4 SERVICES Management of potentially contaminated land Our skills and expertise are based on extensive experience of managing potentially contaminated sites. The RSK approach centres on assessing contamination risks while controlling remediation costs. For these tasks, RSK uses the following tools and procedures: desk studies and legal and regulatory compliance environmental vulnerability studies investigations and assessments continuous supervision of site-based works drilling supervision and analysis of potential contaminants in soil samples installation of ground and surface water surveillance networks measurement of potential contaminants in soil gases quantification of site pollution off-site assessments detailed quantitative risk assessments options appraisal and ensuing site management plans comparative studies of remediation options cost benefit analyses residual risk analyses presentations of studies and projects to authorities and/or other stakeholders. Project management assistance for remediation and demolition Within the conception, management and organisation of remediation and demolition projects, RSK supports project ownership based on a site s current and/or end-use: preparation of consultation documents contractor selection continuous or ad hoc supervision of remediation continuous or ad hoc supervision of demolition resolution of works and deliverables. 4 RSK Environnement

5 Environmental impact assessment Development projects may be subject to environmental regulations (Code de l Environnement Articles L122-1 to L122-3 and R122-1 to R122-16) and therefore require an environmental impact assessment or other relevant information to be available. Such studies can cover a broad range of fields and necessitate the involvement of an equally wide range of specialists. 6 ICPE The management of a site that is subject to the Installation Classée pour la Protection de l Environnement (ICPE) regulations involves constant monitoring of regulatory development and the solutions available for managing environmental and health risks. RSK Environnement can help you throughout this process: ICPE registration, declarations and authorisations process declarations and authorisations relating to the water regulations regulatory conformance audits for health, safety and the environment monitoring of groundwater quality, treated water and waste water activity cessation assessments. Property valuation During property transactions, particularly when a change of use is expected, knowledge of a site s environmental condition is paramount for negotiation.
