The College of Science aims to conduct world-leading research in its areas of focus, working collaboratively with external partners from within industry, higher education and other sectors on a global scale. Academic recruitment within the College has been strategically focused on enhancing and increasing its research capacity, and the role of the College of Science Research Office (CoSRO) team is vital in supporting the College s rapidly expanding cohort of researchactive staff, their associated research projects and external income generation portfolio. This position is responsible for leading and developing existing and new research projects within the Lincoln Institute for Agri-Food Technology (LIAT) In order to deliver a knowledgeable and effective collaboration with research partners and a timely response to CoSRO. The role will include all aspects of project delivery, decision making, management and financial input. JOB PURPOS A leader in their field, the role holder will be responsible for the delivery of specific projects as delegated by the irector of LIAT and will fully support the irector of LIAT in the management, decision making and implementation of these project from inception to completion to the highest standard, to include all other associated aspects of the projects. Influence and lead liaisons with collaborative partners (internal and external) and also with their associated administrative organisations if appropriate. To line-manage the members of the Research Office team, including the Research Project Managers, Research Finance Manager and Research Officers. Manage and oversee the provision of high quality financial information to support the control of the project s budget and financial records and IP register. As well as making decisions and providing high level recommendations based on financial results and analysis which will affect the whole institution. Pursue active collaboration to secure additional funding and stakeholder involvement. Page 1 of 6

2 Work collaboratively and be the interface with the external funding bodies to ensure project milestones are met and appropriate action taken as necessary to vary or modify such milestones. Chair meetings and ensure delivery of standards and quality across all relevant projects. Remain fully informed on the production of legal documents and involved in any revisions thereto (i.e. consortium agreement revisions, side agreements with suppliers, etc.). To provide direct project management support to complex collaborative research projects and those with key industrial partnerships, as required. To establish and maintain close working relations with colleagues in the Research & nterprise Office in order to progress service excellence, notably via research development, income generation and diversification, contracts and IP. To provide direct support for the irector of LIAT in researching, writing and submitting funding bids to external funding bodies. Page 2 of 6

3 KY RSPONSIBILITIS Project Management and elivery Provide direct project management support to complex collaborative research projects and those with key industrial partnerships, as required. In conjunction with Research and nterprise, ensure that all research projects are correctly set up prior to project start, and that end-of-project actions and comprehensive reports are carried out as required by the funders. Maintain an in-depth knowledge of Research Council, Innovate UK and other key funding body regulations in conjunction with Research and nterprise. Assist in the delivery of agreed projects, maintaining excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to progress projects to conclusion. Project Planning Lead others in the delivery of the project, clarifying requirements, delegating work, setting objectives and supporting personnel involved in the project. Perform project management activities, planning, scheduling, monitoring and reporting on progress of research projects both verbally in scheduled meetings and in writing to support the CoSRO and delivery objectives. Income iversification evelop collaborations with colleagues in the central Research & nterprise Office, other UoL Colleges and in other HIs via ARMA links, in order to develop avenues for external funding post-brexit. Lead, from a College perspective, the development of funding opportunities and engagement with stl, including the University s involvement in the R-Cloud funding streams, engagement at Industry ays and subsequent collaborations between academic teams, ensuring Research and nterprise are kept fully informed. Liaison, Networking and Presentation Liaise with project members including academic and commercials leads in companies, and with external parties including associate partners and visiting researchers. Maintaining and promoting the public-facing activities of LIAT including the attendance at and delivery of presentations to conferences, meetings, seminars, exhibitions and promotional events. Research Outputs Lead in the production of high quality research outputs of national and international standing, of sufficient quality and quantity to submit to the Research xcellence Framework. 4 Supervision ngage in a limited amount of teaching as required and by agreement with the irector of LIAT. Aid in the supervision of postgraduate research students and the management of research assistants. In addition to the above, undertake such duties as may reasonably be requested and that are commensurate with the nature and grade of the post. AITIONAL INFORMATION Scope and dimensions of the role This role will require the postholder to effectively manage people, projects and processes. Team leadership skills, a pro-active approach and an in-depth knowledge of the Higher ducation research environment and funding landscape is required. The role will support the irector of Research, Research Leads, College xec, and the academic cohort to achieve the delivery of key research-related outcomes, both strategic and operational. As a key point of contact for staff and team members seeking advice on the management of research projects and processes within the College of Science, the post holder will be expected to be able to communicate effectively at all levels, possessing an in-depth knowledge of research funding both pre- and post-award. The post holder will lead on the development and management of the College of Science Research Office in order to provide the support required to meet the rapidly expanding needs of the College. Some travel and out of hours work will be required in order to facilitate effective networking both between campus sites and externally with partners, collaborating institutions, funding bodies etc. The role is key to the development and delivery of research support within the College Research Office, including mentoring of other colleagues, to support the delivery of the College s research and external income generation ambitions.
