POSITION DESCRIPTION TEAM LEADER CORPS/CENTRE/DEPT: SAILSS DIVISION: THQ Social Disability Services REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator (Brisbane) / Assistant Manager(Darling Downs) DIRECT REPORTS: Lifestyle Workers & Lifestyle Workers (Personal Plan Facilitators ) PURPOSE: To provide leadership in ensuring the delivery of a comprehensive service that is client focused and reflective of current practices and service delivery models. To develop a supportive relationship with the consumers and their support staff that enables clients to enjoy a caring, healthy and stimulating environment where individual people have the opportunity to experience fulfilled lives, which is in line with TSA values and mission. ARMY MISSION STATEMENT: The Salvation Army is an international movement and an evangelical branch of the Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible and its ministry is motivated by love of God. The mission is both spiritual and practical, encompassing the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the alleviation of human suffering and distress without discrimination. SAILSS MISSION STATEMENT: To provide a quality service reflecting Christian values that support people with disabilities, as individuals, to live in their own homes, become part of their community and develop a network of family and friends. The primary target group of the service is people with an intellectual disability. 2 DUTIES Program Delivery 1. Ensure leadership, guidance and support to Lifestyle Worker staff and community access workers, 2. Problem solving, to achieve best practice operations with a culture of caring for the individual through a client focussed and person centred-based framework, which is aligned to the values and mission of TSA. 3. Identify and communicate to the Coordinator systematic gaps in service delivery, which assists in policy/procedure/guidelines updates and development within this area. EXPECTATIONS Evidence of contribution to the continuous improvement of activities, plans and programs which deliver a client oriented service that are aligned to the values and mission of TSA. Collaborate with Lifestyle Workers and provide support to implement individual plans and update regularly in collaboration with clients and other team members. Collaborate with Plan Facilitator s and ensure that competent practices are maintained when dealing with the clients financial resources, negotiating their budget and expenditure to minimise risk. Regular meetings with Lifestyle Workers to review client s needs and work through problem situations. Evidence of skills development and assistance provided to Lifestyle workers to meet their individual and team responsibilities. Lifestyle Workers under supervision clearly understand their roles and performance outcomes required. Appropriate training measures identified. Evidence of staff supervision on personnel records. Individual and group programs and plans meet the needs and interests of clients. Ensure administration and data entry notes and updates daily. Data collection information and reports on performance and outcomes of client support is accurate, comprehensive and delivered within required timelines. Level of support in implementing and supporting systems that ensure support for clients to take account of their own care and spirituality within the mission of TSA. Positive feedback and supportive evidence is received from clients, staff and other stakeholders about program delivery. Page 2 of 5

3 DUTIES Staff and Volunteer Supervision and Development 1. Development of staff and volunteers through mentoring, coaching, training and empowering them to achieve the requirements of their role and TSA mission. 2. Demonstrate commitment to the TSA values and mission to foster an environment that values continuous improvement and innovation in the delivery of high quality person-centred services. EXPECTATIONS The on-going development and promotion of the Christian aspects of the service provision is evident. Timely recruitment, selection and appropriate induction of staff is in accordance with HR requirements. Suitably qualified and experienced staff recruited and oriented in a timely and efficient manner across all programs. Problems grievances and complaints effectively and efficiently managed. Evidence of skills development and assistance provided to employees and volunteers to meet their individual and team responsibilities. Staff clearly understands their roles and the performance outcomes required. The provision of appropriate advice to staff outside of hours when on-call as per a rotating roster. Appropriate training measures implemented and training conducted. Evidence of positive rapport with employees, volunteers and key stakeholders. Level of staff turnover, morale, complaints. Level of success with day to day and project related activities within appropriate timeframes. Hold regular staff meetings, team building and training forums. Ensure staff has access to professional supervision and debriefing. Evidence of a sound working knowledge of all relevant TSA policies and procedures relating to area of responsibility. TSA core values and behaviours demonstrated and modelled in all work related activities. Page 3 of 5

4 ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: 2-3+ years experience working in a community setting, particularly working with people with disabilities and knowledge of resources. Desirable that the successful applicants have an understanding of the issues faced by people experiencing disabilities. An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote, support and model the values and ethos of The Salvation Army and to facilitate pastoral support where required. Demonstrated experience in programs in the human service sector (Disability, Crisis, Community Service / Development) with a minimum Certificate IV qualification or agree to further studies. Demonstrated competence and record of achievement in the supervision of staff within a human service organisation. Ability to build effective outcomes based teams. An understanding of trends, practice and relevant legislation and able to apply these concepts in practical terms. Hold a current First Aid Certificate. Hold a current Drivers Licence A Blue Card with a Yellow Card Exemption To be on-call as per a rotating roster DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS WHS knowledge of work health safety obligations and to practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy & procedures and legislation. Professional development required to maintain skills for the role. The ability to offer prayer and explain the Christian Gospel. Tertiary of other qualifications within disability support, community services, social work or similar discipline and/or extensive experience would be highly desirable. SKILLS and Behaviours: Leads a dynamic team in implementing plans, policies and procedures and supports staff in the provision of problem solving, crisis intervention and ongoing professional development and conducting training as required for all staff. Effective and productive working relationship with other team leaders which contributes to the overall success of the service. Evidence of strong relationships with other team members, which assists in building a Page 4 of 5

5 cohesive workplace. Demonstrates on a continual basis, a commitment to assisting and supporting colleagues in all workplace activities. Attends a minimum of 90% of all meetings Available (as per roster) for on-call requirements Facilitate fortnightly team meetings and attend monthly Team Leader meetings We have carefully reviewed the Position Description and are satisfied that it fully and accurately describes the requirements of the position.
