About SA2020 & SA2020 Partners SA2020 began as a community vision, created by thousands of San Antonians in Today, the vision continues as the playbook by which SA2020, the nonprofit organization, operates. SA2020 tracks progress toward San Antonio s collective vision, informs and activates the public, and aligns efforts toward our shared goals across the 11 priority Cause Areas. Requirements to be an SA2020 Nonprofit Partner: Primarily serve residents of the City of San Antonio or Bexar County; Demonstrate a connection to one or more SA2020 Community Results; Share updates annually on organizational impact; Illustrate preliminary work to document organizational outcomes; and, Commit to disaggregating data in order to strengthen impact or adopt a plan to do so. When Partners strengthen and better communicate their impact, SA2020 is able to coordinate and align their efforts, even across sectors. This alignment is essential because Community Results cannot be achieved by one organization working alone. By coordinating and aligning the work of our Partners and tracking progress towards shared goals, SA2020 is uniquely positioned to see the current landscape of work and identify what interrelated actions sustained over time could produce whole systems-change. We, therefore, also identify and convene partners around complex community challenges, fostering collaboration and further strengthening a continuum of services. Our partnerships are built on several core principles: We share the same vision for San Antonio as defined by the community. We agree to work collaboratively and focus on SA2020 Community Results. We acknowledge that our organizational outcomes are only as powerful as the impact they provide to the community at large. We understand the importance of performance measures ultimately as a means to track our stated results. We practice regular peer-exchange and learning, as well as continuous improvement and evaluation. 2

3 We ascribe to a strategy grounded in cross sector partnerships and systems change framework. See more about this in SA2020's Theory of Change. An important step in this process is identifying and articulating the outcomes of your organization's work. SA2020 defines outcomes as changes that have taken place because of your organization or program(s). They are the changes, benefits, learning or other effects that happen as a result of your work. Typically defined through short-term (learning), mid-term (actions), and long-term (conditions). 6

7 Short-Term/Immediate Outcome = a shift in learning (change in knowledge, skills, attitude, motivation, and/or awareness). More frequently evaluated and easier to show results than long-term impacts because they may be captured at the conclusion of the program/initiative when most evaluations are conducted. Short-term outcomes should be attainable within 1-3 years. Intermediate Outcome = a shift in action (change in behaviors, practices, policies, and/or procedures). Intermediate outcomes should be attainable within 4-6 years. Long-term/could be Ultimate Outcome or Impact = a shift in conditions (change in environment, social conditions, economic conditions, and/or political conditions). Longterm outcomes should be attainable within 7-10 years. Having the outcomes of your work identified and articulated will help you describe how your organization moves the needle toward achieving Community Results. It can also help your organization identify what you should be tracking and evaluating to best fulfill your mission and achieve these outcomes, the desired impact of your work. 35.
