1 Job Title Department Unit Grade 2 Salary Contract type Reporting to Responsible for Global Campaigns Manager Public Engagement Girls Rights and Youth team 46,425 per annum Permanent, full time (34.5 hours per week) Head of Girls Rights and Youth team Campaigns Officer, Youth for Change Project Manager & team Overview of Department This role sits within the Public Engagement Department of Plan International UK and more specifically the Girls Rights and Youth Team, which combines Global Campaigning, youth engagement and UK policy and programmes, to create a shift in thinking on girls rights and international development in the globally and in the UK and make a positive impact for girls rights. The Public Engagement department works to reach out to UK audiences to inform them about and gather support for Plan International UK s work to ultimately influence the achievement of positive impact in the lives of boys and girls around the world - and in particular on adolescent girls rights. In order to deliver this, the department combines a variety of tactics and areas of work such as fundraising, major partnerships, communications, campaigns, media relations, UK policy and practice and youth engagement. The Girls Rights and Youth Team is the leading voice for Plan International UK s current global girls rights campaign, Because I am a Girl and is a fast paced environment with a dynamic team and ambitious plans for the future. Youth engagement and youth voice are at the heart of the work we do and the reason we do it. Because I Am a Girl, aims to improve the lives of girls all over the world and safeguard their rights. It focuses on gender-based violence and discriminatory gender stereotypes as a root cause. The campaign strategy focuses on building a movement of supporters who can mobilise to support and express solidarity with youth-led advocacy initiatives from across the Plan federation. Job Purpose To lead Plan UK s priority Girls Rights campaign steering our work on campaigning, mobilisation and international youth advocacy and manage its cross-organisational implementation. To work proactively to identify opportunities to influence policy change alongside young people internationally and mobilise UK audiences strategically. To provide oversight and strategic support to one of Plan s most exciting global youth-led advocacy programmes in partnership with DFID Youth for Change. The programme works with youth advocates in the UK, Tanzania, and Bangladesh to fight gender-based violence. During the course of the next 12 months the Youth for Change network will be supported to influence decision-makers and to develop, test and evaluate a new outreach model.

2 Key Deliverables Lead strategy and manage the delivery of Plan UK s global campaign on girls rights Provide strategic oversight of Plan UK s international youth advocacy work including Youth for Change Key Activities Provide overall strategic direction for Plan International UK s Girls rights campaign including by identifying external opportunities for impact and innovative mobilisation tactics. Develop engaging campaign actions for UK and global audiences that can progress girls rights with tangible impact and grow Plan s supporter base and movement. Represent the organisation to media, partners, supporters and internally as a lead spokesperson on Plan UK s campaigns. Support the drafting, design and publication of campaign resources, communications and digital campaigns relevant to the Girls Rights Campaign. Ensure campaigns are impactful and are rooted in advocacy and policy work with young people and that campaign opportunities are maximised. Maintain a thorough understanding and interpretation of the external environment in which Plan campaigns. Have a strong commitment to continuing professional development and be up to date with current campaigning techniques, adjusting the strategic direction of the campaign as appropriate. Advise the Youth for Change global team and volunteers to strengthen national campaigns and advocacy plans, and peer to peer outreach activities. Ensure the delivery of the Youth for Change project and fulfilment of funder requirements. Drive forward plans for future funding for the project. Spot and respond to relevant opportunities and risks for Plan s youth advocacy, campaigns and engagement, advising on related maximisation and mitigation strategies as appropriate. Ensure all departments are accurately informed about projects being implemented and partnerships established Project management and cross-team integration Project Manage the delivery of the campaign across teams and departments, reporting on campaign impact and learnings to colleagues and senior management, and improving cross-team integration Work collaboratively across all departments to ensure that the girls rights campaigning activity and messaging is aligned with organisational priorities and objectives. Ensure all staff are well informed of campaign plans Reactive campaign action creation Initiate and manage the implementation of reactive and other policy change campaigning activities collaboratively with other Departments in Plan, ensuring activities meet objectives In partnership with UK Campaigns and Community Fundraising colleagues, maintain key partnerships and develop new ones. Instigate and manage new campaign partnerships, and actively manage and maximise current partnerships Assume responsibility for senior stakeholder management in partnerships Reporting Report on the impact of youth advocacy, campaigns and engagement activities, ensuring processes for reporting are efficient and effective; apply learning to drive efficiencies and future

3 performance Monitor and evaluate all campaigning activities and provide regular campaign updates to the organisation Line Management Manage the Campaigns Officer, the Youth for Change Project Manager and oversee the work of their direct reports Contribute to the Girls Rights and Youth team overall strategy processes, team management and coordination, when necessary. Other Responsibilities Creation of fundraising proposals for strategic activities Help set and manage a delegated Campaigns budget. Work to support the Public Engagement Department s digital strategic oversight Keep up to date with public policy developments related to campaign priority areas, including international girls rights Contribute to the development of Plan s advocacy, campaigns, communications and wider supporter journey work. Attend and contribute to team, departmental and interdepartmental meetings and working groups as applicable Represent Plan at meetings and other events as required Maintain a high standard of continuing professional development and ensure Plan is at the forefront of international youth engagement, girls rights and campaigning General Ensure that all activities undertaken on behalf of Plan International UK, externally or internally, are in line with the overall aims of the organisation and with policies and procedures. Participate in training and other activities as requested Awareness and Representation Commitment to Plan s position on promoting girls rights and gender equality, and integrating this into all aspects of work.
