Lead and coordinate staff development, innovation and the sharing of research-informed academic practice for technology-supported learning and teaching. Lead, teach and supervise on formal staff development programmes. As a senior member of the Departmental team, you will work with a high degree of autonomy and develop close working relationships with key stakeholders across the University, providing an expert opinion to inform and implement the University s Learning, Teaching and Assessment and other associated strategies.

2 Proactively develop successful partnerships with external agencies, professional establishments and professionals in order to engage in collaborative work, generate income, and enhance the reputation of the University. Key Tasks Leadership & Management Represent and deputise for the Head of Department as and when required. Participate effectively as a member of the senior team, challenging and influencing others when necessary to embed learning and research technologies into the development of Departmental, Service and University priorities and incorporate their relevance into strategic planning. As the Universities expert in Learning and Research Technologies you will provide leadership to colleagues within relevant work areas, co-ordinating and agreeing the work plans of others so that objectives are achieved; act to resolve conflicts within and across teams and work to develop effective working relationships, internally and externally. Assist the Head of Department in the professional development and review (PDR) of staff within the department; support the development and performance of staff through setting objectives, coaching and providing timely and constructive feedback to ensure the continuous improvement of departmental performance. Participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff, as required, and act as a mentor for new staff, offering appropriate advice, academic guidance and induction on the skills, processes, systems and activities that are specific to the department. Provide line management to individual or groups of staff as requested by the Head of Department; authorise leave and manage absence as appropriate. Learning & Teaching Support Regularly design, teach and lead specialist Units on formal staff development programmes, such as the taught PG Certificate and Masters in Academic Practice. Develop quality assurance procedures and deliver curriculum enhancement to ensure that University standards are upheld and take responsibility to ensure that the portfolio and assessment procedures remain current and relevant. Supervise the work of taught postgraduate and/or research students, as required, to support the development of students research skills.

3 Lead the development of staff development workshops focused on key agendas associated with technology-supported learning, teaching and assessment and associated pedagogic research. Co-ordinate the work of the Learning Innovation team to ensure academic colleagues receive excellent pedagogic and technical advice on the use of technology to enhance their learning, teaching and assessment activities. Research & Knowledge xchange Use initiative, creativity and judgement in the development of research proposals and/or enterprise bids to secure research funding and/or generate additional income for the University as appropriate; write and publish results of research, act as a referee and contribute to peer assessment for appropriate journals. Take a lead role in developing new, innovative objectives and methodologies for research and enterprise projects that meet funding criteria, support departmental strategy and further scholarly activity in the area. Adopt an action-research approach in leading, influencing and supporting appropriate Universitywide technology-supported learning, teaching and assessment projects in liaison with faculty and professional services colleagues. Research, interpret and analyse complex data using a variety of systems, provide expert advise on, and implement appropriate actions to enhance the quality of the University s technology-enhanced learning provision. xternal ngagement Attend relevant meetings and boards in order to advise on and input to strategic matters, planning activities and decision making; take a lead role in departmental strategic decision-making on specific issues such as staff and curriculum development for technology-enhanced learning, teaching and assessment. Act as the Universities representative on relevant forums such as the UK Heads of -Learning Forum and be an active participant in external working groups covering topics such as electronic assessment, online learning and learner analytics. Develop appropriate publicity/marketing materials and liaise with the marketing team to raise the profile of the area of work locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, in line with departmental strategy. Maintain professionally up to date by proactively seeking out new initiatives and share information through appropriate means with colleagues and the team.

4 Special Features The post holder will be expected to be flexible in their remits and to identify and lead on new areas of activity. The work of the post-holder will be determined through a process of prioritisation annually. Miscellaneous You will ensure that appropriate management systems and procedures are in place to meet your health and safety duties and responsibilities contained within the University s health and safety policy. In particular you will ensure that appropriate risk assessments are carried out in respect of significant hazards and that safety inspections are undertaken on at least an annual cycle in each workplace under your control. You are responsible for applying the University s qual Opportunities Policy in your own area of responsibility and in your general conduct. You have a responsibility to promote high levels of customer care within your own areas of work. You are expected to co-operate with the PDR process, engaging in the setting of objectives in order to assist in the monitoring of performance and the development of the individual. You will assess the training and development needs of each member of staff under your control to ensure they are adequately supported in relation to their work responsibilities. Such other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be assigned by the Manager in agreement with you. Such agreement should not be unreasonably withheld. You may be required to undertake a specific Health & Safety role, commensurate with your grade, to support the University in meeting its statutory Health & Safety obligations. This could include acting as a DS Assessor, First Aider, Fire Marshall or Departmental Safety Co-ordinator. The allocation of such roles will be subject to the provision of appropriate training and assessment of competence. You may, with reasonable notice, be required to work at any of the Manchester Metropolitan University sites. You are responsible for assessing and managing risk for all elements of work within your own area/team and for ensuring effective risk management processes are in place.
