relationships between protected groups. 2.7 To capture, monitor, develop and analyse data for subcontracted provision. 4 Objective 3 Promote Equality and Diversity through the curriculum. To further develop more innovative practice in the delivery of Equality and Diversity within the learning environment. To develop mechanisms through which to share good practice across all areas of teaching, learning, and assessment. To further facilitate and encourage links with the community in teaching sessions both to explore and to model issues of Equality and Diversity. Continued advancing of equality into the curriculum. Measure of success is that during observations, learning walks, assessments and individual learner reviews to ensure that everyone upholds and embeds Equality and Diversity. 3.1 Further staff development within teams and also bespoke CPD sessions in departments which are delivered by PDCs and deliver a minimum of two events a year which promote equality and diversity. 3.2 PDCs to support individual staff members who have been identified by Curriculum Managers or Directors of the Curriculum. 3.3 All curriculum areas will promote equality and diversity relevant to their subject areas and work based setting. 3.4 Cascade/share good practice and ideas through CPD events and one to one support. 3.5 Use on line learning to promote and educate staff including new staff, learners and other partners in the promotion of equality and diversity. 3.6 To plan further staff development sessions with specialists and invited guests from the community. 3.7 Learners individual learning plans include equality and diversity and Safeguarding features. 3.8 Ensure all language and imagery used within lessons positively promotes protected characteristic and fosters relationships between protected groups. 3.9 All full time year olds learners will experience tutorial actively which promotes equality and diversity. 5 Objective 4 Staff contribute positively to the ethos of an inclusive College. All staff have knowledge of specific equality and diversity initiative such as the Single Equality Scheme. All staff are made aware of the existence of Equalities duties and their roles to support this. Staff are confident in making informed judgements about Equalities issues and feel able to appraise, challenge or report inappropriate behaviour. Staff are empowered to offer respect to individuals leading to excellent customer service. Staff make good judgements about the need to intervene in situations. Equality related complaints are eliminated. The College ensures that all stakeholders have suitable access to meet legislation. The College ensures that legislation is followed. 4.1 Managers are responsible for ensuring that all their staff have undertaken and completed 100% of the equality and diversity online training and any updates on legislation. 4.2 All staff complete an on-line refresher course in equality and diversity every two years. 4.3 All new staff complete the equality and diversity and safeguarding on-line training within their first month of employment. 4.4 Equality and diversity training sessions appear on development day programmes/staff conferences and team training events. 4.5 All Directors and Managers have an agenda item on equality and diversity at their regular meetings. 4.6 Single Equality Scheme is published on the College website, and reviewed annually for all to view. 4.7 Consider and follow guidance measures available access meet legislation. 4.8 The College updates all equality and safeguarding and other related policies in line with legislation for all to access. Objective 5 Partners promote and celebrate the ethos of an inclusive college. All partners are aware of the inclusive ethos of the College through a wide range of activities which prove equality and diversity and inclusiveness.

Recognise the features of stereotyping, bullying and harassment and take steps to prevent this within the college community. The college policy and procedure demonstrates: 5.1 All learners are aware and follow guidelines regarding anti bullying, linked to stereotyping harassment. 5.2 All staff, learners and partners have training or information about promoting and celebrating Equality and Diversity. 5.3 The college provides suitable forum / facilities for all and underrepresented groups. 5.4 Individual support guidance and information is provided for all. 5.5 Publicity materials promote positive images which are fully inclusive. 7 Objective 6 Ensure that teams are trained in Prevent and that it is incorporated into the curriculum in order to keep them safe from all forms of extremism and radicalisation. The college community are aware of Prevent agenda that the college must follow by law. The college will uphold this law through a wide range of activities that will keep all safe from all forms of radicalisation and extremism. The college will be aware of radicalisation and extremism and will remain safe. The college community will be trained in recognising all forms of extremism and radicalisation and will know the steps to take in order to identify and report any stakeholders who are in danger. Members and individuals within the college community will feel empowered to report and act upon any forms of radicalisation or extremism within the guidelines laid down by the College. The college community are aware of the College guidelines in connection with the Prevent agenda. The College Policy and Procedure demonstrates: 6.1 All learners are aware and follow guidelines regarding radicalisation and extremism. 6.2 staff, students and partners have training or information about following the Prevent agenda. 6.3 The College provides clear steps to protect and report and stakeholders at risk of extremism and or radicalisation. 6.4 The college produces and action plan that records and tracks progress against the Prevent agenda. 6.5 Individual support guidance and information is provided for all. 6.6 On line training is available to all in order to educate all Partners about the Prevent duty within college. 6.7 All teams to incorporate the Prevent agenda into the curriculum. Objective 7 Promote and celebrate the positive values of being a citizen in modern Britain by proactively embracing democracy, tolerance, respect, and following rules of the law. Fundamental British values will be promoted with learners, staff, and all other partners.

8 All staff are aware of the inclusive ethos of the College through a wide range of activities which promote fundamental British Values. The college community naturally promotes British Values through their behaviour and views. Lectures, partners and learners recognise the features of tolerance, democracy, respect and following the rules of the law as part of their college life and as a citizen of modern Britain. The college upholds British Values through the day to day management drawing on the expertise of internal and external stakeholders. This is an extensive list that includes the Human Resources department, awarding body, guidelines, governors direction and the management and support of learning. Learner s, partners and lecturers feel empowered to report and act upon any form of behaviour, process or rule that does not uphold British Values within the guidelines laid down by the College. The college is aware of the College guidelines in connection with British Values: 7.1 All learners are aware and follow guidelines regarding British Values. 7.2 All staff have training or information about promoting and celebrating British Values. 7.3 The College provides up to date information, rules and processes for academic and support systems to promote British Values. 7.4 The college provides a behaviour policy that promotes British Values. 7.5 Individual support guidance and information is provided for all. 7.6 Publicity materials promote positive images which promote British Values.
