2 2 Quality Management System Quality Management System 3 KEM Quality Policy The best possible quality is our top business objective. Its level is always being redefined. Aside from our competitive environment and potential customers, this is mainly driven by our existing customers with their increasingly strict requirements and by our employees. They are continuously and effectively questioning, re-viewing, and improving quality at KEM. Our understanding of customer needs and satisfying them to perfection ensures that we are always tightening up our own quality standards. Both customer requirements and the high demands we place on ourselves form the key pillars of our quality policy. Quality, Environment and Occupational Health and Safety Management System Customers + Prospects Requirements: Quality Enviroment Occupational health and safety Quality management Management of the means Responsibility of management Products Processes Services A QM Manual according to ISO 9001:2015 forms the normative basis of our quality management system. Full transparency for all employees in conjunction with clear specifications and comprehensible descriptions of processes and procedures in our company form the basis for consistently high quality. We have consistently integrated environmental protection and occupational health and safety with quality management to create an integrated management system. It is based on three overriding guiding principles. KEM guiding principle Quality KEM quality is based on the all-encompassing, consistent, and responsible action of each KEM employee in order to jointly exceed the expectations of our business partners. Measurement, Analysis and Improvement We develop, manufacture, and distribute reliable, durable, technically sophisticated measuring equipment of high quality worldwide. We provide our customers with competent advice and actively assist them in all measurement technology matters. We also view the business relationship with our customers as a long-term partner-ship. Thus the KEM quality policy is aimed at achieving the full satisfaction of our customers. Statisfaction/ Compliance: Product requirements Market requirements General conditions Products/ Services Customers + Prospects KEM guiding principle Environmental Protection KEM is committed to sustainable environmental protection. We put this into practice by ensuring that every KEM employee uses all resources along the value chain carefully and sparingly even beyond the require-ments of legal regulations. KEM develops, manufactures, and produces its products with the goal of impacting the environment as little as possible and not endangering people. KEM guiding principle Occupational Health and Safety Occupational health and safety at KEM is based on the active participation of all KEM employees. Identifying hazards in a timely manner, assessing them, and implementing uncompromising measures helps prevent accidents and maintain the health of our employees and visitors. Health and safety always come first. QM System Processes and Procedures* Work Instructions Test Instructions* * Also applies for QM Manual DAkkS calibration laboratory. KEM QM System Our processes and procedures are subject to regular reviews and continuous improvement now and in the future. This results in the following measures, approaches, and objectives: Optimum quality in all processes and workflows to ensure the flawless functionality of the delivered products Short delivery times and on-time delivery Flexibility, which means taking individual customer wishes into account in design and manufacturing Intensive customer support, competent service, and advice on all measuring technology matters High innovativeness in the areas of product development and production technology Joint assessment of potential occupational health and safety hazards by the safety officer, employees, superiors, and company physician Development and design of new processes according to ergonomic considerations jointly with the employees Active encouragement of regular participation in first aid courses during working hours in our operating establishments Supporting the healing process of our employees and gradually introducing tasks in the course of reintegration True sustainability through recalibration and further use services for measuring equipment, some of which is used for decades Low waste, durable products, and the greatest possible conservation of resources thanks to optimized production processes and the use of highly modern technology Setup of systematic energy management according to DIN EN ISO as proof of efficient energy use Consequently we place the greatest emphasis on modern development, production, and test equipment, and continuously invest considerable resources into its maintenance and replacement. Above all however it is our employees who maintain the high level of quality. People make quality happen through responsible action. That is why KEM counts on well educated, trained personnel and on regular continuing education. Every employee actively participates in the improvement and new development of equipment and processes. This is expressly desired by company management, and is correspondingly further established and encouraged. Our company s innovativeness is positively reflected in the number and quality of the patents and utility model applications of recent years. Short chains of command and direct communication between the employees themselves and with company management are the prerequisites for fruitful collaboration. The integrated management system is a leading tool for KEM in order to realize the further development and adaptation of the organization and processes to changing market requirements and general conditions. We aim to strengthen specific organization units within the company to the extent that they operate more efficiently and successfully than comparable specialists in the respective field. This means for example: Sales must be more competent, efficient, and successful than distributors or pure sales organizations. Development must be more innovative and creative than engineering offices or research institutions. Production and assembly must be more efficient, costeffective, and flexible than pure job order manufacturers. Only by repeatedly reviewing and improving the efficiency of all company departments will we be able to continue operating successfully in the market for flow measuring technology both nationally and globally. Through successful cooperation with our customers, we want to realize substantial and above average growth and profitability. We simultaneously strive to continue establishing ourselves as a long-term, innovative, and reliable partner for all measuring technology matters. Markus Rauch Managing Director Karlsfeld, Germany, 15 November 2017

3 4 Quality Management System Quality Management System 5 Company Profile Calibration and Inspection Systems Dipl.-Ing. Karl Küppers founded KEM in He initially developed turbine flow meters with analogue and digital evaluation electronics. Gearwheel flow meters followed and differential pressure transmitters as well as friction ring-free torquemeters were also part of the delivery programme in the 70s. In the further course of the company s history, the product range was expanded with spindle flow meters and lightweight paint measuring cells that became the standard for paint-spray lines in the automobile industry. Static flow measurement technology in the form of Coriolis mass flow meters constitutes the latest addition to the measuring technology portfolio. KEM has two locations in Germany. The headquarters in Karlsfeld near Munich is home to Development, Design, Sales and Administration. It has 26 employees. Production was relocated to Bad Kötzting in 2010 and the move to a new office building was completed. The KEM production facility founded in 1970 was entirely rebuilt in 2010 and is located in Bad Kötzting in the Upper Palatinate. With 58 employees, the plant is responsible for all aspects of production. The modern new building has 3,900 square metres of production space. Headquarters (Karlsfeld) Calibration is the professional method for obtaining precise and correct information about the accuracy of measuring equipment. As a flow meter manufacturer, we prepare individual calibration certificates with measurements that are traceable to national measurement standards for all measuring equipment. In keeping with our quality standards, we calibrate all equipment individually according to customer requirements. Calibration is performed on our gravimetric or volumetric test stands. The gravimetric calibration stand is the heart of our DAkkS calibration laboratory D-K The laboratory is accredited by DAkkS, Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle GmbH, according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005. DAkkS Calibration Laboratory Material throughput and flow rate from to 2,000 l/min Accredited according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005 Viscosity up to 100 mm²/s KEM Test Stands for Liquids Flow rate 0.01 to l/min Viscosity up to 3,000 mm²/s KEM makes significant investments in production and inspection equipment every year. Flexible design and precise fabrication are supported by the following equipment among others: 3D CAD systems 6 NC turning centres 6 CNC processing centres with automatic tool changers Modern development workstations for microprocessorcontrolled flow rate evaluation systems Calibration stands for flow meters were developed and built over time as well. KEM has been operating a calibration stand since It is linked to the German calibration service DAkkS and was accredited by the PTB. This test stand was moved from Karlsfeld to Bad Kötzting at the beginning of Manufacturing center (Bad Kötzting) DAkkS Calibration Laboratory Our representative office in China opened in It has 7 employees today. KEM Flowtechnology based in Beijing was founded in 2014 in order to further strengthen our presence in China. Our brand new office in Singapore was opened in March of 2016, constituting another milestone for our expansion in Asia. KEM generated sales of EUR 8.9 million in 2010 with an export quota of 62% in a total of 40 countries. By 2015 we were able to nearly double our sales to EUR 15.8 million. The export quota increased to 67%. Our markets encompass a wide variety of sectors around the world including the automobile, polyurethane, steel, food, chemicals, petrochemicals and pharmaceuticals industries.
