2 Launched in 1996 Approx. 9,000 applications and 3,500 awards Criteria based on the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program The mission of the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award program is to promote and support the application of continuous quality improvement in AHCA/NCAL member organizations 2

Bronze Commitment to Quality (5 pages) 2. Silver Achievement in Quality (20 pages) 3. Gold Excellence in Quality (55 pages) 3

5 5-page application that addresses 20 questions (criteria) Criteria are straight-forward questions Many can be addressed in 2-3 sentences There are no trick questions Responses to the criteria are evaluated on a simple met/not met basis; Examiners do not use a list of right answers All applicants receive a feedback report identifying which criteria were met and not met (and the reasons why) 5

6 The Bronze Application is most importantly a statement of priorities Key = Most Important You may have a clear picture of what s most important (key), but others in the center may not This comprehensive understanding creates an unwavering focus on key performance requirements and results 6

7 20 page application Overall concept across 7 categories A team of 3-4 Examiners review each application Examiners determine applicants ability to meet criteria and established scoring guidelines Applicants receive feedback in each section of the criteria 7

8 Silver award recipients show that they have established effective systems and are achieving results at a level where they are most likely to keep moving forward on their quality journey, rather than sliding back Not about perfection!!! The Silver award builds on the foundation and priorities established in Bronze Applicants design and implement basic systems necessary for continuous quality improvement and overall quality These fundamental systems will be expanded into greater detail in addressing the gold criteria 8

9 55-page application Responsive to full Baldrige Criteria; builds upon Silver criteria Examiners determine applicants ability to meet criteria and established scoring guidelines (same as Silver) 9

10 Applicants are expected to meet a higher scoring threshold than Silver Applicants in consideration for the Award receive a Site Visit by a team of Examiners Applicants receive feedback in each section of the criteria Recipients are recognized as some of the best performers in long term care 10

11 The Gold criteria requires fully developed systems that involve cycle of learning for improvement and full integration of all components in the center These systems work toward recognized and broadly understood objectives and goals of quality These systems drive understood, measured and improving levels of performance 11

15 Member of AHCA/NCAL No substandard quality of care or immediate jeopardy on any surveys within the last three years ( ) or leading up to award notification in 2014 Applicants with multi-levels of care apply for the entire organization or a distinct part of the organization, but must be consistent Participate in an educational program Deadline: November 14, 2013 at 8 pm EST Not mandatory Benefits: Overall application fee is reduced by $200; and Regular communications from Quality Award staff 15
