3 NTA KEY COACHING PRINCIPLES & PHILOSOPHY We will deliver a world class elite athlete development program by; Defining an athletes reality through emphasising what they can do, rather than what they cannot! By acknowledging process/effort/continued improvement over results Providing feedback and strategies for overcoming setbacks and failure is an essential element in coaching to the NTA philosophy Teaching athletes to embrace challenges, to test themselves, that failure is a chance to learn and that their mindset is critical to whatever challenges they face Stressing the importance of learning and becoming students of triathlon Recognising that every performance is current and not connected to their future potential Ensuring National Talent Coaches have a clear understanding of the types of people they are trying to develop Establishing the needs of the individual NTA athletes against the template of an established elite triathlete Creating a clear picture of the end objective for athletes Demonstrating patience to allow athletes to learn at the point when it is relevant to them Ensuring the welfare of the athlete is paramount. This is to be delivered with an understanding of all of the competing interests of the athletes in the NTA (Family/School/Social). There is a clear unambiguous approach to program management of each individual NTA athlete through key communications between NTA Athletes AND the athletes home coaches. Utilising a clear a measure for advice and guidance i.e. the same message you would give to your own child!
