3 Standardization in and for Conformity assessment The importance of standardization inconformity assessment is often not considered seriously. We never include participation in the standardization process in our strategic goals. We do not even consider that our strive to meet our client s needs, requires us to comply with an agreed standard. This presentation will highlight why we are using standards, and how we could influence standards, to ensure our laboratories and certification bodies remain relevant.

4 Why we need standards Remove barriers to trade compatibility interoperate ability safety quality

5 Why the laboratory needs standards repeatability, removing variables, ensuring conformity within the service provided, obtaining accreditation, able to provide relevant training, able to participate and compete in the market, globalization and innovation
