1 JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Location: Department: Hours: Tenure: Grade: Salary: Senior Events Officer Llandaff Campus Marketing and External Relations 37 hours per week Permanent 6AB 34,189-38,460 per annum This job description is indicative, not prescriptive, and the balance of duties will be in accordance with the contract of employment. Role Summary: This is a key post that will contribute to the ambitions of the University s new Strategic Plan 2017/ /23. The post holder will play a proactive and professional role in the Marketing and External Relations department overseeing and directing the events team to deliver high quality events on behalf of the university. The post holder will be responsible for a small team charged with the planning and delivery of a range of events from small stakeholder engagement events and dinners, public lecture series, launch events to large and complex student recruitment events that attract thousands of visitors. The post holder must possess excellent interpersonal, written, communication, negotiation and organisational skills, and display a high level of initiative in order to deliver effectively in this key role. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Overseeing a small events team to ensure effective planning, organisation and on-the-day delivery of a wide range of events throughout the year. This will include public lectures, student recruitment events such as open days, local community events, stakeholder engagement events / visits, and staff engagement activities.

2 Responsibility for overseeing the team on a day to day basis to ensure professional delivery and an excellent visitor experience on all events. Providing input to the strategic direction and objectives of all university events, ensuring they fit within the overall vision of the institution, and ensuring that the attendees, the nature and details of the event, and the briefing and key messages given to speakers all reflect these objectives. Liaise with key internal departments and services to ensure effective use of resources and quality delivery across all event elements. Work with relevant colleagues within the department on promotion and publicity of events, e.g. through media relations, print and online material, invitations, social media, etc. Monitor an annual events budget to ensure cost-effective delivery. Produce timely and detailed event briefings for all relevant staff, including senior staff, supporting colleagues and visitors (where appropriate). Advise colleagues across the University in a consultancy capacity, so that events not directly managed by the central events team are consistently high quality. Review and evaluate regularly all events to ensure all are delivered effectively and are relevant and in line with the strategic vision of the university. Experience of using an events based management system.
